QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB ROMA – SATURDAY, 24 JUNE 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – C. Warren, T. Preston & D. McDonald Clerk of Scales – D. KerwickJudge – B. LyonsVeterinarian – Dr W. NasonSwab Attendants – Dr W. NasonStarter – J. Harvey GENERAL As Apprentice B. Johnson was not riding at the meeting due to injury, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards race-day summary. Apprentice Johnson was advised she would require a medical clearance and a cognitive assessment prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 4 – Jockey T Banks +1kg (no other available rider) Jockey C Rogers +0.5kg Stewards declared the following runners late scratching’s when no suitable rider was available:Race 2 – KORUTO, REMLAPS LASS, EIL ‘N’ ALL, BUBBLE BATHRace 3 – AURIC GOLD, AURIC GOLD, UNITARY, HARAMAINRace 4 – BUSHIDO, ANGELS OF FENWAY, UNRESTRICTED Race 1: ROMA VETERINARY CLINIC Maiden Plate (1000m) BINDANGO – Bumped on jumping. Apprentice A. Graham reported the gelding laid in throughout the event.MARTY AWHA – Raced greenly down the back straight. PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping. Shifted in and away from heels before being momentarily crowded near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap (1000m) ALBION SQUARE (GB) – Blundered on jumping. Obliged to steady when racing in restricted room and bumping the inside running rail near the 200m. LANSBROOK – Began awkwardly. Bumped rounding the home turn. JOEY JAWS (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. KEENZAP – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, before shifting in near the 200m crowding ALBION SQUARE and CHAYSE ‘N’ MENARI. Apprentice D. Bennett was advised to exercise greater care as a result of this incident. Apprentice D. Bennett was further reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts fully out to the finish. OLD TOWN ROAD – Soon after the start was momentarily hampered between runners and obliged to ease off heels. CHAYSE 'N' MENARI – Soon after the start was momentarily hampered between runners and obliged to ease off heels. ROOTS'N'ROCKS – Bumped rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. OUR BOY BORRIS – Soon after the start was momentarily hampered and obliged to ease off heels. Laid in for majority of the event. HEART OF KINGS – Jockey T. Banks advised that after his mount blundered on jumping, the saddle shifted and subsequently placed him at some disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Laid in throughout proving difficult to ride out. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 3: ANGLICAN CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL BENCHMARK 45 Handicap (1200m)EASY COME – Laid in rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight. ITSALLKAY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. CAMAROSA – Began awkwardly. GHETTO – Jockey B. Appo was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. RASPBERRY BULLETS – Raced wide rounding the home turn. ALT EFF FOUR – Began awkwardly. When crossed near the 1000m commenced to lose ground after receiving heavy kickback. RIPOVA – Performed below market expectations. Trainer W. Baker could offer no explanation other than that he advised that connections would now consider the mare’s immediate racing future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 4: THE DAVID POWER AND UPSTREAM PRODUCTION SOLUTIONS OPEN Handicap (1200m) DYNAMIC VERSE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. PARKO – Bumped with SHOTGUN SONNY several times down the back straight when racing tight with that runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. JOCHBERG – Apprentice S. Wilcock advised that, in her opinion, her mount would derive a significant benefit from the run. MENINDEE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight. LAST ARMAGEDDON – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MUIRON – Bumped on jumping. Improved onto heels near the 1000m having to be shifted wider. PARTNERS – Shifted in abruptly leaving the 100m before being corrected by its rider. SHOTGUN SONNY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. Bumped with PARKO several times down the back straight when racing tight with that runner. EARLY PLEA – Reluctant to load. Began awkwardly when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail. On returning to the mounting yard, L. Miller was accidentally struck in the head by his mount. After being examined by QAS officers Jockey Miller was deemed fit to fulfil his remaining engagement. Race 5: ST JOSEPH'S NUDGEE COLLEGE BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1640m) The start of the event was slightly delayed whilst QAS officers attended to an oncourse patron. WAITAKERE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SALAZAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. On returning to scale, stopped abruptly, dislodging Apprentice D. Bennett. Apprentice Bennett was uninjured as a result of this incident. PACKAGE – Buffeted on jumping, becoming awkwardly placed on heels as a result. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. TOMBOY'S SPIRIT – Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly on heels near the 1000m and 800m. OUR SPIDER – Shifted out and bumped on jumping. PHYLAVE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey B. Appo advised his saddle slipped near the 800m placing him at a disadvantage at that point. ZUMA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Hung-out rounding the home turn.
