Race 1: ST JOSEPH'S NUDGEE COLLEGE QTIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
ESJAY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 300m, shifted out and bumped with JOHNNY UTAH. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SON OF BEEBEE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Improved onto heels near the 900m and obliged to steady.
 
JOVIAL KID – Apprentice M. Goring was fined $200 under AR143(14)(a) for claiming 2kg of his 3kg allowance when no other suitable apprentices were available. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted Apprentice Goring’s poor recent record in relation to the rule. Began awkwardly.
 
JOHNNY UTAH – Raced wide and without cover until the 600m. Approaching the 200m bumped and carried wider when ESJAY laid out.

OLY BOOM – From the wide barrier shifted behind runners in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LIQUEUR GOLD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
MY DAY – Slow to begin. Hung-out throughout the event proving difficult to ride-out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer W. Baker was severely reprimanded under AR165(3) for removing the gelding from the race-course prior to 30 minutes from the event which necessitated the gelding being bought back to the race-course. Trainer W. Baker was further advised a warning would be place on the gelding for its racing manners.
 
THE STORM – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure rounding the home-turn and in the home straight.
 
THE DEVASTATOR – Stewards permitted Jockey M. Butler to be declared the replacement rider when Apprentice B. Youngberry was unable to make the weight of the gelding and no other apprentices were available. Apprentice Youngberry was reprimanded under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted this was Apprentice Youngberry’s first offence. Raced keenly when being restrained to obtain a position with cover near the 900m.
 
 
Race 2: SOMERVILLE HOUSE MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
 
GUTHO – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HELL APPROACHING – Bumped on jumping.
 
NYTHE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 100m, obliged to steady from heels when MISTER shifted out.
 
THE UPRISING – Slow to begin. Bumped soon after jumping.
 
HEROIC OSCAR – Began awkwardly. Bumped soon after jumping. When questioned regarding her tactics adopted in the early stages, particularly the decision to race extremely wide, Jockey B. Richardson stated it became apparent in the early stages that the gelding, which was racing on sand for the first occasion, resented the kick-back and failed to travel. Subsequently, she elected to direct her mount outwards to avoid majority of the runners to her inside and in her opinion, afford her mount to race on better ground. She further added the gelding found the line somewhat well and would be better suited over further distances. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
MISTER – Shifted in approaching the 100m when not fully clear of NYTHE who was obliged to steady. Apprentice O. Webb was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
SQUAMISH – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
GENERAL JETBALL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARANOA METEOR – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
QUEEN NINA (NZ) – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 3: THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL & NRG SERVICES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
BALTIMORE BULLET – Approaching the 100m, raced in restricted room for several strides when MANIC LIGHT shifted out and TRANSCELTIC laid in simultaneously. Apprentice M. Goring was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride out to the finish. In assessing the matter, Stewards acknowledged that the gelding had maintained its fourth place finish, however were of the opinion that Apprentice Goring’s vigour was far below the expected standard.
 
BIG SKY COUNTRY – Began awkwardly and bumped. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Trainer P. Webster stated that the gelding, which was first-up was not suited by the heavy impost it had been allocated.
 
TRANSCELTIC – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BAG OF WHITT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Jockey A. Spinks reported the mare was inclined to hang-in throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild foot soreness.
 
MANIC LIGHT – Shifted out under pressure near the 100m placing BALTIMORE BULLET in restricted room for several strides. Apprentice J. Golden was advised to exercise greater care. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MUIRON – Slow to begin.
 
CATALYSE – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey B. Newport stated the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action throughout the race. A post-race revealed the gelding to be tying up behind which required treatment. Trainer W. Baker was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
JOEY JAWS (NZ) – When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, Trainer C. Storch advised the gelding had previously performed well early in the preparation, however had since displaying mild signs of a virus and subsequently had undergone treatment and had since responded well. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
 
Race 4: ROMA VETERINARY CLINIC & GR PRODUCTION SERVICES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP         (1640m)
 
SALAZAR – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Tailed the field throughout the event. Trainer C. Rogers was advised that given the mare’s extremely poor record, SALAZAR would now be required to obtain 3 consecutive satisfactory barrier certificates prior to being permitted to race again. Trainer C. Rogers advised that consideration would be given to the mare’s immediate racing future, indicating it would most likely now leave the stable.
 
SAINT MARTIN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VALENTINO TEASE – Bumped on jumping. Trainer L. Mawn advised that in his opinion, the mare which was having its first start on a sand surface, failed to handle the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FORGED IN STONE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Jockey H. Phillips advised in her opinion the gelding failed to handle backing-up from its recent racing.
 
MR DEMOLITION – Raced wide and without cover from the 1000m.
 
INHISTIME – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: ROMA GAS SUPPLIES RUGBY SLIPPER OPEN HANDICAP (1200m)
 
NICK THE SKIP – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE GENERAL (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
UNRESTRICTED – Stewards permitted Apprentice M. Mankelow to be declared the replacement rider of the gelding when Apprentice M. Goring was unable to make weight. Stewards accepted the explanation of Apprentice M. Goring in relation to being unable to fulfill his engagement. Approaching the 1000m shifted in when not fully clear of LIGHTFAST who was obliged to ease. Apprentice M. Mankelow was advised to exercise greater care.
 
HANOVER SQUARE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VILLADEN (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m, shifted out when not fully clear of SON OF SAMPSON who was obliged to ease and shift out. Jockey B. Newport was advised to exercise greater care.
 
LIGHTFAST – Approaching the 1000m obliged to ease when UNRESTRICTED shifted in.
 
SON OF SAMPSON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m obliged to ease and shift outwards to obtain clear running when VILLADEN shifted ground.
 
COYNES ROAD – Began awkwardly.
 
BONNIE EV – Declared a late scratching at 1:36pm after refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all monetary investments placed on BONNIE EV be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st – 5c win, 5c place.
2nd – 6c place
3rd – 5c place

Trainer W. Baker was advised that the mare would now be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
LIMITED REALITY – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey A. Spinks stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the early and middle stages however commenced to give ground abruptly approaching the 400m and for this reason desisted from riding the gelding out with his usual vigour. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer W. Baker was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
ALCAMO BEACH – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 6:ANGLICAN CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
PACKAGE – When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice L. O’Donnell advised that the gelding resented racing inside of runners and the resultant kick-back. She further added in her opinion, the gelding would be better suited over further distances.
 
CAMAROSA – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
LEGISLATE – Tightened between runners on jumping and blundered.
 
SILVANNA'S SONG – Trainer P. Webster was severely reprimanded under LR36(6) for failing to scratch the mare from its dual engagement by the prescribed time. Stewards noted his good record in relation to the rule. When questioned regarding the performance, Trainer P. Webster stated in his opinion, that the mare, which was first-up was not suited by the heavy weight impost. He further added the mare was better suited when able to lead and dictate in events easier than on this occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MURPHY'S RIVER – Bumped the running rail for several strides near the 1000m when racing in restricted room. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bowed its off-fore tendon and a suspected suspensory injury which required veterinary treatment. Trainer W. Baker was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to trialling satisfactorily it to return to racing.
 
SCOTTISH FARMER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Obliged to shift wider off heels near the 100m to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISS DARTMOUTH (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – Slow to begin.
 
ROCKMYDOLLER – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Apprentice S. Zoljan advised in her opinion, the wide run proved detrimental to the gelding’s finishing efforts.
 
HARAMAIN – Began awkwardly.
