GENERAL

RACE 1: TAB BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP (1400 M)

AMERICAN PRESIDENT – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider on a number of occasions.

SIR GRACE (NZ) – Bounded on jumping and as a result was slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Improved onto the heels of MOTAMAYIZ (GB) near the 800m and shifted wider, carrying PREPOTENT outwards. Jockey W Satherley pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 9 times prior to the 100m, 20 in totality. Jockey Satherley’s licence was suspended for period of 9 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 22/03/2025 and conclude 31/03/2025. In determining penalty, stewards considered the whip penalty guidelines.

CAVE DIVER (GB) – When questioned in relation, jockey R Silvera Olivera reported that CAVE DIVER (GB) had travelled well throughout the event, however, was one paced. Jockey Silvera Olivera further stated that when asked to quicken, the mare failed to respond to his riding urges, adding that in his opinion believes CAVE DIVER (GB) is suited for races over further distances and that it would derive significant benefit from today’s run.

PREPOTENT – Near the 800m was carried wider on the track by SIR GRACE (NZ) which shifted outwards after improving onto the heels of another runner. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – When asked for a comment on the performance, apprentice N Olzard stated that she was overly disappointed and could offer not explanation for the poor performance. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities. Connections advised stewards that they would be considering the immediate racing future of MOTAMATIZ (GB) within the stable.

RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 M)

LADY TOWNSON (NZ) – Near the 300m, had to be steadied by its rider when attempting a tight run between BOYFRIEND MATERIAL and D’ESPRIT. Elected to shift out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.

BOYFRIEND MATERIAL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MOMENT OF TRUTH – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

PHANTOM FLIGHT – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

AIN'T NOBODY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stewards inquired into interference sustained by AIN’T NOBODY (jockey T chambers) near the 300m when racing between PHANTOM FLIGHT (apprentice G Semmens) and MOMENT OF TRUTH (apprentice O O’Donnell). After reviewing the stewards patrol footage and hearing submissions from riders, stewards found that leading up to the incident, MOMENT OF TRUTH was inclined to lay inwards and had to be corrected by its rider on a number of occasions, whilst simultaneously, PHANTOM FLIGHT was inclined to lay outwards. It was further established that leaving the 300m, whilst weakening, AIN’T NOBODY was contacted by PHANTOM FLIGHT in the hindquarters and was carried outwards and placed in restricted room between that runner and MOMENT OF TRUTH. Shortly afterwards approaching the 200m, LADY TOWNSON (NZ) (apprentice N Olzard) shifted outwards to obtain a run to the inside of PHANTOM FLIGHT, marginally carried wider whilst it continued to lay out. Passing the 200m, with the shifts in and out by MOMENT OF TRUTH and PHANTOM FLIGHT respectively, AIN’T NOBODY was tightened for room and as a result had to be steadied for a stride. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered to AIN’T NOBODY could be attributed to any one rider, therefore took no further action. All riders were reminded of their obligations to ensure their mounts are corrected accordingly when being allowed to shift when placed under pressure.
