QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA RACE CLUB SATURDAY 18TH FEBRUARY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards – W GlassClerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – ClubVeterinarian – Dr T KirbyStarter – J HarveyPhoto Finish Operator- N Evans Race 1: SYDEVA HAULAGE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 900M Declaration of correct weight was delayed when connections of the 4th placegetter PHIONIX lodged an objection against 3rd placegetter JOEY JAWS alleging interference near the 100m. After taking evidence form the riders and connections of the runners involved and viewing the patrol footage Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference had cost PHIONIX in excess of the beaten margin and as such dismissed the protest and order correct weight on the Judges placings. PHIONIX- Leaving the 100m was taken in by another runner and placed in restricted room having to be checked/restrained/eased and lost ground. WAS MET- Due to the seemingly disappointing performance Stewards ordered that a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken. This examination revealed that the Mare was lame in the offside foreleg. Trainer B Waldron was advised that a Vet Certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again. EXPECT A HERO- At approximately the 75m point the rider had to take hold and ease due to pressure from the outside when PHIONAIX was dictated inward by JOEY JAWS. JOEY JAWS- Laid out during the early stages. After entering the home straight when leaving the 200m point shifted in and continued to shift in until approximately the 75m point taking PHIONAIX in and placing that runner in restricted room, before being obliged to check. EXPECT A HERO, which was racing to the inside of PHIONIX was also obliged to check and lost ground. Jockey D Baker subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) with his license to be suspended for a period of 13 days to commence on the 19th of February up to and including the 3rd of March 2023.Jky D Baker was advised of his right to a review in relation to the incident. GYPSY ROZAY- Began awkwardly and dipped shortly after the start. Race 2: SYDEVA HAULAGE GARY GERAN BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200M ZUMA- APPR - Raced wide for the majority. CUTTING LOOSE- Raced wide with no cover from the 500m point for the remainder of the event. IRISH RAIDER- Began awkwardly, blundered shortly after beginning and lost ground. Then raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Jky B Richardson to view the video footage of the start. Ms Richardson was satisfied the gelding was afforded a fair start. Trainer R Kerwin was advised by Stewards acting under the provision of AR75(1)(b) that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its barrier manners. VERY SOON- When leaving the mounting yard the mare made heavy contact to its left hip area with the gate post. A Pre-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and was passed fit to race. Race 3: BRANDON & ASSOCIATES REX & CATHERINE SMITH MEMORIAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M HE IS LUCKY- Dipped at the start, approaching the 800m had to ease off the heels of SUNNY DAY. JOKIC - Raced wide for the majority and after entering the home straight tended to lay out under pressure for a short distance. GO THE PARROT- Laid in at the 100m point and brushed the inside running rail. SUNNY DAY- Began awkwardly and jumped in the air the start. Race 4: SQS RODNEY HOFFMAN MEMORIAL CLASS B HANDICAP 1000M CRAIG AND HOFF- Bumped with another runner at the start. HAGGERSTON- Began awkwardly and bumped with CRAIG AND HOFF at the start. JET SPINNER- Began awkwardly. SCHNITZ CREEK- Slow to begin. STORMWATER- Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer W Hill was advised by Stewards acting under the provision of AR75(1)(b) that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its barrier manners. Race 5: SYDEVA HAULAGE VJ DAY BENDEMERE CUP OPEN PLATE 1000M DALTARO- Hung out for a short distance in the home straight before being corrected by the rider. MENINDEE- Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 800m point. EXCEED ROCK- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the best effort of the rider to improve its position. BONNIE EV- Raced wide for the majority.
