QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA RACE CLUB ROMA – SATURDAY 8, JULY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – W. Glass Clerk of Scales – Stewards Judge – B. Lyon Veterinarian – Dr T. KirbySwab Attendants – Dr T. KirbyStarter – S. Brassington GENERAL Upon arrival at the course, Stewards identified several sections of the 1000m chute which required remedial work. Once conducted, both Stewards and Jockeys were satisfied with the condition of the track. Stewards permitted the following overweights:Race 3 – L. Miller – 1/2kg (56.5kg)Race 4 – L. Miller – 1/2kg (56.5kg)Race 5 – L. Miller – 1/2kg (56.5kg) When Jockey B. Appo was indisposed following the running of Race 1, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements as per the race-day summary. Jockey B. Appo was advised a medical clearance would be required to riding again. Race 1: ROMA HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTRE QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) BILLY BUNYA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg which required first-aid treatment. Trainer G. Arnold was advised that veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. CLUB ROLLER – Very slow to begin. MARTY AWHA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. THE UPRISING – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. URBAN ARTIST – Declared a late scratching at 1:32pm when the gelding refused to load. Trainer C. Smith was advised the gelding would be required to trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:32pm:22 cents in the dollar for the Win17 cents in the dollar for the Place WORTHY MOVES – Correct weight was delayed allowing QAS officers to attend to Jockey B. Appo who was unwell upon pulling up. When it became apparent that Jockey B. Appo would be unable to weigh in, Stewards declared correct weight under AR 208(3)(b) as they were of the opinion the gelding had carried its allocated weight Jockey B. Appo was subsequently stood down for the remainder of the day, and was furthermore advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to racing again. HEROIC DESIRE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Performed below expectations. Apprentice S. McCann stated the filled didn’t handle the track conditions or kickback. Race 2: GJ GARDNER ROMA RATINGS BAND 0-60 HANDICAP (900m) BARTOS - Began very awkwardly and was subsequently slow to begin. KARBORS – Hampered on jumping. ZENIA – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn. EIL ‘N’ ALL – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Hung-out rounding the home turn. CHAYSE ‘N’ MENARI – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Dislodged Apprentice R. Thornburn harmlessly passing the winning post. Performed below expectations. Apprentice R. Thornburn could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. OUR BOY BORRIS – Began only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer C. Baker reported the gelding would subsequently be retired, nonetheless she was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). HARAMAIN – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Race 3: COMMONWEALTH HOTEL OPEN PLATE (1200m) ANGELS OF FENWAY – Declared a late scratching at 2:37pm when the gelding refused to load. Trainer B. Waldron was advised the gelding would be required to trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 2:37pm:3 cents in the dollar for the Win3 cents in the dollar for the Place BUSHIDO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Performed below expectations. Apprentice S. McCann stated the gelding failed to let down when placed under pressure. FAB’S COWBOY – Performed below expectations. Apprentice T. Noble stated the gelding felt one-paced throughout the event and became under pressure approaching the 600m. MUIRON – Began only fairly. SHOTGUN SONNY – Began awkwardly. Race 4: QLD COUNTRY MEATS / WEST TECH SYSTEMS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1200m) HEAT – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. PRIDEOFUSALL – Performed below expectations. Apprentice D. Bennett stated the gelding hung severely throughout the early stages, and failed to let down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer P. Webster was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. ZUMA – Inconvenienced and obliged to steady approaching the 200m when PHEEBLE’S SPIRIT shifted ground. PHEEBLE’S SPIRIT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Shifted in approaching the 200m, tightening ZUMA. Apprentice S. McCann was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to stop and straighten her mounts sooner. Race 5: LOMUR CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1640m) SALAZAR – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. IMPACTFUL – Obliged to shift out and away from heels when BLUE CORNER laid in abruptly. PACKAGE – Hung-out under pressure over the concluding stages. BRETON – Apprentice T. Leslight advised the gelding would be better suited over further distances. PHYLAVE – Shifted in momentarily approaching the 1200m. Jockey B. Newport was advised to exercise greater care. BLUE CORNER – Tightened rounding the 1200m when PHYLAVE shifted in momentarily. Hung-out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Shifted in approaching the 200m when not fully clear of IMPACTFUL. Apprentice S. McCann was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a). LITTLE JERRY – Began awkwardly. SAW THAT COMING – Raced keenly in the early stages. Performed below expectations. Jockey M. Butler reported the gelding took charge in the early stages which proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
