STEWARDS REPORT

ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB

FRIDAY 29TH NOVEMBER 2024

WEATHER – FINE
TRACK RATING – SOFT 5
RAIL – +6.5M ENTIRE
PENETROMETER – 5.92

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – E. Suli
Stewards – S. Larkins, H. Gillett, S. Stehbens, G. Wust

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

MACKAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2024 – RACE 1. SKY RACING BM60 HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Trainer K. Smyth reported to stewards that following its run at Mackay on Tuesday 26th November, MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) had pulled up well and it would be his intentions to continue with the gelding’s current preparation.

GENERAL

As Jockey R. Wiggins was not attending today’s meeting due to transport difficulties, rider replacements are as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Overweights permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards gave consideration to a report from the Compliance Assurance Team (CAT) members regarding the detection of a bottle of Hemoplex (containing Cobalt salts) at the stable complex of trainer Jamie McConachy, and whether his runners ACROPHOBIC and SUNNYCOAST should be permitted to start under the provisions of AR254A which reads:

AR 254A Administration of cobalt salts by injection
(1) A person must not:
(a) administer;
(b) cause to be administered;
(c) attempt to administer; or
(d) be a party to the administration or attempted administration of,
a product containing cobalt salts to a horse by injection.
(2) If the Stewards are satisfied that a horse has been, or is likely to have been, administered a product containing cobalt salts by injection, the Stewards may prevent the horse from starting in any race, official trial or jump-out.

When considering the evidence from the CAT members, an inspection of the treatment records of Mr McConachy which identified that Hemoplex was administered to an unnamed filly by Invader in August and September 2024, stewards could not be satisfied that ACROPHOBIC or SUNNYCOAST had been treated with Hemoplex and therefore permitted them to take their place in the field. Stewards ordered that samples be collected from both runners. An inquiry into the possession of the product Hemoplex and administration to an unnamed filly by Invader, will be conducted upon receipt of the sample analysis from both horses being completed.

Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1600 Metres)

GENERAL HIPPO – Reluctant to load. Over raced in the early stages and had to be steadied from the heels of ROYS ROAD near the 1400m.

MR GREY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Detained on course for approximately two and a half hours for post-race blood sampling.

ROY'S ROAD – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

NAHEIGHTKAY – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Upon returning to scale jockey M Wishart reported that her mount made the home turn awkwardly.

Race 2: DICK SULLIVAN MEMORIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 Metres)

MADNUS LEE – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

PEAKING TOM – Shortly after the start shifted inwards and impeded ARTHUR’S DREAM. Was held up for clear running until a point near the 400m.

ARTHUR'S DREAM – Impeded shortly after the start and lost ground when PEAKING TOM shifted in. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SHY REBEL – Jockey M Wishart pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount 10 occasions prior to the 100m. The license to ride in races of Ms Wishart was suspended for 8 days to commence midnight 30 November 2024 and conclude midnight 8 December 2024.

NGAHLI – Jumped away awkwardly.

MY PEPPERJACK – Held up in the home straight before being shifted wider near the 250m.

SEND THE MONEY – Raced wide throughout. When queried in relation to the performance, jockey J Murphy advised the mare appeared to resent the bit throughout and as result was ungenerous when over racing early and he was unable to obtain a position close to the rail, resulting in SEND THE MONEY proving very disappointing after racing wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B Trimble was advised that a warning has been placed against the horse’s racing manners.

Race 3: GRANT & SIMPSON LAWYERS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200 Metres)

GRAYSONG – Bumped at the start with DECIDUOUS. Raced keen in the early stages.

DECIDUOUS – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards bumping GREYSONG. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R Silvera Olivera pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(6)(b) for applying the whip to his mount over the concluding stages in a manner which saw his arm raised above shoulder height on a number of occasions. Jockey Olivera Silvera was fined $200. In assessing penalty stewards considered the rider’s guilty plea, prior record which reflected a reprimand the week prior and previous penalties imposed under similar circumstances.

MONEY MAN – Over raced in the early and middle stages.

NOBLE HEART – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 200m.

MISS RINEHART – Jumped away awkwardly.

Race 4: TAB CLASS 6 HANDICAP (1100 Metres)

ACROPHOBIC – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn. Held up for clear running in the home straight until a point near the 200m.

MILO MAN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Jockey W Satherley was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance other than racing wide throughout. Trainer J Wigginton advised he was of the view that racing wide throughout proved detrimental to the horses’ chances. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

BENCOOLEN – Jumped away awkwardly.

DEEP BLAST – Jumped away awkwardly.

CAVENTE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 5: NAB REGIONAL AGRIBUSINESS CLASS 3 PLATE (1050 Metres)

RUBUNKAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

STAR GAMBLE – Bounded on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn.

SWEET FANTASY – Shifted in on jumping impeding LOVE MY LOUIS and shortly after was carried outwards and tightened between runners. Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 400m.

LAMENTUM – Began awkwardly. Tightened soon after the start when crossed by LITTLE MISS BELLE. Apprentice C Baker (LITTLE MISS BELLE) was advised to ensure she allows sufficient clearance to her inside when crossing to the lead near the 1000m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

MASALI RAFFA – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Tightened and checked near the 900m.

IMPACTFULL MISS – shifted inwards shortly after the start tightening SWEET FANTASY. Raced wide early. Become awkward in its action for a short distance near the 200m.

LITTLE MISS BELLE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards impeding LOVE MY LOUIS. Apprentice C Baker advised that she attributed the improved performance to the mare being able to travel well during the run and responding well when placed under pressure. Trainer L Clem advised that he attributed the improvement to the addition of a tongue tie after the mare appeared to have choked down at its most recent start when trapped wide throughout.

LOVE MY LOUIS – Impeded at the start by LITTLE MISS BELLE which shifted outwards and SWEET FANTASY, which shifted in. Jockey M Wishart was found guilty of a charge under AR131(a) for carelessly allowing her mount to shift in near the 900m resulting in LAMENTUM being tightened and carried in onto MASALI RAFFA, with that runner being checked from its rightful position. The license to ride in races of Ms Wishart was suspended for 10 days to commence midnight 4 December 2024 and conclude midnight 14 December 2024. In issuing this penalty stewards took into account the overall impact of this suspension and the one incurred in race two, therefore ordered that four days of this penalty be served concurrently with the suspension from Race two.

MORE STYLISH – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING ENTRIES OPEN QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1300 Metres)

GENERAL WOLFFE – Over the final stages bumped with the HAIRDRESSER when that runner attempted to shift wider into clear running.

WOODSTOCK ROCK – Began awkwardly.

THE HAIRDRESSER – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight. Bumped with GENERAL WOLFFE near the 50m when attempting to obtain a clear run. When questioned, jockey J Stanley advised that after beginning only fairly he elected to restrain to a rearward position to avoid being caught wide and then proceeded to look to obtain inside runs rather than restrain to shift wider in the home straight. Mr Stanley further added that he was unable to obtain clear running at various stages in the final 500m and was unable to fully test his mount to the finish.

SHEKINAH – Bounded on jumping. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.

BORNEES LAD – Apprentice B Moffat was fined $200 under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim down to his declared riding weight. Began awkwardly. Trainer L Clem was queried in relation to the apparent improved performance and advised that after its most recent win the gelding was suffering the effects of a possible virus and had now appeared to be fully recovered, and the addition of a tongue tie allowed him the confidence of a much better showing.

HOLY CROWN – Raced wide early.

STREET NEEDS – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
