SUPPLEMENTRY REPORT

Sunshine Coast 3 December 2021 - Race 1
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances resulting in Jockey M Cahill, rider of WHY WE DRINK, being dislodged near the 1200m. After taking further evidence from Jockey Cahill, stewards found that leading up to this point, Jockey Cahill had attempted to manoeuvre into a position behind CARRIBEAN KING. Shortly thereafter Jockey Cahill became aware that in shifting inwards this would have resulted in crowding to runners to his inside, and as such he commenced to shift away from the heels of CARRIBEAN KING. After taking the corrective measures, this resulted in WHY WE DRINK clipping the heels of CARRIBEAN KING, blundering and dislodging Jockey Cahill. Stewards were satisfied that no rider was careless in their actions and took no further action.

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances which lead to Licenced Trainer G Sitek being mounted on a registered thoroughbred on Friday 8 July 2022 without a helmet, safety vest or being saddled. After taking evidence, Trainer G Sitek pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under the provisions of AR228(b) and was fined $1500 with $750 wholly suspended for 2 years under AR283(5). In determining penalty, stewards took into account Mr Sitek’s guilty plea and record. Mr Sitek was advised of his rights to an internal review.

Race 8: HENZELL PROPERTY GROUP Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to hear an objection lodged by Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor, rider of 2nd placegetter SKILORD, against the winner BILLY’S BRO alleging interference in the home straight. After hearing evidence stewards were of the opinion that from the vicinity of the 300m BILLY’S BRO shifted out from a position on the fence to a position approximately five horses off the fence making contact with SKILORD on a number of occasions and forcing SKILORD wider on the track. Bearing in mind the distance SKILORD was carried wider on the track and the beaten margin, stewards were comfortably satisfied that should SKILORD have been afforded an unimpeded run, SKILORD would have beaten BILLY’S BRO and as such upheld the objection and amended the judges placing to;
1st      SKILORD
2nd      BILLY’S BRO
3rd      SHALAA KING
