GENERAL:

All riders were breath tested on arrival and returned negative readings. Numerous urine samples were taken from riders and were sent for analysis.

RACE 1: DMAC EARTHMOVING/MURRAY BUILDERS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1000M

Rider P. Hamblin was unable to fulfil his engagement on GOLOVKIN due to transport difficulties. Stewards allowed the app. N. Keal to replace due to no other senior riders available.

Prior to correct weight, riders R. Faher, J. Missen and S. Egan made application for their mounts to be declared non-runners on the basis of being denied a fair start. After viewing film and hearing evidence from starter and riders stewards deemed the following:

SIR CLISBY - Whilst being fractious in the gates rider R. Faher was forced to dismount onto the barrier partition and as a result at the time the start was effected SIR CLISBY was riderless. Therefore stewards declared the horse a non-starter under AR134A.

HYPNOTIZING - At the time the start was effected , rider J. Missen was of the opinion that a false start was going to be signalled due to another rider not being mounted and therefore he restrained HYPNOTIZING which took no competitive part in the race. As no false start was signalled stewards were of the opinion there were no grounds for HYPNOTIZING to be declared a non- starter therefore the application was denied.
ATTRENTE – S. Egan stated that he did not anticipate the start was going to be effected when it was and therefore the gelding began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards deemed that these circumstances were not grounds upon which to declare ATTRENTE to be non- starter therefore the application was denied.

Furthermore stewards determined the event could not be considered as a no race as the starter had effected the start, there was no malfunction of the barriers and furthermore a false start was not signalled by the starter.

Therefore correct weight was declared. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SIR CLISBY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #6
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
7 cents in the dollar for second place #1
12 cents in the dollar for third place #3

THAT’S THE PLAN – Near the 900m had to be steadied from heels of GIRLS SAY which shifted in. App. B. Rooney was advised to exercise more care.

GIRLS SAY – Raced wide throughout.

GOLOVKIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

JUST LIKE ERROL –Bled both nostrils. Trainer C. Smith was advised that the gelding would be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resumes to racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

After a significant downpour of rain which required remedial work on the track, stewards in consultation of riders inspected the track. All parties deemed the track to be suitable for racing however the remaining races were all run on a heavy rain effected track with significant kickback. Races 2- 4 were delayed.

RACE 2: GJ GARDNER HOMES/QUEENSLAND COUNTRY MEATS CLASS 3 PLATE 1000M

ROSA MARGUERITA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

RACE 3: BRETT POLLOCK CONSTRUCTIONS/WEST TECH SYSTEMS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M

LOFN – Bumped heavy at the start.

WILD BOYS – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

RACE 4: CITIES GLADIATORS COMMONWEALTH HOTEL/HOME HARDWARE RLFC CUP OPEN PLATE 1200M

Stewards accepted trainer C. Smith explanation for the late declaration of L. McCoy rider of HAZARD BAY.

Due to the prevailing track conditions stewards exceeded to a request from trainer P. Webster for TORERO to race in winkers rather than blinkers.

HAZARD BAY – Fractious in gates, bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

TORERO – Bumped at the start.

HAMILTON – Bumped at the start.

RACE 5: SM & KA DUFF BUILDERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1640M
