RACE 1. ZONTA BETTY BATES MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 1000M


Prior to the race stewards and riders inspected wet sections of the track at the 120m to 160m and also several sections in the area of the pull-up which also was part of the 1640m course. A mutual decision was taken to delay the start of Race1 to allow the track to drain further. Subsequently Race1 was delayed until 2-15pm.

Jockey J Baker was unable to make the weight on HARADASTAR and was replaced by M O’Brien. Jockey Baker was fined $150 for overweight.

Appr. J Brand was dislodged from RUBIS on the way to the barriers. RUBIS galloped back to the stabling area and then escaped off course before being recaptured and returned to the start. The gelding was inspected by the Veterinarian and not passed to start having sustained a number of lacerations and was withdrawn at 2-10pm.

All monies invested on RUBIS to be refunded and the following deductions applied.
Winner SPIDAZAM 7c win 8c place
Second SOMERSET DAWN 8c place
Third HEARTILY 8c place

A Veterinary Certificate required prior to RUBIS racing again.

CUPPA TEA LOVE ( S Apthorpe )jumped out at the start contacting GLORY ME ( L Appo ).

SPIDAZAM jumped out at the start.

Jockey C Kearney reported that HAYIL HAVOC did not handle the wet sand and resented the throw back.

HEARTILY ( R Kerwin ) was restless in the stalls then hung out from the 800m to the finish.


RACE2 PAULA LANE MEMORIAL HCP BENCHMARK 55 1000m

PUBLICITY was a late scratching at 2-00pm on Veterinary advice. Veterinary Certificate required prior to racing again.

B Powell replaced J Baker (overweight ) on BARACCA.

Appr. B Newport reported to stewards that he neglected to send the girth and breast plate out with his gear on PURE SUNSET. Appr. Newport was fined $100 for negligence.

NADOR (L Appo ) was slow to begin.

ZIONIC ( B P Appo ) jumped inwards and KUNG FU KITTY ( R Kerwin ) which knuckled on jumping moved inwards causing DESERT PLAYBOY ( C Kearney ) to be hampered and lose ground.

HEARTY CLANG R Payne ) hung out from the start to the 600m

YOUSKA( S Apthorpe )sustained a Tendon injury to the offside front leg and was treated by the Veterinary officer. A Veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.



RACE 3 THE ROYAL HOTEL OPEN HCP 1000M


BEACHCOMER ( L Tilley ) slow to jump. When questioned as to the reasons for the gelding not showing his normal pace Appr Tilley said that his mount did not feel comfortable on the wet sand surface and as a result failed to stretch out in the early stages. Explanation noted.

BRADY ‘N ‘ ME ( L Appo ) raced greenly under pressure over the concluding stages.

Jockey R Kerwin reported that OAMARU PRINCESS compounded badly down the running. A subsequent Veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities.











RACE 4 LEIGH-ANNE GOODWIN MEMORIAL CLASS3 PLATE 1200m

RED BULL ( B Newport ) was difficult to load then stood flatfooted refusing to jump on terms with the field. RED BULL’S trainer advised that a Barrier Certificate was required prior to the horse racing again.

TOURMALET (B Powell ) and MAY RAIN ( S Apthorpe ) were both slow to jump.

McQUEEN ( R Kerwin ) jumped outwards causing jockey Kerwin to strike her left foot on the stalls.

At the 500m WRITTENINTHERAIN (R Payne ) moved out crowding MUTINY ( L Tilley )

Appr Payne (WRITTENINTHERAIN) explained that her mount was uncomfortable on the sand surface and was changing stride throughout.




RACE 5 XXXX GOLD HCP BENCHMARK 55 1640m

B P Appo replaced J Baker ( overweight ) on QUECHUA.

In the straight on the first occasion LATARNO ( T Brooker ) hung out moving GRAND SUITE ( L Tilley ) wider on the track.

TEAM THUNDERSTONE ( L Appo ) drifted in over the concluding stages.

PAPA GEE ( R Payne )had to change course to obtain clear running in the straight.

The rider of GRAND SUITE ( L Tilley ) reported that his gate did not open at the same time as the rest of the runners. Both the starter and the duty steward believed that the gates were not slow in opening and as a clear film start was not available on the patrol video to assist the matter, Stewards declared that the horse was a runner.
