QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB ROCKHAMPTON SUNDAY 30TH JUNE 2024 WEATHER – OVERCASTTRACK RATING – HVY 8 RAIL – +0.5m ENTIREPENETROMETER – 6.14 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – S. Larkins, E. Suli, H. Gillett, S. Stehbens and G. Wust SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Rockhampton 15/06/2024 - Race 2: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1300 M Nick Walsh – Stewards have completed their analysis of betting activity surrounding FINE SHOT prior to the scratching of stablemates HELL and SAILORS’ RUM. The betting reports of Wagering Service Providers disclosed nothing of concern and in particular there was no evidence that any party in connection, either directly or indirectly, with FINE SHOT, HELL or SAILORS’ RUM, had placed any bets of note which would result in the price fluctuations that occurred. Stewards could not be satisfied with the information available that there was anything nefarious in relation to the betting activity that occurred on this occasion. GENERAL Due to the late acceptance time for the meeting and transferred races from the abandoned Rockhampton meeting on 28/09/24 stewards extended leniency to licensees in relation to late scratchings of dual acceptors and late rider declarations. Stewards approved late rider changes as per the race day summary. Due to delays with jockey R. Stewart’s flight and unable to make race 1 stewards approved jockey C. McIver as the replacement rider. Race 6: GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1050 metres PARADE GROUND – Approaching the 400m shifted inwards off the heels MISS DURIAN which shifted outwards. Apprentice M Castle (MISS DURIAN) was reminded of her obligations to ensure she is clear of other runners when shifting ground. Disappointed for a run for the majority of the home straight. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted over the final 600m jockey A. Butler stated his instructions were to have PARADE GROUND where comfortable in the run and after jumping well but not mustering early speed he elected to keep PARADE GROUND on the inside until entering the home straight where he positioned himself one off the rail in an attempt to track SEISME into the race. However, when PRETTY SLICK (R. WIGGINS) improved into a run he had anticipated taking and after being inconvenienced when MISS DURIAN (M. Castle) shifted out, he immediately elected to shift to the inside of that runner which then placed him in a position where it proved difficult to obtain clear running until the concluding stages. Jockey Butler further added that after discussions with connections prior to the race it was their view that the inside portion of the track was the best going and therefore he was mindful of that when making decisions in the home straight. Jockey Butler further advised that when he initially shifted away from the inside entering the home straight, he was of the view that an opportunity to obtain clear running would eventuate, however due to movement of other runners, this did not occur resulting in his decision to continue to look for runs available to the inside. When assessing the explanation tendered by jockey Butler, stewards acting on their own observations, positioning and movement of other runners, stewards could not be satisfied that the decisions of jockey Butler were unreasonable in the circumstances. PRETTY SLICK – Held up for clear running until a point near the 350m. DRAGON'S SNIP – Jumped inwards at the start bumping JE SUIS FABULEUX. SUPER FAST – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room until a point approaching 150m when switching out across the heels of FASTCONI. When questioned in relation to the performance of the mare jockey J. Stanley stated that after beginning awkwardly and buffeted after the start he was unable to obtain a position near the lead which was the intention, he also stated that the mare failed to travel as well as it normally would and felt flat throughout the event. Jockey Stanley further added that when looking to improve into a run between FASTCONI and LETMELETGO his mount failed to respond in a manner that would enable him to push into that run. Jockey Stanley further stated that as a result of this decision to switch to the outside of FASTCONI to be in clear running, and whilst he was satisfied with how HONKYTONK DIVA finished off the race as he was of the belief that the horses in front of him had peaked on their run and were coming back to the field which may have flattered his mares performance.
