QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB ROMA – SATURDAY 21 11 2020 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING –Good (Sand) RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – M Heath, B Cooke & B McErlean Clerk of Scales – D KerwickJudge – J MoodyVeterinarian – W NasonSwab Attendants – D McDonald & H LewindonStarter – S Crouchley SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT As App. T Townsend was unable to arrive on course by the required time to complete her riding engagement, she was replaced as the rider of MISS DAISY in Race 1 by App. A Bakos. App. Townsend was reprimanded for failing to fulfill her engagement. In assessing the matter Stewards were mindful of the minor traffic delays being experienced enroute to the track. As App. D Graham was overweight she was replaced in races 3,5 and 8 as per the Stewards Summary. App. Graham was fined $300. Race 1: HALL CHADWICK QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres Great Brave – Bumped on jumping. Maevila Ruler – Tightened on jumping away. Rostrum – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer C Smith was advised that ROSTRUM would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months and must gallop over 1000 metres to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing. The Last Dragon – Slow to begin. Curic – Raced very wide without cover throughout. Niksicko – Raced very wide without cover throughout. Better Looking – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Dancing Tales - Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Moscow Mistress – Began awkwardly. Race 2: COATES HIRE ROMA QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres Beautiful Crazy – Laid out rounding the home turn. Exceptional Belle – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 900 metres. Glamouron – Raced four wide without cover throughout. La Dame – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout. Race 3: MARANOA REGIONAL COUNCIL Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres Difficult – Reared in the gates on numerous occasions. Was removed from the gates and subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:15pm when Jockey A Spinks was injured and unable to fulfill his engagement. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DIFFICULT be refunded with the following deductions apply to successful wagers placed prior to the scratching of DIFFICULT: 1st- 5 cents the win and 6 cents the place.2nd- 8 cents the place.3rd- 5 cents the place. Trainer W Baker will be advised that he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for DIFFICULT prior to it racing again. Jockey A Spinks will require a medical clearance prior to next riding after being transported to hospital for assessment on an ankle injury. Rider replacements and scratchings were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Vox Populi – Began awkwardly. Sherpa Jack – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Persaga – Began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with another runner shortly after the start. Leaving the 650m improved onto heels and was forced to be restrained for short distance. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Betty Is Ready – Began awkwardly tightening another runner to the inside. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore knee. Trainer P Townsend was advised that BETTY IS READY would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. Buwan – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. D'great Beauty – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1640 metres Chamberlain – Laid out rounding the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion. Master Of The Turf – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Bracken – Bumped shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced wide in the early stages and was then forced wider by another runner for a short distance near the 1000 metres. Raced wide with cover for the remainder. Harbour Trick – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey L Tilley was reprimanded for using his whip excessively during the event. Ordell – Bumped shortly after the start and lost ground. Near the 1200 metres raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained. Raced wide without cover from near the 1000 metres. Race 5: MCINNES WILSON LAWYERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres Lady Elley – Declared a late scratching at 1:36pm after Jockey A Spinks was stood down and no suitable rider was available. Spice Trader – App. A Ross advised Stewards that she could offer no other tangible explanation for the below market expectation performance other than the gelding may not have backed up from its most recent start at Blackall. Done It Again – Near the 1000 metres was placed in restricted room when racing to the inside of UNRESOLVED which was taken in by HOCKED which shifted in when not completely clear. App. D McGillivray the rider of HOCKED was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Not Liable – Tightened on jumping and lost ground. Ms Wicked Nicci – Placed in restricted room approaching the 1000 metres. Zollikon Miss – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Iqela – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Authadane – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground at the start. Unresolved – When questioned in relation to the improved performance, Trainer M Currie advised Stewards that the gelding, in his opinion, was racing in inferior company today when back to country grade compared to its recent starts. Further to that he advised that the gelding, in his opinion, favoured and was suited to the sand racing surface. Hocked – Began awkwardly. Race 6: IRON JACK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres My Cousin Bossy – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 450 metres. Last Armageddon – Knuckled on jumping. Fat Max – Knuckled on jumping. Bridyn May – App. D Graham replaced Jockey A Spinks. Clipped heels near the 100 metres and blundered when FOXY BELLA (A Ross) laid out when placed under pressure when struck with the whip, before being straightened by its rider. Enterprise Grand – Raced three wide with cover throughout. You Know The One – Resented the kick back in the early and middle stages. Besters – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Valar Dohaeris – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 7: COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/ROYAL ON 99 ROMA CUP OPEN Handicap 1640 metres Fab's Cowboy – Near the 1200 metres, steadied from heels whilst racing keenly. Continued to race keenly until near 1000 metres where again steadied to avoid heels. Eschiele – Laid in near the 1000 metres despite the efforts of its rider. Hanover Square – Steadied when improving onto heels near the 600 metres. Trommelschlagen – Approaching the 1000 metres was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of ESCHIELE which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Mr Tickets – Knuckled badly on jumping almost dislodging its rider. Near the 1000 metres, improved onto heels and was checked. Snipfit – Raced wide without cover throughout. Billy The Kid – Jockey J Rudd replaced Jockey A Spinks. Raced wide throughout without cover. Proud Roc – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 8: XXXX DRY COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN QUALITY Handicap 1000 metres Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight, both App. A Ross (FULLY MAXED) and App. T Townsend (CLIVEDEN) reviewed the film to determine if there were grounds for objection against MUIRON being declared 2nd. Upon review of the patrol footage both riders elected not to proceed with lodging an objection. Hard Stride – Knuckled on jumping. Tightened approaching the 600 metres. Ozark – Jumped with its head in the air. Another Sin – Jockey L Tilley dropped his whip in the early stages of the home straight. Fully Maxed – Significantly tightened approaching the 600 metres and made heavy contact with the running rail. All Eez – Raced wide without cover throughout. The Consigliere – Raced wide without cover throughout. Muiron – App. M Castle replaced App. D Graham who was overweight. Gendebien – Jockey M Gray replaced Jockey A Spinks. Il Bandito – Raced wide without cover throughout. Tightened for room approaching the 600 metres. Cliveden – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room approaching the 600 metres. Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred approaching the 600 metres. After considering the observations of Stewards, the evidence of the riders and reviewing the available patrol films, App. M Castle the rider MUIRON, in the presence of Jockey L Tilley, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 600 metres, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Il BANDITO which was taken in onto HARD STRIDE, resulting in HARD STRIDE, CLIVEDEN and FULLY MAXED all being severely tightened for room and FULLY MAXED making heavy contact with the running rail. App. Castle’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 30th November 2020 and to expire on midnight 14th December 2020. In considering penalty, Stewards took into account that the incident was in the high range as well as the exemplary record and guilty plea of App. Castle.
