QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA RACE CLUB SATURDAY 20th AUGUST 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 3 Dirt RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T Preston Stewards – B Cooke, W Glass Clerk of Scales – Stewards Judge – Club Veterinarian – Dr T McClymont Starter – J Harvey Photo finish Operator- B Lines GENERAL Jockey S Sweedman advised Stewards that due to mechanical difficulties he would be late to the course and would not be able to fulfil his earlier rides at today’s meeting. Stewards accepted Jockey Sweedmans’ explanation and rider replacements as per the Stewards Summary. The following riders were permitted to ride overweight by Stewards. Race 2 and 4- R Payne- +.5kg, Race 6- T Banks + .5kg, Race 7- S Sweedman +.5kg. As a result of the QAS officers having to attend to a Club Patron prior to the start of Race 3 the start times were amended as follows: Race 3- 1.55pm, Race 4- 2.38pm, Race 5- 3.20pm, Race 6- 3.50pm, Race 7- 4.20 pm, Race 8- 4.45pm. Race 1: RAYHAM ENGINEERING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 METRES DUSTINS- due to the timeframe between this and the gelding last run stewards ordered that a pre-race veterinary examination be conducted with the horse being passed fit to start. Was bumped by another runner shortly after the start and then tightened between runners shortly after beginning. HE IS LUCKY- travelled extremely wide during the early stages of the event with no cover. BEAN A BAD GIRL- declared a late scratching by Stewards at 11.47am due to no rider being available. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the following deductions were applied: Winner- SAVVY SONG- W-0c, Pl-5c, 2nd Place GAZZMAN- 13c, 3rd Place CANDY DAWN- 11c. BUBBLE BATH- presented to the Mounting yard by Trainer W Baker Stable Representative J Brand with the incorrect saddlecloth. Trainer W Baker was fined by Stewards the sum of $100 under AR106(1). GO THE PARROT- tailed off at the early stages and remained there for the majority. Due to the seemingly disappointing run the Mare did undergo a post-race veterinary examination with no abnormalities being detected. SHORT TAKES- travelled wide with no cover for the majority of the event. TIME FLIES- slow to begin. ROCKMYDOLLER- jumped awkwardly and bumped DUSTINS shortly after the start. Race 2: MPC KINETIC OPEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES The start of this event was delayed due to QAS having to examine Jockey R Payne. Ms Payne was passed fit to ride for the remainder of the program. The start of this event was further delayed due to the change in the saddlecloth of BUBBLE BATH. The amended start time was 1.15pm. EXPELIABLE- ran on strongly of the final stages. NEW ALLIANCE- began awkwardly and bumped another runner as the start was affected. Laid in under pressure over the final stages of the event. MINTED- Stewards spoke with Trainer P Webster regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding. Mr Webster stated the horse had stripped fitter since its last start and it had been working very well. The stable was confident of a forward showing today. He explained that the horse was out of its normal routine and not able to relax at the Eagle Farm and ran disappointingly. Stewards noted Mr Webster’s comments. Was bumped on jumping by NEW ALLIANCE. TOURMASTER- raced wide for the majority of the event. ARATULA-began awkwardly. TOECANARGIE MAN- raced keenly for the majority of the event. Race 3: LSA DEMOLTION BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1000 METRES BEGIN- jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. CULTURAL ICON- bumped by SKY TOUCH shortly after the start. REAL DRAMA- began awkwardly and dipped shortly after the start was affected. OXYGEN MAN- began awkwardly at the start and shifted in abruptly despite the best efforts of the rider to restrain the horse. SKY TOUCH- shifted in marginally after the start despite the efforts of the rider and bumped another runner. PLENTY OF TICKER- shifted in marginally shortly after the start. Race 4: DMAC ROMA CLASS B HANDICAP 1200 METRES BROKEN WINDOWS- tightened for room by another runner on jumping and lost ground. CRAIG AND HOFF- was bumped on jumping, then raced ungenerously during the early stages of the event. At a point approaching the 700m the saddle slipped on the gelding as a result it shifted out abruptly making it difficult for the rider to maintain control despite her best efforts. Appr Jockey O O’Donnell advised stewards that at the 600m she had lost an iron and shortly then after entering the home straight she removed her foot from the other iron in an effort to maintain some control as a result she was not in as position where she could test her mount out fully to the line. Stewards noted Appr O’Donnell’s explanation. YAMUMZA- momentarily steadied at the 700m point when CRAIG AND HOFF shifted out despite the best efforts of its rider. UNITARY- raced wide with no cover for the majority. SCHNITZ CREEK- began awkwardly. ZUIICHI- began awkwardly, began to weaken noticeably from the 1000m point and was uncompetitive for the remainder of the event. Trainer/ Rider L Miller advised Stewards the horse’s performance was disappointing and felt okay in running. He was of the opinion the horse may have resented the kick back and not suited today. He advised he and the connections would consider the horse’s future in coming days. Stewards requested that Trainer L Miller monitor the horse’s condition in coming days and advise Stewards of any abnormalities. EIL’N’ALL- began awkwardly, tightened BROKEN WINDOWS to its outside shortly after the start. LESLIE JAMES- began awkwardly, raced wide with no cover for the majority. Race 5: G J GARDNER HOMES QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 METRES PALATE- began awkwardly. PHIONAIX- began awkwardly then tightened another runner to the outside on jumping. COYNES ROAD- began awkwardly then travelled three- wide with no cover for the majority. REAL HUSSEY- tightened for room at the start when PHIONAIX began awkwardly. BOOMSHAKE THE ROOM- began awkwardly and tightened another runner to the outside shortly after the start. LASCO- fractious in the barriers then as the start was affected began awkwardly making contact with the outside barrier partition. Raced wide with no cover from the 1000m point. Shifted out under pressure over the final stages of the event. ITSALLIKAY- tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Race 6: WESTERN FOOD WHOLESALERS CLASS B HANDICAP 1640 METRES. ANACHEEVA LAD- A DONALD (a)- began awkwardly then travelled wide for the majority of the event. ORDERS- O KENDALL (a)- when passing the winning post for the first time improved onto heels and had to steady. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stewards were advised by Trainer W Bakers Stable Representative Ms J Brand that the horse had bled post-race. A subsequent Veterinary examination confirmed the horse had bled from both nostrils. Acting under AR79 (4) the horse shall not without the permission of Stewards: be trained, exercised, or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months; and then only after a satisfactory of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. Stewards subsequently spoke with Trainer W Baker who advised that it is likely to be retired but that he and connections will now consider the geldings racing future. Race 7: ROMA SANDS BENCHMARK 65 1640 METRES SALAZAR- slow to begin and then raced wide during the middle stages in an effort to obtain a forward position outside the leader. PHYLAVE- forced wide on jumping. ORDESA- began awkwardly. Race 8: MARANOA MOBILE WELDING OPEN HANDICAP 1640 METRES TYCOON ZIP- after leading for the majority it then weakened over the final stages of the event. Stewards questioned Apprentice Jockey S Willcock regarding her riding tactics on the gelding. She was advised to lead and the pace needed to be on as this tempo suit the horse. Stewards noted her comments. JOCHBERG- travelled wide for the majority finished strongly over the final 300m of the race and did lay in momentarily leaving the 150m point for a short distance.
