GENERAL
 
As the photo-finish equipment was inoperable this race meeting was conducted without the aid of a photo-finish camera as provided for by AR 214.
 
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at todays meeting.
 
Race 2 - G. Steele .5kg
Race 4 – G. Steele .5kg
 
 
Race 1 – NOONGA  Maiden Plate 1000m
 
 
BUNGARRIBEE LAD – Shifted out at about the 700m to obtain clear running free of kick back, momentarily hampering another runner. App N. Seymour was advised to exercise greater care.
 
ROSES FOR OLLIE – Attempted to buck soon after the start. Momentarily hampered passing the 700m. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Trainer W. Baker was advised that the mare would require two consecutive Barrier trails to the satisfaction of stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
SHE DRIVES ME WILD – Slow to muster early speed.  Jockey D. Baker was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR 131(b).
 
 
 
Race 2 – BRANDON & ASSOCIATES Class B Handicap 1000m
 
 
HANGRY – Was declared a late scratching at 1pm on veterinary advise. Trainer B. Waldron advised the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. As betting had not started for the event no deductions were applicable.
 
BOLD ADMIRAL – After being fractious in the race day tie-ups underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Fractious in the mounting yard. Stewards gave permission for the tongue tie to be removed and the horse to race without the tongue tie in place. Trainer C. Storch was advised to update the stable return and have the tongue tie removed.
 
AVISON – Fractious in barriers. Slow to begin and began awkwardly. Jockey/Trainer C. Rogers advised the gelding became unsettled just prior to the race commencing and began awkwardly. Jockey/ Trainer C. Rogers was advised a warning was being placed on the gelding for its barrier manners.
 
BARTOS – When questioned Trainer R. Kirwin advised that the geldings seemingly improved performance was, in her opinion, attributable to the addition of blinkers for the first time and the claim from the Apprentice rider in todays event.
 
LOVE CLASS – Jockey D. Baker pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he did use his whip in an excessive manner, 17 times in total, throughout the event. Jockey Bakers license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 27th February 2022 up to and including 5th February 2022. Jockey Baker was advised of his right to an internal review.
 
MIKKI’S MISTRESS – On returning to scale App N. Seymour advised the front barrier gates had been slow to open. Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review patrol footage of the start whereby it was confirmed the front barrier gates had been slow to open and the filly was disadvantaged at the start. As such the filly was declared a non-runner by Stewards acting under the provisions of AR 204(1)(c ). Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on the filly be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers-
 
14cents in the dollar for the win
16cents in the dollar for the place
 
Following the running of this event test were carried out on the Barriers to ensure full functionality.
 
 
Race 3 – SYDEVA HAULAGE BENDEMERE CUP OPEN Plate 1000m
 
PURPLE CUP – Blundered at start.
 
FORGED IN STONE – Finished tailed off. Trainer J. Patterson indicated the gelding was outclassed in todays event and was underdone going into today and would subsequently derive significant benefit in terms of fitness from todays event.
 
PARTNERS – Shifted in at 800m causing minor interference to LAST ARMAGEDON. Jockey B. Richardson was advised to exercise more care.
 
 
Race 4 – PICKANJINNIE MUGGLETON BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 900m
 
Due to storm activity in the area start times for Race 4 and 5 were brought forward approximately 20 minutes.
 
 
AT THE HELM – Laid in near the 150m when placed under pressure inconveniencing FOR LOVE and STRALEX. Jockey B. Richardson advised the gelding had hung out for the majority of the race but once in the straight and placed under pressure had been inclined to lay in. Jockey B. Richardson was nonetheless severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR 131(a)   
 
FOR LOVE – Inconvenienced near the 150m.
 
STRALEX – Inconvenienced near the 150m
 
 
Race 5 – RASLIE CHADFORD QTIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1200
 
BUNDOORA – Fractious in the barriers and proved reluctant to load. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
HALCYON DAYS – Failed to take a competitive part in the race. Post-race veterinary examination failed to identify any abnormalities. Jockey, G. Steele advised the gelding did not handle the sand racing surface. Connections advised it would now be their intention to restrict the geldings to events with more suitable racing surfaces.
