QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER 2023 WEATHER: FINE TRACK- SAND RATING- GOOD RAIL: TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards – F Hartford Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – T PulsfordVeterinarian – Dr G SimcockStarter – J HarveyPhoto finish Operator- N Evans GENERAL Race 1: BARRY RICHARDSON MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 1000M NYTHE- Was slow into stride and raced at the rear of the field for some distance. Began ti improve into the race at the 600m point and ran home well over the final stages of the event despite racing wide over the concluding stages. ROGUE ARTIST- Began awkwardly. CATALYSE-Began awkwardly. GOLDIE’S POWER- The start of the race was delayed due to the bridle on this runner having to be refitted. Dipped shortly after the start was affected. RACE 2: MCDONALDS MCDELIVERY QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000M BEST SIDE- Dipped at the start. ROWDASH- Laid out during the middle stages of the event before being corrected by the rider. WHISKEY ROW-Raced wide in the home straight. MISTREY EMPEROR- Raced wide for the majority of the event. ULTRA INSTINCT- Laid in when under pressure in the home straight. WHITE CHOCOLATE- Began to weaken shortly after entering the home straight. Race 3:MCDONALDS ROMA OPEN HANDICAP 1000M NICK THE SKIP- Jumped out shortly after the start brushing COYNES ROAD. TYCOON ZIP-Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. DEFERENCE- Was slow to begin. Raced wide outside the leader for the majority with no cover. COYNES ROAD- Began awkwardly when making contact with the outside barrier partition. Bumped slightly by NICK THE SKIP shortly after the start, then shifted out and bumped TYCOON ZIP after the start., BONNIE EV- Raced wide for the majority of the event. REAL HUSSEY- Lost a near side rear-leg place approaching the 800m point in the event. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority despite the best efforts of the rider to improve into the event. Race 4: RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITY CLASS B HANDICAP (1200m) FIGURE IT OUT- Slow to begin. FOREVER INVINCIBLE- Bumped by another runner at the start. SMIKO- Began awkwardly when jumping out and making contact with FOREVER INVINCIBLE. Post Race Veterinary examination was ordered by Stewards due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse, with no abnormalities were detected. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr C Smith regarding the below market expectation performance of the horse. Mr Smith advised the run was disappointing and would spell the horse. HOT SUNDAE- Raced wide for the majority of the event. JATOBI-Began awkwardly making contact with the outside barrier partition as the start was affected. PHEEBLE’S SPIRIT- Raced wide for the majority. INHISTIME- Made heavy contact with the mounting yard fence when entering the yard. A pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken which revealed some lameness of the off hind leg. Acting under the provision of AR 75 Stewards acting under veterinary advice subsequently declared the gelding a late scratching at 3.22pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on INHISTIME be refunded with the following deductions to apply- Winner PHEEBLE’S SPIRIT- 0c win, 4c place, the 2nd placed horse FOREVER INVINCIBLE- 4c place and the 3rd placed runner BOSS BANDIT 6c place. Trainer Mr C Storch as advised by Stewards that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse’s next start. Race 5: THE MACCA’S RUN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1640m) WAITAKERE- Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr P Edwards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding today. Mr Edwards advised the horse had pulled up well and despite this he was intending to spell the horse. He then gave stewards an undertaking that should the gelding exhibit signs of injury or illness in coming days he would notify Stewards. CAFFREY- Laid in when placed under pressure for a short distance when approaching the 600m before being corrected by the rider.
