As a result of the seemingly disappointing performance of the Filly a veterinary examination was performed with no abnormalities detected. Stewards spoke with Trainer M Kropp regarding the Filly’s performance today. Mr Kropp stated he was disappointed in the performance of the filly, the barrier draw was not ideal here as the track is softer on the inside and the horse may not have been suited by the conditions today. He further advised his instructions to the rider were to go forward. Stewards noted Mr Kropp’s explanation. NICK THE SKIP commenced to lay in momentarily placing SHERWOOD PRINCE in an awkward position at its heels for a stride or two. Stewards inquired into the incident with the outcome being that Appr Jockey S Champkin was reprimanded under AR131(a) for Careless Riding in that although her mount was laying in at that time, she could have done more to ease the pressure off SHERWOOD PRINCE ridden by Jockey H Richardson. When arriving at their decision stewards took into consideration the degree of carelessness, the location of the incident, Appr Champkin’s limited riding experience, her forth right evidence and her record.

Appr Jockey A Bakos reported to stewards that she was unable to hold the filly and she continued to over race for the majority of the event. A delay in returning to the mounting yard occurred as the filly had bled from both nostrils. The horse was subsequently vetted post-race and it was confirmed the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer C Smith was advised by Stewards that under AR79(4) the horse must not be trained for two (2) months and then start in a race for a period of three (3) months. And would be then required to gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to racing again. Stewards were contacted by Appr. Jockey A Bakos after today’s meeting advising that she had some soreness in her shoulder/s which may have been due to her mount in Race 9 CHESTERS ANGEL pulling hard and racing fiercely for the majority of the event. Ms Bakos was advised a Medical Certificate would be required prior to her riding again.
