STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON TURF CLUB FRIDAY 8 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – OVERCASTTRACK RATING – SOFT (5)RAIL – +4.5M PENETROMETER – 5.56 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – S. Larkins, H Gillett & S StehbensClerk of Scales – E Suli SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT ROCKHAMPTON – 16/02/2024 RACE 6 – CLASS 3 PLATE – STREET GLORY Trainer J Wigginton reported to stewards that the mare had undergone surgery at Gatton UQ Veterinary last week due to a collapsed larynx. Trainer Wigginton further added that the surgery was successful and STREET GLORY was now spelling for an undetermined period of time. Documentation was provided by trainer Wigginton to confirm the injury and surgery. RACE 8 – 0-55 HCP – CHILL OUT MISS Apprentice L O’Donnell was charged under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip 8 times prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted and was fined $300. ROCKHAMPTON – 24/2/24 – RACE 3 – BM62 HCP – BEYOND STAR Trainer N Walsh reported to stewards that after the disappointing performance, BEYOND STAR has now left his stable. THANGOOL – 26/2/24 – RACE 4 – BM55 HCP – DEELOSH Trainer G Bell confirmed to stewards’ that DEELOSH has now been spelled after its disappointing performance. GENERAL The following weight variances were approved; Race 2. LANOVA – C. Whiteley +1kgRace 3. WHATJEUDOIN’ – J Stanley +0.5kgRace 4. LYNRIC LASS – A Layt +1kgRace 6. CROAGH PATRICK – J. Huxtable +1kg Stewards accepted the reasons for trainer S Kendrick late rider declaration for TOUR DE FIELD as there was no available rider at the time. Race 1: TAB QTIS 2YO MDN HCP - 1100M WELL HELD – Jumped outwards at the start hampering MISHANI AMORE. Inclined to overrace near the 900m when jockey J Stanley was restraining for cover. Bumped leaving 400m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J. Stanley advised that the gelding travelled well during the early stages, however raced flat when he asked for an effort and only finished the race off moderately. Jockey Stanley further added that the gelding may have come to an ended of its preparation. Trainer C. Taylor advised that the gelding has seemingly pulled up well however will continue to monitor the recover and assess the ambidentate racing plans over the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. MISHANI I AM – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. MISHANI WOLF – Slow to begin. BOOGIE FEVER – Knuckled at the start. Raced ungenerously during the middle stages. ELECTRIC BRAE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room until near the 400m and then shifted outwards to improve and bumped with WELL HELD. MIMMY'S SECRET – Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure down the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was displaying mild symptoms of shin soreness. Trainer K. Miller advised that the filly will now be going for a spell. TRAVELLING SWEET – Began awkwardly. MISHANI AMORE – Began awkwardly and was hampered soon after the start. Race 2: ALLENSTOWN UPHOLSTERY SERVICE CLASS 2 HCP - 1200M DOUBTING EYE – Raced wide in the early stages. GILBERT'S GOLD – Over raced in the early stages. LANOVA – Slow to begin. Race 3: MP SECURITY BM60 HCP - 1600M DEVIL KICK – Slow to begin. ROY'S ROAD – Raced keenly through the event. Jockey L Tilley advised that after enduring a good run-in transit the mare failed to extended when pressured in the home straight. When questioned on today’s performance trainer Z Hohn stated that whilst not overly disappointed in the mare, she was still expecting a better showing given the favourable run that ROY’S ROAD had and would now look to space the mares runs further apart. Jockey L Tilley was reprimanded under the pursuant of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BM 65 HANDICAP - 1400M SRINI – Slow to begin and pulled hard in the early stages. When queried in the relation of the performance jockey R Wiggins advised that the gelding travelled strongly however due to the moderate tempo when asked to improve leaving the 400m SRINI was flat footed for some distance and battled fairly to the finish. The rider further added that SRINI is much better suited when the tempo of races in genuine. MAJESTICS REQUEST – Connections advised that they would attempt to ride the gelding conservatively, as in its most recent starts MAJESTICS REQUEST has not finished it’s races off as expected. Ridden accordingly. When queried in the relation of the performance jockey A Butler advised after settling towards the rear the tempo of the race was very moderate and the gelding travelled well, however when the speed of the race quickened inside of the final 400m his mount was flat footed and battled relatively well over the concluding stages. The rider further added that had SIRNI progressed wider prior to the 400m this would have availed him of an opportunity to improve into the race earlier than what occurred. After considering the statement of the rider, the manner in which the race was run and the available replays the stewards could not be satisfied that the actions of Mr Butler were unreasonable in the circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Jockey Butler was advised to ensure he rides his mounts fully to the finish, in adopting this approach stewards could not be satisfied that his lack of action had affected his position in the race. DESERT MOON – Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KELLERS SHELTER – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Race 5: $600,000 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CARNIVAL QTIS 3YO MDN HCP - 1100M Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1000m, where BIKER and ME TIME bumped heavily and checked. After considering the evidence from riders A Layt (ME TIME), C Lennon (BIKER), W Satherley (BEGGAR’ S BANQUET), J Huxtable (THE CRANOCH) and L Tilley (HEDON’TWANTME) and the available replays it was established that THE CRANOCH shifted in and away from HEDON’TWANTME which tightened BEGGAR’S BANQUET, who in turn tightened ME TIME which shifted in and contacted BIKER. Stewards could not be satisfied that any horse or rider could be fully attributed blame and therefore took the matter no further other than to advise all riders to ensure they avail sufficient room to allow for margins of error. BEGGAR'S BANQUET – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers and was cleared to start. THE CRANOCH – Fractious in the barriers. Tightened near the 1000m. ANDYORSE – Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin. BIKER – Tightened and checked near the 1000m. MIDTHUNDER – Hung out severely under pressure over the concluding stages. Trainer S Green was advised that the gelding now has a warning placed on it for hanging out. Noted that the rider dropped her whip near the 100m. JERIDAH – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure. Jockey G Cartwright was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. ME TIME – Tightened near the 1000m. CERARED – A Sewell reported that he did not intend to lead in such a fast tempo, however the filly over raced significantly and then failed to finish off over the final 200m. After the running of this race, J. Huxtable reported to stewards’ of soreness to his ribs. J. Huxtable was assessed by QAS officials and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. Race 6: BROWN BROTHERS QTIS MDN HCP - 1300M MASONRY MAN – Raced wide throughout. FULMEN (IRE) – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance trainer C Taylor advised that in his opinion the gelding had been working well and altered the training regime which included some work at the beach and with the conservative ride from jockey J Stanley, he was not surprised with the result as he was expecting a good performance. ISLE EIGHT – As the start was affected, attempted to turn its head into the adjoining stall and missed the start considerably. TOUR DE FIELD – Raced wide through the early stages before obtaining cover near 700m. Jockey L Tilley reported that after receiving a tough wide run the gelding failed to run on. BOLD ROUGE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running till the 200m. TWO OF US – Jockey C Whiteley advised when queried regarding the performance that the filly over raced in the early and middle stages, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on the horse finishing efforts. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BANKONAJET – Slow into stride. Held up for clear running until the 250m. READY TO GROOVE – Jumped awkwardly and threw its head in the air. Near the 200m became awkwardly placed on the heels of TWO OF US. DAUNTING LADY – Pulled hard in the middle stages. Race 7: ROCKY SIGHT AND SOUND BM65 HCP - 1050M FAY FAYE – Shifted in rounding the first turn when insufficiently clear of DRAGONS’S SNIP. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice Y Lewis stated that she could offer no explanation for the performance but did suggest that her mount was inclined to hang in during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K Smyth undertook to report back on the condition of FAY FAYE in the days subsequent. RUBUNKAR – Raced in tight confines for some distance between the 800m and the 600m. SANTORINI SUMMER – Slow to begin. Jockey A Layt reported that upon pulling up he felt the gelding may have been sore behind. A post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted due to the horse having left the course. Trainer A Jones reported that SANTORINI SUMMER had pulled up well and would continue with the preparation and would advised stewards’ if anything becomes apparent with SANTORNI SUMMER in the coming days. BENCOOLEN – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight. DRAGON'S SNIP – Severely checked near the 900m when crossed by FAY FAYE and that runner was insufficiently clear. Apprentice Y Lewis pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) for careless riding, in that when crossing DRAGON’S SNIP she was not sufficiently, which resulted in that runner being severely checked. The license to ride in races of Ms Lewis was suspended for 14 days. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the riders guilty plea, her prior offence record, the Careless Riding Penalty Guidelines and the degree of culpability which was deemed to be mid-range. The suspension was ordered to commence midnight the 9th March 2024 and conclude midnight the 23rd March 2024. Ms Lewis was advised of her rights to appeal. FIGHT IN THE DOG – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages. MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Began awkwardly. BEST SONG – Near the 850m had to be restrained when racing tight to the inside of RUBUNKAR, which in turn had FAY FAYE racing tight to its outside. Restrained from heels for a distance approaching the home turn. After the running of this race jockey W.
