Race 1: SYDEVA HAULAGE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 900M

Declaration of correct weight was delayed when connections of the 4th placegetter PHIONIX lodged an objection against 3rd placegetter JOEY JAWS alleging interference near the 100m. After taking evidence form the riders and connections of the runners involved and viewing the patrol footage Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference had cost PHIONIX in excess of the beaten margin and as such dismissed the protest and order correct weight on the Judges placings.

PHIONIX- Leaving the 100m was taken in by another runner and placed in restricted room having to be checked/restrained/eased and lost ground.

WAS MET- Due to the seemingly disappointing performance Stewards ordered that a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken. This examination revealed that the Mare was lame in the offside foreleg. Trainer B Waldron was advised that a Vet Certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again.

EXPECT A HERO- At approximately the 75m point the rider had to take hold and ease due to pressure from the outside when PHIONAIX was dictated inward by JOEY JAWS.

JOEY JAWS- Laid out during the early stages.  After entering the home straight when leaving the 200m point shifted in and continued to shift in until approximately the 75m point taking PHIONAIX in and placing that runner in restricted room, before being obliged to check. EXPECT A HERO, which was racing to the inside of PHIONIX was also obliged to check and lost ground. Jockey D Baker subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) with his license to be suspended for a period of 13 days to commence on the 19th of February up to and including the 3rd of March 2023.Jky D Baker was advised of his right to a review in relation to the incident.

Trainer R Kerwin was advised by Stewards acting under the provision of AR75(1)(b) that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its barrier manners.
