STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 30 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Sand (Soft) RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – T Preston GENERAL Prior to the commencement of the race meeting Stewards, along with a delegation of senior riders inspection a section of track near the 1000m start following heavy rainfall over the preceding days. Following the inspection minor remedial works were carried out and the section of track was deemed suitable for racing. Race 1: WHITE CLAW MAIDEN PLATE 1000m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the official photo finish. After viewing the photo Stewards were satisfied and correct weight was declared on the Judges placings. GUTHO- Momentarily crowded when laying out near the 250m. ROGUE ARTIST- After beginning on terms with the field, was under pressure in the early stages to maintain its position and ultimately settled into a trailing position throughout. Raced wide for the majority. LET’S GO THEN- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. MOROCCAN MOON- Proved difficult to load. Trainer G Richardson was advised a warning would be placed against the gelding as a result. Laid in marginally near the 250m. Laid out on entering into the home straight. ARTOPIA- Bumped on jumping, before shifting in and bumping a further runner. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some general muscle soreness. LADY CASTLEDINE- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide on jumping. App T Leslight advised that, in his opinion, the filly would derive a significant benefit from the run being first up after a lengthy spell. QUEEN’S ARMS- Raced wide rounding the home turn. Race 2: HYOKETSU LEMON QTIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 900m KUNNESE- Bumped on entering the home straight. CATALYSE- Laid in on entering the home straight and bumped. Laid in under pressure down the running. ONE LAST TRICK- Bumped passing the 700m. On returning to scale Jockey N Evans advised that his surcingle had broken soon after the start, however this had not placed him at any disadvantage during the event. ONE TUNE- Slow to begin. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer C Smith noted that, in his opinion, the step up in class in todays event from the geldings first start was a telling factor in the performance. SEQUACIOUS- Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly soon after tightening another runner. Bumped passing the 700m. Laid in and raced wide for the majority. PARA PARK UP- Tightened soon after the start, having to be restrained and lost ground before being shifted wider. Race 3: HAN 3.5 OPEN PLATE 900m COAT OF ARMS- Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. COLHOUN- Slow into stride. MUIRON- Slow into stride. TOURMASTER- Trainer W Pugsley advised that, in his opinion, as the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit being first up from a lengthy spell, adding further that the distance of todays event was shorter than the geldings best. Race 4: BOB ASHNEY MEMORIAL OPEN HANDICAP 1200m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards and connections to view the official photo for 3rd place, which was declared a dead-heat between PESHWA and REAL HUSSEY, as well as footage of the start to confirm PARKO had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the photo finish Stewards and connections were satisfied with the Judges result and after viewing footage of the start Stewards were satisfied that PARKO had been afforded a fair start and it was simply the manners of the gelding which had resulted in its beginning awkwardly and unseating App T Orr. As such, correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. NICK THE SKIP- Slow into stride. PARKO- Stewards permitted App T Orr to be substituted as rider of the gelding after App A Graham had been mistakenly declared. Began very awkwardly and unseated App T Orr before galloping the circumference of the track riderless. Trainer W Baker was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result of the incident. App Orr was uninjured in the incident. THE GENERAL- Shifted in and away from a riderless horse leaving the 100m. Raced wide for the majority. PESHWA- Began awkwardly and was slow to begin, losing ground as a result and trailing the field for the majority. Laid in under pressure down the running. HOLIDAY DREAMS- Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: MPK/SANTOS CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m BUGDEN- Jockey B Richardson advised that her mount, having its first start at the track, resented the kickback in the early stages and resented the sand racing surface. Bumped passing the 100m. CLUB ROLLER- Raced wide for the majority. SISTER MARGUERITE- Reluctant to load. Momentarily fractious in the barrier prior to the start. Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. OPAQUELY- Bumped passing the 100m. Raced wide for the majority. Following the running of the event Jockey S Apthorpe was examined by QAS officers, with consideration to the QRIC concussion policy, after being struck in the face by his mounts head, in the mounting yard. Jockey Apthorpe was declared fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Race 6: XXXX/CLUB HOTEL CLASS 3 PLATE 1200m HOT SUNDAE- Trainer W Baker was reprimanded for negligence under the provisions of AR227(a) in that having the gelding to race without the tongue-tie could have resulted in a breach of AR206(1). Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. COUNTRY BOYZ- Raced wide for the majority. LIP SIP SUK- Bumped on jumping and taken wider becoming awkwardly placed on heels, having to be restrained and lost ground as a result. Laid in under pressure down the running. HOT SUNDAE- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. SODBUSTER- Bumped and taken wider, bumping with a further runner. Raced wide for the majority.
