QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 RAIL – out 5.5m entire PENETROMETER – 5.76 OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S LarkinsStewards – E Suli, S Stehbens, G Wust GENERAL Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Stewards extended leniency to trainers for the late declaration of riders due to a minimal number of riders competing at the meeting. Due to apprentice Z Sprie not attending the meeting due to personal reasons, rider changes were approved as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Trainer Alan Jones was reprimanded under LR36(6) for failing to scratch dually accepted SANTORINI SUMMER from race five by the prescribed time. When considering penalty, stewards were mindful that the failure of the trainer did not result in any other runner being denied an opportunity to start and the trainer’s clear record. Race 1: CARLY-MAE PYE MEMORIAL QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M The start of this race was delayed slightly whilst waiting for Newcastle race two which was running behind schedule. SOGOYA – Rider A Sewell reported that his mount raced in a more forward position than he intended too, as SOGOYA begun better than it has in recent starts. GOTTA HERO – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. When questioned on the performance of his mount, rider R Silvera Olivera advised that after beginning only fairly he elected to take hold and not pressure his mount to advance forward. The rider further added that the gelding initially raced ungenerously before settling towards the rear and battled only moderately over the final stages. Trainer N Vagg advised that he was disappointed with the performance of GOTTA HERO however did note that the gelding may have had its tongue over the bit upon return to scale and he would look to implement a gear change to rectify this matter. A post-race veterinary examination failed reveal any apparent abnormalities. AMBERINGER – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear racing room until near the 250m. Rider J Murphy reported that his mount was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure over the final 250m. Race 2: ROCKHAMPTON VOLKSWAGEN CLASS 6 PLATE 1200M DOUBTING EYE – Was checked immediately after the start when JUNGLE BEAT shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey A Butler reported that after suffering interference at the start, his mount settled toward the rear and was then impeded for an inside run entering the home straight. The rider further stated that he felt the gelding may have been showing signs of soreness in front. Trainer J Morgan advised that he may look to give DOUBTING EYE a spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. SHAMEDY – Checked soon after the start when JUNGLE BEAT shifted outwards and forced DOUBTING EYE outwards. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. JUNGLE BEAT – Jumped outwards sharply at the start impeding other runners, despite the efforts of the rider. BUSH DIAMOND – Stewards acceded to the request of trainer C Taylor to have senior rider W D’Avila replace apprentice Z Sprie. Jumped inwards at the start. Shifted wider to obtain clear running near the 400m. SPIRIT OF GIVING – Laid in under pressure over the final 250m. Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN OPEN HANDICAP 1400M LETMELETGO – Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. BERING SEA – Laid in under pressure down the home straight. DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) – Slow to begin. Race 4: PHIL PEEL JEWELLER MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M FRACTIONAL – Began awkwardly. ICONIC PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Jockey T Chambers pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on 11 occasions prior to the 100m, 6 more than permitted. The license to ride in races of Jockey Chambers was suspended for 9 days to commence midnight 19 October 2024 and conclude midnight 28 October 2024. GENERAL HIPPO – Raced wide throughout. When queried on the performance, jockey A Butler explained that after drawing wide, he rode in the initial stages with the intention to take a forward position however when READY TO GROVE improved to his inside near the 1100m he then looked to take restraint with a view of obtaining a position to trail KENDYACATCHME, but that position become unavailable when SEND THE MONEY closed the available gap. Jockey Butler advised as a consequence of racing wide throughout this had a significant detrimental effect on his mounts chances and when GENERAL HIPPO gave ground over the final 300m he elected to not apply further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. KENDYACATCHME – R Olivera Slivera was approved as the late declared rider for the gelding. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. SHEKINAH – Declared a late scratching at 11.10am due to no available rider. HADMYTIME – Declared a late scratching at 11.10am due to no available rider. READY TO GROOVE – Began awkwardly. Hung out over the concluding stages. SEND THE MONEY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: TAB BM60 HANDICAP 1400M CALIFORNIAN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to a rearward position closer to the rail. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. LUVIN' OUR GRACE – Worked forward wide on the track to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1050m. ALEACO – Held up for clear run for the majority of the home straight. MAGIC GAME – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. ROSE OF TAORMINA – Began awkwardly. Near the 150m tightened for a few strides when racing to the inside of ALEACO which shifted inwards. Jockey J Murphy (ALEACO) was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. D'ESPRIT – Declared a late scratching at 11.10am due to no available rider close to the allotted weight. ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure at various stages in the home straight. OUR HEART THROB – Slow to begin. Race 6: ST PETER’S BIRDCAGE BM55 HANDICAP 1050M PRETTY SLICK – Raced wide early. GILBERT'S GOLD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Rider J Murphy stated that after beginning poorly and the solid tempo in the early stages, he was unable to obtain a position close to the rail which had a detrimental effect on his mounts capability to finish the race in a competitive manner. CANNON HILL – Buffeted between runners at the start. EVERLASTING STARS – Began awkwardly. QUARTERSHARE – Began awkwardly and bumped with CANNON HILL at the start. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 200m, shifted out under riding and brushed with GILBERT’S GOLD. CINDERELLA MAN – Declared a late scratching at 8.07am due to no available rider. DEFROSTED – Declared a late scratching at 11.10am due to no available rider.
