QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB @ SUNSHINE COAST SUNSHINE COAST POLY TRACK – SATURDAY 5 MARCH 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Poly Track RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J AdamsStewards – D Aurisch, G Goold, P ReardonClerk of Scales – K DalyJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – S FlynnSwab Attendants – A Challen, L ChaplinStarter – R Hanson Race 1: VALE GEOFFREY RICHARDS Class 1 Handicap 2000 metres PUSHKIN – Held up approaching the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight when awkwardly placed at the heels TYRIAN. ENJOY THE SHOW – Over-raced in the early stages. Improved onto the heels of WHO LOVES TO DANCE near the 1200m and had to be steadied. Inclined to lay in throughout the event. TYRIAN – Over-raced when restrained near the 1600m. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: STUART JAMES MEMORIAL Class 4 Plate 2000 metres DUNE FORTY FIVE – Over-raced in the early stages. HE'S THE DEEL – Slow to begin. APPLICATIONS (NZ) – Over-raced when leading in the middle stages. OUR HOT FRIEND – Jumped awkwardly. Race 3: PETER 'PEDRO' GALLAGHER MEMORIAL Maiden Handicap 1400 metres DOONICAN – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, Rider B Pengelly reported that the gelding failed to sprint under pressure from the 400m. He added that DOONICAN will take a fitness benefit from today’s race and will also be better suited over a further distance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be suffering from mild heat stress. GYPSY FOX – Checked at start when tightened for room between BAY STREET and FAILED TO MENTION. AMPHAWA – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 250m. BAY STREET – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out. Passing the 200m raced in restricted room for a short distance. AVENUE OF HEAVEN – Jumped awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 200m. FAILED TO MENTION – Jumped awkwardly. Race 4: ELIZABETH DORAN (BLACK BETTY) BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1000 metres ASK AUDREY – Slow to begin. WINNEBA – When asked to explain the performance, Rider B Pengelly stated the filly travelled comfortably until placed under pressure rounding the home turn and failed to finish as he expected, he attributed the performance to not handling the poly track surface. SPIRIT PRINCESS – Inclined hang out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Race 5: LUCAS MILLOTT MEMORIAL Class 4 Handicap 1100 metres KING'S RULE – Slow to begin. Bucked after travelling a short distance. Stable representative Mrs K Doughty was advised that the gelding must trial officially prior to being permitted to race again. MISS MCKINLEY – Apprentice A Jones was fined $600 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii), for using her whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m, three more than permitted (7th Offence). MISS LOT WON – Over-raced in the early stages. Inclined to race greenly under pressure in the home straight. SCARE CAMPAIGN – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: ANDREW SCHUMACHER MEMORIAL QTIS Three-Year-OldBENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1100 metres The start of this race was delayed when BOHO BEATY proved difficult to load in the barriers. YANGSEA – Steadied when tightened for room by GREY DEFENCE which shifted when not fully clear. Rider S Fawke (GREY DEFENCE) was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater clearance when shifting ground in the future. BETTER THAN EPIC – When questioned regarding the performance, rider A Allen was anticipated to be further forward, however as a number of runners improved to his inside approaching the first turn, he subsequently settled further back in the field. He added that BETTER THAN EPIC was flat footed when the field sprinted from the 500m and worked to the line fairly in the home straight. THE RATTLESNAKE – Jumped awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. DAZZLING FLASH – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. BOHO BEAUTY – Difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer Mr T. Edmonds was advised a warning would be placed on the record of filly. MISS SEATTLE – Steadied when tightened for room by GREY DEFENCE which shifted in when not fully clear. Race 7: REMEMBERING PETE BIRTWELL Class 1 Plate 1400 metres AGENT OF MAYHEM – Raced three wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. HODGSON – Jumped awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m. SPEED MAP – Rider S Cormack reported the colt may have come to the end of its current preparation.MY SHAMANA – Slow to begin. MANDO ROCK – Hampered at start. Rider A Allen reported that the mare didn’t handle the Poly track today. TRY TO BE GOOD – Slow to begin. Race 8: GOOD LUCK JESS HAWKINS Class 6 Handicap 1400 metres The start was delayed when BAHUMUT and VITESE both requiring gear to be refitted in the mounting yard. STARVIRGO – Lost near hind plate in running. LOVE STRUCK – Was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.56pm when it was found to be lame in the near foreleg. FASANO – Rider dropped her whip near the 300m. RAGING POLE – Slow to begin.
