GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 4: MICK’S PASSION – S Cormac 55kg (+1kg)
Race 6: WASSA – M Rodd 56kg (+0.5kg)
 
Due to the male jockey’s spa being unable to be used, Stewards under the circumstances permitted the following overweights and rider changes:
Race 5: TORQUE ESPAGNA – K Wilson-Taylor 55kg (+1kg)
Race 8: BOSTON OF TUFFY – App J Franklin 58kg (claiming only 1.5kg)
Race 9: TORRE EGGAR – App J Williams replacing App J Franklin
 
As apprentice J Williams was to be overweight in Races 3 and 8, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race-day Summary sheet. J Williams was fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting rides when overweight.
 
 
Race 1: BUNDY CHOP SHOP QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1000 M
 
ITALIAN RIVIERA – Began awkwardly. Laid out momentarily passing the 800m.
 
JUST CLIFFY – Crowded for room and taken inwards near the 700m.
 
HISTORICAL GAL – After bumping his right leg when being loaded into the barriers, rider K Zechner was examined by the club doctor following the event and stood from his remaining engagements. K Zechner was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.
 
LOVE IS A ROSE – Began awkwardly. Rider S Willis reported, in her opinion, the horse did not handle the synthetic racing surface.
 
UNDER THE SHADOW – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
VICTORY STATEMENT – Slow to begin. Near the 700m SCOTTVILLE SCOOTER, after improving to the inside of UNDER THE SHADOW, became awkwardly placed at the heels of ITALIAN RIVIERA, shifted in resulting in JUST CLIFFY being taken inwards and crowding the racing room of VICTORY STATEMENT which had to be checked.  
 
 
 
Race 2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROLLY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP          1000 M
 
JAFUBOY – After sustaining a minor laceration to the near hind coronet when being transported to the track, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
 
Race 3: BEETLE COLLINS CHARLEVILLE MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP          1400 M
 
MOTION LEGEND – Hampered on jumping.
 
TOP SPY – Checked when crowded for room between runners on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance rider M Hellyer reported in his opinion the horse failed to handle the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination of TOP SPY revealed no abnormality.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Crowded at the start when PALATIAL PRINCE jumped in. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
MENARI MAGIC – Jumped out at the start.
 
REDENTE CHOICE – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
PALATIAL PRINCE – Jumped in at the start.
 
SISTA ELENORE – As J Williams was to be overweight, Stewards permitted C Collis to ride the horse claiming 1kg of his allowance.  J Williams was fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
 
 
Race 4: KAL'S CONSTRUCTION MAIDEN HANDICAP    1600 M
 
DIVAKARA - Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BUTE MOVES – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
SUBAQUA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MICK'S PASSION – After twisting a plate when being transported to the track, was found to be lame in the off-hind leg and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:58pm. Trainer V Venkaya was advised MICK’S PASSION would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 5: TIARO MEATS & BACON BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP          1600 M
 
BIE'RES – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
TORQUE ESPAGNA – Slow to begin. Left a rearward trailing position at the 1300m, progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 1100m.
 
 
 
Race 6: ADAMA AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE  1400 M
 
SCOTTISH FARMER – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
THE MERCHANT – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
READY BY MIDNIGHT – Near the 1200mraced ungenerously to the inside of I AM AMAZES and lost ground. Trainer D Batters was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners. Mr Batters advised READY BY MIDNIGHT in all likelihood would be retired from racing.  
 
THAT KISS – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Apprentice S Willis, rider of THAT KISS, pleaded guilty under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on eleven occasions prior to the 100m, 6 more than permitted. The licence of S Willis to ride in races was suspended for a period of 21 days to commence midnight 25th March up to and including midnight 15th April 2024, commencing at the expiry of a suspension incurred at Toowoomba on the 9th March 2024.
 
WASSA – Slow to begin. M Rodd, rider of WASSA, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
 
Race 7: NUTRIEN DOS AG MUNDUBBERA MAIDEN PLATE          1000 M
 
PANTHER POWER – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight.
 
ZEPHALONG – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when SEE YOU LATER bucked for some distance.
 
CHERBOURG – Slow to begin.
 
CRYPTO KING – Raced wide for the majority.
 
RUBOS – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 900m.
 
SEEYOU LATER – Bucked for some distance after the start and lost significant ground. Trainer D Gaffa was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BE CAREFUL – Laid in under for the majority of the home straight.
 
 
 
Race 8: SCANLAN ENGINEERING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP          2000 M
 
BOSTON OF TUFFY – Slow to begin.
 
CALL ME HILTON – Began awkwardly.
 
BLUE SWIMMER – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1500m.Rider M Hellyer reported the horse travelled strongly to the 600m, however when placed under pressure a short distance later failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of BLUE SWIMMER revealedno abnormalities.
 
SUDDEN SUSPECT – Slow to begin.
 
LAWBREAKER – Weakened from the 400m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment rider E Lang advised after beginning well, she elected to lead the event however LAWBREAKER raced keenly and when placed under pressure from the 500m did not respond to her riding and was disappointing, adding that in her opinion LAWBREAKER is better ridden with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-hind leg. Trainer D Ward was advised LAWBREAKER would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
SEERESS – After being crossed by BLUE SWIMMER near the 1500m and when the pace of the race eased, commenced to over-race at that runners’ heels, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in CALL ME HILTON being checked.Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
 
Race 9: CARNEYS FEEDSTORE GYMPIE & MURGON BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP        1100 M
 
MY DOG DIESEL – Shifted out near the 300m to obtain clear running. Laid in under riding over the concluding stages.
 
CHASETON – Rider J Byrne reported it was his intention to settle in a more forward position, however after beginning awkwardly settled in a rearward position. At the entrance to the home straight was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when NIGHTSTICK shifted out to improve. Near the 300m bumped and forced wider losing ground. Raced wide for the majority.
 
NIGHTSTICK – Taken out near the 400m, was crowded for room, and bumped with CHASETON before a short distance later approaching the 300m was taken wider on the track and had to be checked. At a subsequent inquiry, in the presence of trainer Mr P Duff, apprentice D McGillivray, rider of MY DOG DIESEL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he rode in a careless manner near the 400m after directing his mount outward  taking NIGHTSTICK out and contacting CHASETON on the hindquarters resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced and further, at a point near the 300m, continued to direct MY DOG DIESEL out under riding resulting in NIGHTSTICK being crossed and obliged to be checked. CHASETON, which was racing to the outside of NIGHTSTICK, was bumped and became unbalanced as a consequence. The licence of D McGillivray was suspended from riding in races for a period of 13 days to commence midnight 16th March up to and including midnight 29th March 2024.
 
ONE IN ALL – Raced wide for the majority. Taken in approaching the winning post.
 
ALL THE SHOPS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.Commenced to lay out from the 900m until the entrance to the home straight.
 
TORRE EGGER – Taken in approaching the winning post.
 
CLAUDIUS – Improved onto the heels of ALL THE SHOPS approaching the 800m and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running between the 200m and 100m. Blundered approaching the winning post resulting in rider S Willis becoming very awkward in the saddle. At a subsequent inquiry, in the presence of Mr P Duff, apprentice D McGillivray pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he allowed MY DOG DIESEL to shift in over the concluding stages whilst riding vigorously when not sufficiently clear of ONE IN ALL making contact with that running and forcing ONE IN ALL  inwards, which resulted in TORRE EGGER being taken inwards which resulted in CLAUDIUS clipping the heels of TORRE EGGER, blundering, and losing ground. The licence of D McGillivray to ride in races was suspended for a period of 18 days to commence midnight 16th March up to and including 3rd April 2024. Stewards ordered this suspension be served concurrently with the prior suspension incurred in the same race. D McGillivray was advised given his poor recent record under this rule, Stewards, acting under AR 144(2), would be referring him to the Racing Qld Training Dept for further tuition.
 
FLEUR DE ROSE – As K Zechner was injured and there was no suitable rider available at the weight, Stewards permitted S Cormack to ride the horse at 55kg (+1kg).
