QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROMA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 15 FEBRUARY 2025 WEATHER: FINE TRACK RATING- SAND/ HEAVY RAIL: TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards Panel– W Glass. GENERAL Nil Race 1: BEAUVIEW QUARRY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 900M MISS HOFF- Slow into stride, drifted back during the early stages and raced at the rear of the field for the majority. HOLIDAY DREAMS- Raced wide for the majority of the event. JOEY JAWS- Bumped at the start and lost ground and momentum when MISSISSIPPI MORN shifted in abruptly shortly after the start. FROZEN PRINCE- Raced wide in the home straight. MISSISSIPPI MORN-Shifted in abruptly after the start resulting in another runner being bumped. Stewards inquired into the incident and no blame could be afforded to the rider Appr Jky J Devine. Stewards acting under the provision of AR75 (1) advised Trainer Mr R Williams was that a Warning would be placed on the horse. SAY WHEN SUTTY- After leaving the mounting yard the horse galloped off with rider having difficulty in restraining the mare. Stewards ordered a pre-race veterinary examination be undertaken with the mare passed fit to race. Weakened badly from the 300m point. The race day Veterinarian conducted a post-race examination with no abnormalities being detected. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr W Baker who advised the mare pulled up well after the event with no concerns. Race 2 REX & CATHERINE SMITH MEMORIAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M MUMMIFICATION- Slow to begin. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. LIPSTICK LIES- Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority then extremely wide shortly after entering the home straight over the final stages. MODISTE- Approaching the 700m point elected to shift in resulting in WINDORAH being inconvenienced as a result Stewards acting under the provision of AR131() issued a Reprimand to Appr Jky C Stuart for careless riding. WINDORAH- Inconvenienced at the 700m point when another runner shifted in. SHARALANDA- On route to the barriers the filly harmlessly dislodged the rider Appr Jky D Bennett. A pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken with the horse being declared a late scratching at 2.20pm by order of Stewards acting on Vet advice. The examination revealed some lameness in the near hind leg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the filly prior to 2.20pm be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply: MODISTE- W-0c and Pl. 6c, WINDORAH- 2nd- 4c, PIRATE SHIP- 3rd pl- 10c. Trainer Mr W Pugsley gave an undertaking that should the horse’s condition deteriorate in coming days he would notify Stewards. Mr Pugsley notified Stewards on the 16th of February 2025 and advised the horse travelled well with no signs of lameness. Stewards noted his comments. Race 3: SYDEVA HAULAGE BENDEMERE CUP OPEN PLATE 1000M HURTLE-Raced at the rear of the field before improving into the race from the 400m, ran on well over the final stages of the event. MAMARAGAN- Slow to begin. LILY ALLEZ- On returning to scales Appr Jky J Devine advised the Mare wasn’t suited by the racing conditions today and was somewhat disappointing. Stewards noted her comments. FLANK SPEED- Held up approaching the 800m point. On returning to scales Appr Jky weighed in at .8kg over the allocated weight. Stewards acting under the provision of AR211(1) issued a severe reprimand to Appr Bennett for this breach of the rule. MAGICAL SLIPPER-Raced wide with cover for the majority. Improved into the race from the 400m and ran on well over the concluding stages. MISS HOFF- APPR L O’DONNELL Race 4: BRYAN PAYNE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200m BAG OF WHITT- Raced wide for the majority. AREYA- TUCHUZY- Bumped by SIMPLY TINA shortly after the start and then bumped again heavily by DUSTINS which shifted in. Raced wide with no cover. PARISAN ROCKSTAR- Due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding today, Stewards ordered a post-race vet examination be undertaken. This examination failed to detect any abnormalities. WHITE CHOCOLATE- Slow to begin, raced at the rear of the field for some distance before improving into the race from the 400m. DUSTINS- Shortly after the start the gelding shifted in heavily bumping AREYA TUCHUZY. Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) Severely reprimanded Jky J Golden in that he shifted in when not sufficiently clear of AREYA TUCHUZY which as a result become unbalanced. SIMPLY TINA- Shortly after the start bumped with another runner resulting in the horse becoming unbalanced and lost ground. Race 5: RODNEY HOFFMANN MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1640M AURELIAN BLANC- Raced wide for the majority. MUIRON- Laid in during the early stages of the event. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority. SAINT MARTIN- Raced wide with no cover for the majority of the event. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr W Baker regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding at today’s meeting. Mr Baker advised that he had changed the horses gear by removing the blinkers since his last start and he had been working. He had been disappointing at his previous runs but thought he would be suited by the racing surface here today. Stewards noted his comments. LEGISLATE- Over raced during the early stages of the event. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
