QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB ROMA – SATURDAY 26 JUNE 2021 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good (sand) RAIL –True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – D KerwickClerk of Scales – D KerwickJudge – N EvansVeterinarian – A GuthrieSwab Attendants – D McDonaldStarter – S Crouchley GENERAL Due the postponement of this meeting from Saturday 26 June 2021, Jockey J Baker was unable to attend today’s meeting. As such rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary, with App. Jockey’s permitted to replace senior Jockey Baker where required due to a shortage of available suitable senior riders. As S Sweedman was to be overweight in races 2 and 4, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey Sweedman was fined $200. Race 1: TOOWOOMBA GRAMMAR SCHOOL Class 4 Handicap 1200 metres MINTED- Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. WAIT A MINUTE- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. VALAR DOHAERIS- Momentarily raced in restricted for near the 400m when MINTED shifted out to secure clear running. App. A Jones the rider of MINTED was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. NECESSITAS (NZ) Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. FROZE- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Raced extremely wide without cover throughout. Race 2: TOOWOOMBA ANGLICAN SCHOOL OPEN Handicap 1200 metres No racing incidents. Race 3: ROMA VETERINARY CLINIC Maiden Plate 1000 metres Start was delayed when BRANLINA proved difficult to load. Trainer R Cloherty was advised he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the mare prior to next racing. GLAMOURON- Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room when awkwardly placed at heels near the 400m. PUNJABI SAVITAR- Raced wide throughout. WUNULLA LADY (NZ)- Raced wide throughout. Race 4: ROMA GAS RUGBY SLIPPER QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap1000 metres CAJUN LADY- Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start and lost significant ground. Trainer S Rodgers was advised he would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the filly prior to next racing. CRAIGLEA BANDIT- App. A Jones accidentally dropped her whip near the 200m. EIL 'N' ALL- Hung out for the majority of the event. Trainer S Rodgers was advised a warning would be issued against the fillies racing manners. Race 5: THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1640 metres CRAIGLEA ARION- Laid in in the early stages. WAMWARRA BAY- Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. AKLAVIK- Jockey L McCoy could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding which she reported raced flat today. THE BEAT- Steadied from heels near the 1300m. ITSALLKAY- Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the leading position near the 1000m. Race 6: KOMATSU BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1000 metres The starting position of this event was moved forward a short distance when it was established that a section of track located close to the rail under where the barriers would be positioned was waterlogged and unsuitable for use. This section of track was able to be avoided in prior events from this start due to smaller field limits however due the capacity field in this event the decision to move the barriers forward slightly was required. This decision was made to reduce the possibility of horses’ slipping on jumping away. RURAL REBEL- Declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2:41pm after becoming fractious in the barriers. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the mare be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st- 14cents the win 15cents the place2nd- 15cents the place3rd- 15cents the place. Trainers representative M Johnson was advised the stable would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the mare prior to next racing. App. A. Jones, was examined by the ambulance officials following this incident and cleared of any apparent injuries. BARTOS- Reared at the start. BEAN BAG- Began awkwardly. THE OLD BIRD (NZ)- Slow to begin.
