Race 1: Yalumba Wines Class 2 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Incitement 2nd – Rapt In Rhythm 3rd – Conahy 4th - Aequitas

The start was delayed slightly when CONAHY (G. Geran) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

STRATUM FORCE (J. Taylor) began awkwardly and after being ridden along, then commenced to overrace in the early stages.

Leaving the 800m, RAPT IN RHYTHM (N. Evans) was inclined to hang in and had to be steadied from the heels of FIVESTAR LASS (P. Schmidt).

CONAHY (G. Geran) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FIVESTAR LASS, apprentice P. Schmidt reported that whilst the mare travelled well in the early stages of the event, the horse failed to respond to her riding as anticipated and, in her opinion, was disappointing. Trainer D. Murphy agreed with apprentice Schmidt’s comments, adding that it was now his intention to give FIVESTAR LASS a short let up from racing. A post-race veterinary examination of FIVESTAR LASS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Stewards questioned trainer D. Wheeler regarding the improved performance of INCITEMENT. Mr Wheeler stated that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle the slow conditions of its 2 previous starts, and as such it was his intention now not to start the horse on rain affected surfaces in future. He further added that horse had pleased him in its trackwork leading up to today’s race, and that the addition of blinkers and tongue-tie to the gear of INCITEMENT were also factors in the forward showing. The explanation was noted.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on CONAHY, G. Geran stated it was his intention to ride the horse in a forward position with cover. He added that after beginning only fairly from its wide barrier he endeavoured steady the gelding approaching the 800m to obtain a position closer to the fence, however CONAHY then commenced to overrace and as a result was obliged to race 3 wide. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 2: XXXX 4yo & Upwards Maiden H'cap - 1100m
1st – Whatya Reckon 2nd – Bucket Of Cash 3rd – Lady Gower 4th – Moon Lady

Trainer P. Conomos was fined $50 for presenting DUSTETTE late to the enclosure.

DAYJUR’S MAGIC (C. Priest) and STARSPUN (W. D'Avila) were slow to begin.

MYELLIOT (P. Schmidt) and FIRST PIPEMAJOR (G. Geran) began awkwardly.

LADY GOWER (C. Kearney) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with its outside barrier gate.

Shortly after the start when being ridden along, LADY GOWER shifted in, making contact with MYELLIOT on 2 occasions prior to the 800m.

STALWART WOMAN (J. Hoopert), BUCKET OF CASH (B. Wallace) and FIRST PIPEMAJOR (G. Geran) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MYELLIOT, apprentice P. Schmidt stated that whilst its was the intention to lead on the gelding today, her mount was challenged in the lead by LADY GOWER and MYELLIOT was reluctant to come back when being steadied. She added however that whilst being pressured, in her opinion, MYELLIOT travelled comfortably in the lead. P. Schmidt further added that she was disappointed that the gelding did not respond better to her riding over the concluding stages. Trainer D Schmidt agreed with apprentice Schmidt ‘s assessment and advised stewards that it would now be his intention to send the horse for a spell, and will experiment with a gear change for its next start. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: Contour Consulting Engineering QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st – Angelus Belle 2nd – Rogertehredneck 3rd – Rockin Party 4th – Just Pink

Stewards permitted ANGELUS BELLE to race in winkers and not blinkers as advertised in the race book after T. Sears declared that ANGELUS BELLE had never raced in blinkers and raced in winkers at its last start at Dalby on 27 November 2010. An announcement to this effect was given to the track broadcast. At a subsequent inquiry, it was substantiated that ANGELUS BELLE did in fact wear blinkers at its previous start and as a result of submissions from Mr Sears did race in incorrect gear today. Mr Sears pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140B and was fined the sum of $300.

The start of this race was delayed when INFIRST was presented to the enclosure without its advertised gear, necessitating gear having to be added to the horse and as a result arriving late at the barriers. Trainer P. Perkins was fined $100 for presenting INFIRST to the inclosure with incorrect gear.

MISS DRAGONESS (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.

ROCKIN PARTY (J. Taylor) and PERNESE (K. Wharton) began awkwardly.

Near the 900m, MONASKI (C. Priest) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room when racing between ANGELUS BELLE (B. Richardson) and INFIRST (B. Wallace), both of which shifted ground slightly.

MISS DRAGONESS commenced to hang out leaving the 800m and shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer K. Deacon was advised that MISS DRAGONESS must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

W. D’Avila, rider of JUST PINK, dropped his whip near the 300m.

Leaving the 300m, TOY JET (M. Hellyer) shifted out under pressure, inconveniencing PERNESE.

Near the 200m, KALINGA BELLE (G. Geran) shifted in under pressure, resulting in INFIRST having to be steadied and shift in, inconveniencing MONASKI (C. Priest). G. Geran, rider of KALINGA BELLE, was advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

Passing the 150m, TAMACA ROSA (J. Holder) became unbalanced and shifted out.

INFIRST, ANGELUS BELLE, KALINGA BELLE,, SPANISH FIESTA (M. Hughes) and ROGERTHEREDNECK (T. Huxham) raced wide for the majority of the race.

EDDIE RAPIDO (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

MAJESTIC RULER (L. Rolls) began awkwardly.

ROSA DELAGO (D. Griffin) was inclined to race ungenerously and hung out in the early stages.

Near the 50m, NOISY SCOOTER (W. D'Avila) was momentarily crowded for room between STAR OF OMBRA (K. Fuji) and LUCYLOUISE (R. Wiggins), which shifted out under pressure, and then shortly after LUCYLOUISE shifted in becoming awkward on the heels of IN HIS IMAGE, which shifted out under pressure.

NASSAVETTE (M. Hellyer) commence to hang in when placed under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out.

NOISY SCOOTER raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of IN HIS IMAGE, trainer A. Jones advised stewards that in his opinion the horse’s recent runs had not been poor performances, and the circumstances surrounding its form when it finished 11th of 11 at the Sunshine Coast cushion track on 10 April 2011 when that meeting was transferred from the grass to the synthetic surface, where the horse, in his opinion, did have excuses for that particular run, and was noted by the stewards on the day. He further added that whilst IN HIS IMAGE did rise in grade today, it dropped significantly in weight, which he believed was a telling factor as the horse does perform better when stepped up over distances above 1400m. Stewards noted the explanation.

R. Wiggins, rider of LUCYLOUISE, pleaded guilty to a charge of using his whip in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m. R. Wiggins was fined $200.

SNIP ESPRIT (M. Reuben) was slow to begin.

FASLIYEV DANCER raced ungenerously in the early stages.

SHAKEVA, FINAL CRUNCH and BARRAMUNDI (J. Hoopert) raced wide for the majority of the race.

A post-race veterinary examination of BEVAGNA, which was kicked by another runner in the horse tie up area following the event, revealed the mare to be showing signs of soreness in the near foreleg.

After being slow to begin, CERAMIC (D. Missen) was tightened for room between I’M BUSY (M. Hughes) and BAYONET CHARGE (D. Griffin), which shifted out, resulting in CERAMIC losing ground.

Near the 1200m, PRINCESS WURABINDA, when overracing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RUSSIAN ROYALTY (J. Bowditch), which shifted in.

BAYONET CHARGE overraced in the early stages of the race.

HUSSONATOR (R. Wiggins) raced wide in the early stages.

From leaving the 500m, DIAMOND ACE (D. Browne) was held up and unable to improve on the heels of the tiring SILVAN PRINCE (M. Hellyer) until a point leaving the 300m.
