QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB ROMA – SATURDAY 24 JULY 2021 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good (sand) RAIL –True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – P JenkinsClerk of Scales – P JenkinsJudge – N EvansVeterinarian – A Guthrie GENERAL As Jockey G Steele was injured and not riding at the meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey Steele will require a medical clearance prior to next riding. Race 1: WEST TECH SYSTEMS & COUNTRY MEATS CLASS B H’CAP 900 metres BRANLINA- Was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards after becoming fractious in the barriers, and once removed, escaping the handlers, galloping a considerable distance riderless. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BRANLINA be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st- 0 cents the wins, 4 cents the place2nd- 2 cents the place3rd- 3 cents the place Stewards advised BRANLINA’S trainer Mr R Cloherty that the mare would be required to obtain 2 further barrier certificates in the presence of Stewards prior to next racing. In this incident Jockey J Baker advised of some discomfort in his right foot. MOVING DAY- Tightened for room at the start. GENERAL MO- Knuckled on jumping. BETTER BE GREAT- Hung out shifting very wide on the track during the event. Trainer C Smith was advised a warning would be issued against the filly’s racing manners. Race 2: CAFÉ 54 & TAYLORS PARTS CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres STELLAR WITNESS- Began awkwardly losing ground. TWOGOBOOM- Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Race 3:COMMONWEALTH HOTEL QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 metres PERSAGA- Began awkwardly and was then tightened for room at the start losing ground. When questioned in relation to the below market expectation performance of the filly, trainer C Smith advised that in his opinion after suffering interference at the start the filly was not suited when forced to race at the rear of the field on the tight turning track and as a consequence was unable to run on when placed under pressure in the home straight. GEKKO- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. BOOM OR BUST- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Race 4: GJ GARDNER HOMES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap1640 metres SNIPFIT- Bled both nostrils during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding had bled, it would now be barred from racing from racing for a period of 3 months and further would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to next racing. HOCKED- Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. SAYL- Began awkwardly. RINVIATA- Tightened on jumping losing ground. Race 5: ROMA HOME IMPROVEMENT BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1000 metres DEADLY ONE- Tightened for room at the start. CALCULATED RISK- Began awkwardly. DIFFICULT – Raced wide throughout. THE LAST DRAGON- Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: XXXX GOLD OPEN Handicap 1000 metres MARMARIS- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
