GENERAL

Due to the extremely hot conditions at today’s meeting all horses were paraded with only 10 minutes prior to the starting time and a post- race veterinary examination was performed to ensure the welfare and health of the horses participating at this meeting.

Due to no suitable rider being available for LASTING JOY and GOLD CHANCE in Race 1, acting under LR68 (1) both horses were scratched by Stewards at 0940hrs.

Race 1- XXXX GOLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000M

FAMUS FELLA- leaving the 500m point the rider elected to shift out wide to improve and finished the race off strongly.

ROCK EASY- began awkwardly and as a result lost ground.

CAJUN LADY- began awkwardly, over raced in the early stages and travelled wide with no cover for the majority of the event.

REAL DRAMA- after beginning well raced greenly in the early stages of the event.

SECRET SUSHI- was fractious in the mounting yard and dislodged the rider M McGillivray who was uninjured. He remounted the horse and travelled to the barriers with no further incident. The horse was examined pre-race by the Veterinarian, with no abnormalities detected and passed fit to race.

Race 2- JAMES SQUIRE 150 LASHES CLASS B HANDICAP 1000M

AVISION- jumped okay and began to lay out shortly after the start. Continued to lay out and was bumped by another runner to the inside when approaching the 900m point and despite the efforts of the rider laid out for the majority.

KING CONI- shifted out abruptly shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider to restrain the horse approaching the 900m point bumped AVISION which was to its outside. On returning to scale the Rider Appr T. Townsend advised Stewards that the horse appeared to resent the kick back during the early stages which may have contributed to the incident approaching the 900m point. Stewards noted T. Townsend’s explanation.

ZUMA- on returning to scale Appr Jockey S Champkin advised Stewards that the horse laid in mid race and provided difficult to ride for a short time.

PULCHERIA- slow to begin.

Race 3- HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

ANOTHER PLAN- was slow to begin and travelled wide from the 800m point. The horse began to improve when entering the home straight and finished the race off well.

FOR LOVE- led for the majority and began to lay in under pressure over the final stages.

Race 4- JAMES SQUIRE GINGER BEER OPEN PLATE 1640M

HOCKED- failed to go the early speed and got a long was back.

LI’L RODGE- began awkwardly and got further back than anticipated, from the 1200m point travelled wide for the majority, began to weaken at 300m point and failed to finish the race off when called upon by the rider.

OH WHY- jumped out and made contact with RINVIATA shortly after the start.

RINVIATA- bumped shortly after the start by OH WHY on the inside and then was buffeted between runners shortly afterwards resulting in the rider having to take hold and straighten his mount.

MAXIMUM HUSTLE- prior to being loaded into the barriers the horse dislodged its rider and completed a large distance of the course before being caught. The Gelding was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and exhibited signs of exhaustion. Stewards acting on Vet advice under AR21(j) declared it a late scratching at 3.23pm. Trainer W. Baker was advised a Vet Certificate would be required prior to the horse running again. Appr Jockey S. Champkin was unhurt in the incident. Stewards spoke with Rider S. Champkin who advised Stewards post- race that the horse appeared to become agitated when waiting to be loaded and when assistance was sought from barrier staff, she became dislodged and the horse ran off. As MAXIMUM HUSTLE has no previous history of this type of incident and Stewards took no further action in relation to this matter.

Due to the late scratching of MAXIMUM HUSTLE the declaration of correct weight was ordered by Stewards with the following deductions applied Win o- Place 12c- 2nd place 8c and 3rd place 13c.

PALATE- hung out during the early stages of the event.

TAKE A SHINE- travelled wide with no cover for the majority.

Race 5- XXXX DRY QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M

The surveillance camera footage from the 1000m tower was inconsistent and of poor quality due to a strong westerly wind and a minor dust storm.

BOOMSHAKE THE ROOM- travelled wide with no cover for the majority of the event.

OLD TOWN ROAD- tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.

BUNDOORA- shifted out marginally after entering the home straight.

RIPOVA- on returning to scales the rider M. Schrapel notified Stewards that his mount attempted to jump a shadow or an object near the crossing approaching the 1100m point in the event. Stewards noted M Schrapel’s comments. Travelled wide for the majority with no cover.

ORDESA- hung in for a short distance after entering the home straight.
