QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA RACE CLUB SUNDAY DAY 4th SEPTEMBER 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –DIRT/SAND WET RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards – W Glass, D MacDonaldClerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – Club.Veterinarian – Dr G Simcock, Dr W NasonSwab Attendants – VeterinarianStarter – J HarveyPhoto finish Operator- Z Tilley GENERAL The Surat Race Club’s meeting scheduled for the 3rd of September had been transferred to the Roma Turf Club due to the state of the Surat track today the 4th of September 2022. Race times were amended to the following: Race 1- 11.55am, Race 2- 12.25pm, Race 3- 12.55pm, Race 4- 1.30pm, Race 5- 2.00pm, Race 6- 2.30pm. The distances for Races 1 and 2 were amended by Stewards from a 1000m start to the 900m start due to surface water being located where the barriers would be placed in the 1000m chute. The distance for Race 3 was amended by the Club from 1400m to 1640m due to not having a 1400m chute. Appr Jockey S Champkin is not riding at today’s program due to other riding commitments. Rider replacements as per the Stewards Summary. Race 1: SURAT NEW ROYAL/ SURAT TYRE SERVICE/WAGGON WHEEL CAFÉ/RSL SURAT SUB BRANCH MAINDEN PLATE 1000 metres MISTER QUICKSTEP- Dipped shortly after the start. SINGLE RISE- Travelled wide for the majority of the event. Vetted post-race due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the Mare JACAYLA- Slow to begin, then raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. The rider then began to be eased out of the event from the 100m point. Stewards spoke with Jockey E Bell who advised this start was the horse’s first start for some time and may have needed the run and added the track conditions and kickback may not have suited the Mare today. Jockey Bell added that despite her efforts to improve in the race at approximately the 500m point it failed to respond to her riding. Stewards noted her explanation. The Mare was vetted post-race due to the seemingly disappointing performance with no abnormalities being detected. SHORT TALES- Travelled wide with no cover during the middle stages of the event. Laid in in under pressure in the home straight for a short distance. TUSCAN BELLE- Jumped with its head in the air at the start, then raced wide from the 300m for the remainder. Race 2: ACUMENTIS/DAPCO FARMING/MOONGOOL CHAROLAIS/MA &MA JOHNSTONE BENCHMARK 55 1000 metres EARLY PLEA- Trainer L Baker advised Stewards that due to no rider being available the horse would be declared a late scratching at 1.00pm on the 3/9/2022. BAUHINIA BEANS- Fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly as a result tightened several runners to the inside BARTOS- Jumped awkwardly and bumped the runner to the outside. HANGRY- Bumped by a runner to the outside shortly after the start. KING CONI- Began awkwardly, then tightened for room by runners to the outside. BAGGER TWISTIES- Began okay but was hampered shortly after the start by runners to the outside. STAYS ON TOUR- Tightened for room shortly after the start when BAUHINIA BEANS began awkwardly. Raced extremely wide with no cover from the home turn for the remainder of the event. AURIC GOLD- Tailed off during the early stages of the event. ZENIA- Travelled wide with no cover for the majority then raced extremely wide after entering the home straight. BLACK STREAM- Began awkwardly and bumped BARTOS then lost ground. Race 3: AGL SURAT DIGGERS CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1640 metres TYCOON ZIP- Trainer L Baker advised Stewards at 1.00pm on the 3/9/2022 the horse would be declared a late scratching due to no rider being available. RADIPOLE- Raced at the rear of the field from the 1200m point after being bumped by another runner. Ran on strongly over the final stages. COACH- Laid out and bumped RADIPOLE when entering the 1200m turn. ITSALLKAY- Raced wide with no cover for the majority of the event. BADGE OF GAMENESS- Stewards spoke with Trainer Representative Mr M Johnstone regarding the improved performance of the horse during this event. Mr Johnstone advised the horse has only had three runs for the stable and felt it may not have been suited by the Warra track and the conditions that day, Mr Johnstone added it had improved and worked well during the past week, he further added that it has a lot more to learn but the stable was confident of a forward showing today and thought the horse would be suited to the softer surface and the conditions. Stewards noted Mr Johnstone’s comments. Race 4: RURAL INSURANCE SERVICES/NUTRIEN AG/FORMOSA FARMING/REX PASTORAL OPEN HANDICAP 1200 metres MINTED- Was slow to begin. GALAPAGOS- Raced at the rear of the field during the early stages, then raced wide with no cover for the majority. Race 5: ST GEORGE MACHINERY CENTRE/AGN VET QTIS BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1200metres REAL HUSSEY- Jumped awkwardly with its head in the air at the start. STEPPING STONE- Began well and then began to drift back in the field at approximately the 300m point, eventually being eased out of the race over the final 100m. Stewards were advised by Trainer Mr S Iverson that the Mare had bled during the race. A Post-Race examination by the attending Vet revealed the horse had bled from both nostrils and acting under AR79(4) the horse would be subsequently banned from racing for a period of three months. LESLIE JAMES- Raced wide with no cover for the majority of the event. LA BELLE LA BELLE- Was slow to begin. SHE’S ABLAZING- Slow to begin then raced wide with no cover for the majority of the event. Race 6- QLD COTTON/TOM DARLINGTON TRANSPORT QTIS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1200M KOTA FLYER- Was slow to begin then raced in a forward position from the 600m travelled wide with no cover from that point for the remainder. AVISION- Began well and drifted back to the rear of the field from the 1000m. Raced wide with no cover from the 800m, began to improve into the event after entering the home straight. PLENTY OF TICKER- laid in under pressure during the final stages of the event.
