GENERAL
 
Due to early morning showers with the subsequent deterioration of the integrity of the racing surface Stewards after consultation with Racing Queensland and Club Officials elected to amend the starting time for Race 1 to 2.00pm and the remaining races to be run at the following times: Race 2- 2.45pm, Race 3- 3.30 pm, Race 4- 4.00pm and Race 5- 4.45pm. This allowed for the Club to continue to perform remedial work between races and throughout the day. As a result of this action the meeting was able to be continue without incident.
 
 
Race 1: COMMONWEALTH HOTEL ROMA MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
 
 HELL APPROACHING- S SWEEDMAN- Fractious in the barriers, bumped with another runner shortly after the start. Stewards ordered that a post-race Vet examination be undertaken. This examination revealed a mild laceration and hematoma to the upper gums, mild bruising and skin off the left eyelid and right elbow. No Vet treatment was recommended, and no Vet Certificate was required. As a result, acting under the provision of AR 75(1)(b) Stewards advised Trainer Ms R Kerwin that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its barrier manners.
 
JOHNNY UTAH- Slow to begin,
 
ROGUE ARTIST- Bumped with HELL Approaching shortly after the start.
 
MADAM ROCK- Slow to begin.
 
LUMINOUS WATERS- Slow into stride and tended to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2 ROMA HOME IMPROVEMENT BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000m
 
LEGISLATE-Fractious in the barriers. Shortly after the start Jky B Richardson was forced to take hold and shift in as a result of LAYLAH’S WISH beginning awkwardly and veering in towards her mount. This resulted in LEGISLATE losing ground and racing at the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
 
SILVANNA’S SONG- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ARTOPIA- Began awkwardly when it jumped in the air as the gates opened and lost ground.
 
LAYLAH’S WISH- Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and veered inward shortly after the start was affected. As a result, the mare raced wide and at the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the riders’ best efforts to improve. Stewards acting under the provision of AR75(1)(b) advised Trainer Ms M Hill that due to the racing manners of the horse it would be required to participate in a Trial prior to racing again.
 
Race 3: GJ GARDNER ROMA OPEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
KEENZAP- Began awkwardly and raced extremely wide for the majority of the event.
 
MISS HOFF- Began awkwardly. Shortly after entering the home straight in an effort to improve raced extremely wide for the remainder of the event.
 
BALTIMORE BULLET- Began awkwardly.
 
Race 4: LOMUR CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1200m
 
ASHIKO BAY- Slow to begin. Had to ease off heels and was held up for a short distance approaching the 600m.
 
DERBARI- After hearing submissions from Trainer Ms C Rogers stewards accepted her comments and declared the gelding a late scratching at 3.00 pm due to the state of the racing surface at today’s meeting. No deductions to apply as betting had not commenced on the event.
 
BLERIOT- Slow to begin.
 
INHISTIME-As a result of OLY BOOM and INHISTIME refusing to be loaded Stewards ordered that both runners be declared a late scratching at 4.02pm and Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on both horses prior to 4.02pm to be refunded in full less the following deductions to be applied- 1st – TIJUANA TWO STEP- 0c, Pl 2c, 2nd SECRETLY BETTER– 10c, and 3rd SCOTTISH FARMER- 8c. After consultation with Trainer Mr C Storch Stewards acting under the provision of AR 75(1)(B) placed a Warning on the horse for its pre-race manners.
 
OLY BOOM- Declared a late scratching by order of Stewards due to its failure to be loaded. Stewards acting under the provision of AR 75(1)(B) advised Trainer Mr W Baker the horse would require a barrier pass prior to racing again.
 
JOVIAL KID- Laid in for the majority of the event.
 
SOMBOR SHUFFLE- Laid in during the early stages before being corrected by the rider. Raced wide and at the rear of the event for the majority of the event.
 
Race 5: DS PAINTING/LJ HOOKER BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1640m
 
 
THE GENERAL- Began awkwardly and tended to lay out throughout the event. Raced wide for the majority shortly after entering the home straight began to weaken finishing towards the rear of the field. Trainer Mr C Smith reported to Stewards that after the horse cooled down it suffered a bilateral bleed. Stewards ordered that a post-race vet examination be undertaken which subsequently confirmed the gelding suffered a bilateral bleed in running and Stewards acting under the provision of AR 79(1) advised Mr Smith that a mandatory 3 x month ban would be placed on the horse.
 
PICKO ROCKS- Slow into stride shortly after the start.
 
BARCLAY’S BANK- Stewards spoke with Appr Jky O O’Donnell regarding her tactics on the winner. She stated her riding instructions were to obtain the lead. She further stated that she was surprised of how easily her mount got and was able to extend its lead throughout the race. Stewards accepted her comments.
 
HALLSIDE HOT STUFF- Bumped the nearside barrier partition on jumping. Laid in under pressure and began to weaken after entering the home straight. Stewards spoke with Trainer W Baker, regarding the run of the gelding. He advised he was disappointed in the run and advised the gelding wasn’t suited by the track conditions today. Stewards spoke again with Mr Baker on the 14th of July 2024 which confirmed the horse had pulled up well and showed no adverse effects of the run.
 
SAINT MARTIN- Pre-race Veterinary examination undertaken with no abnormalities and passed fit to race. Raced wide for the majority.
 
PACKAGE- Slow to begin.
