SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Rockhampton 12 April 2025

SUNNYCOAST - Trainer J McConachy advised that SUNNYCOAST had pulled up well post-race and it is the intention to continue with the current preparation. The trainer further added that he concurred with the riders view that SUNNYCOAST had failed to run out the 1300m distance on the day in question.

HONOURBEFORE GLORY - Trainer C Taylor advised that HONOURBEFORE GLORY had pulled up well subsequent to the race and would now have a brief freshen up prior to resuming racing.


GENERAL

Trainer C Taylor was reprimanded under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch COOL ENCOUNTER which was dually accepted by the prescribed time. When considering penalty stewards were mindful that Mr Taylor has not had a previous breach under this rule.

Trainer S Green was fined $100 under LR36(a)(a) for failing to scratch CANNY BE BETTER which was dually accepted by the prescribed time. When considering penalty stewards were mindful that Ms Green has had a recent breach under this rule.

Trainer J McConachy was reprimanded under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on DUBIOUS LOVE. When considering penalty stewards were mindful that Mr McConachy has not had a previous breach under this rule.


Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M

REMLAP KAVA – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance jockey A Butler advised that the gelding raced one paced and failed to quicken when asked for an effort in the home straight.

BADLIFEDECISION – Slow into stride. Over raced in the early and middle stages.

SUNSHINE SALLY – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.


Race 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

DUKE OF LANCASTER – Held up for clear running until approaching the 400m. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 100m.

FINE AND RARE – Began awkwardly and bumped SPELLHOUND.

NAUGHTYNODDY – Refused to proceed to the start and harmlessly dislodged apprentice M Philpot. Was declared a late scratching at 1.03pm by order of stewards. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all bets placed on NAUGHTYNODDY were to be refunded in full and the following deductions applicable to successful wagers:

0c the win on first place SPELLHOUND
1c the place on first place SPELLHOUND
3c the place for second place DUKE OF LANCASTER

Trainer T Cook was advised that NAUGHTYNODDY has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial. A post-race veterinary examination of NAUGHTYNODDY failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

RUM RUMBLE – Laid in noticeably when under pressure in the home straight.

SPELLHOUND – Began awkwardly and bumped with FINE AND RARE. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

FANCY LEGEND – Began awkwardly.


Race 3: THANKS CAP SALES VENDORS AND BUYERS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M

PRECISE TORQUE – Apprentice L Martyn advised that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event.

BITTER SPIRIT – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Apprentice M Philpot advised that her mount raced very greenly throughout and would likely derive benefit from the race experience.

GRUMPYOLDCOL – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result.

I'M NOT GREY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Began very awkwardly, contacting the outside barrier partition and was slow to begin as a result. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

HEROIC TALENT – Raced wide early until obtaining the lead near the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BUNGARRIBEE RAIN – Bounded on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.

SHEZA ALIBI – Held up for clear running until a point near the 400m.

VALUBIOUS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Disappointed for a clear run in the early part of the home straight.


Race 4: ROCKY CUP CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW BM58 HANDICAP 1300 M

COOL ENCOUNTER – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Trainer C Taylor advised when questioned regarding the performance that he was of the view that the gelding settled too far back in the run from an awkward barrier draw to overcome the heavy weight impost and slow tempo of the race.

THREE GONGS – Slow into stride.

JUST BINGO – Inclined to lay outwards when under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the improved performance by comparison to the last start failure of JUST BINGO, Trainer D Gardiner advised that he was expecting a forward showing as the gelding was very worked up pre-race at its most recent start and proved disappointing on that occasion after racing on a firm surface. The trainer further added that whilst he expected the gelding to improve, he was still surprised with today’s overall performance.

NORTHUMBRIA – Began awkwardly and bumped with STREET GOD. Over raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

STREET GOD – Began awkwardly and bumped with NORTHUMBRIA. Jockey R Wiggins could offer no tangible reason for the disappointing performance.

BO BO BEWARE – Slow to begin and raced three wide throughout. Jockey A Butler advised that in his opinion the gelding felt awkward in its action after racing three wide throughout and as a result he failed to persist with riding his mount out over the final 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ITZA MOTZA – Over raced in the early stages until finding a position with cover near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice L Martyn pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100m and 11 times in total. In accordance with the Whip Penalty Guidelines Ms Martyn was fined $500.

OUR HEART THROB – Began awkwardly.


Race 5: CAPRICORN SURVEY GROUP BM70 HANDICAP 1500 M

DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) – Marginally hampered soon after the start and was slow to begin as a result. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight. Jockey J Huxtable, when questioned regarding the poor performance, advised that the gelding failed to run out a strong 1500m with the heavy weight impost of 62 kilograms and may be better suited to races over a shorter distance.

DECIDUOUS – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.

GET WHAT YOU GIVE – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start. Raced wide in the early stages until finding the lead near the 1300m. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by the rider on a number of occasions.

OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages and was restrained to obtain a position with cover near the 1300m. Over raced during the middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

PREPOTENT – Began awkwardly and hampered DEEPSTRIKE (NZ). Over raced in the early and middle stages.




Race 6: MP SECURITY BM60 HANDICAP 1600 M

Prior to correct weight being declared, T Cook, trainer of fourth placed ENTERPRISE PHOENIX, viewed the photo finish and was satisfied with the judge’s decision.

ZOFFANY'S GAZE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after slipping over in the tie up area which revealed insignificant abrasion to the right hind coronet and was cleared to start. Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer L Horstman was advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding for its pre-race manners. Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey P Hamblin was reprimanded under AR131(a) for carelessly shifting out leaving the 400m and bumping heavily with WHATJEUDOIN’.

REPLACE THE ACE – Jockey A Butler when questioned regarding settling on the pace rather than leading and stated that he was mindful that the gelding does have a tendency to over race and was satisfied to settle where the horse relaxed. Mr Butler further added that his mount travelled well until the final 200m where REPLACE THE ACE went to the line in a dour manner. Mr Butler further added that connections have advised that it is their intention to give the gelding a freshen up prior to recommencing racing.

I SAY BOOM – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider on a number of occasions. When questioned in relation to leading which appeared contrary to the geldings recent racing pattern, apprentice N Olzard advised that after beginning well and the lack of speed shown by other runners she felt would press forward, she elected to maintain the lead in a moderate tempo. Miss Olzard further added that it is the intention to continue to ride the Gelding in a positive manner and attributed the improvement in performance to this style of tactic and a change in training regime.

MOMENT OF TRUTH – Jockey J Huxtable pleaded guilty to a charge under AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight. When considering the Penalty Guidelines, the rider guilty plea and clear record for an extended period, Mr Huxtable was fined $200.

WHATJEUDOIN' – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped heavily near the 400m and become unbalanced when ZOFFANY’S GAZE shifted outwards. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned jockey J Stanley advised that after being bumped solidly near the 400m his mount lost momentum and once regaining balance and placed under pressure finished the race off strongly. Mr Stanley added that leading up to the 400m he was satisfied to trail the race favorite MOMENT OF TRUTH into the race.

SADDLES – Raced keenly in the middle stages.



Race 7: LJ HOOKER ROCKHAMPTON BM70 HANDICAP 1200 M

MENAZZI – Began awkwardly and bumped with LAST DITCH EFFORT. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards throughout.

MOENAVE – Held up for clear running until a point near the 400m.

PARADE GROUND – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice M Apel could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. When questioned trainer R Vale stated that in his opinion the gelding may have choked down in running and it was his intention to experiment with gear to rectify this this matter prior to PARADE GROUND’S next start. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

DEEP BLAST – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Impeded soon after the start by LAST DITCH EFFORT. Held up for clear running until near the 200m. Jockey R Silvera Olivera was reminded of his obligations in relation to his whip hand being raised above shoulder height.

LAST DITCH EFFORT – Bumped on jumping by MENAZZI and was carried inwards and impeded DEEP BLAST as a result.


Race 8: GARRARDS QTIS BM58 HANDICAP 1050 M

HENRY'S BLADE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M Philpot when questioned regarding the performance explained that the gelding travelled well throughout but proved slightly disappointing over the concluding stages. Ms Philpot was of the view that the weight impost may have proved detrimental over the concluding stages.

PRETTY SLICK – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M Apel reported that her mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however failed to quicken when asked for an effort in the home straight.

TOW THE LINE – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Jockey J Huxtable advised that due to his mount beginning awkwardly he struck his right shoulder on the barrier structure and was experiencing some discomfort and generalised pain. Mr Huxtable declined QAS assistance and undertook to report any further issues.

ZUFASTA – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Gave ground noticeably over the final stages. Trainer K Sinclair was advised that a warning has been placed against the gelding for its performance.

DEVIL DEVIL – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.

MORE STYLISH – Briefly raced in restricted room around the turn near the 900m. Disappointed for a run near the 200m and had to shift wider to obtain clear running. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance trainer J Wigginton advised that a more preferable barrier draw today by comparison to last start where the filly raced wide throughout allowed MORE STYLISH a more economical run in transit and he was not surprised by the improvement.

DUBIOUS LOVE – Jockey R Silvera Olivera explained that his mount was disadvantaged by the fast tempo when considering it was racing first up for more than five months.

I'M FAMOUS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
