RICHKISS – Jumped in at the start and bumped ISLAND LADY. Raced keenly for a short distance near the 800m and had to be steadied from heels. Held up rounding the home turn and was then obliged to shift in at the entrance to the home straight to secure clear running. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

ALCAMO BEACH – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: LOVE & PARTNERS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         2000 M

LEATHER JACKET LEW – Rider B Thornton reported heleft a trailing position near the 1600m and raced outside the leader from the 1400m as LEATHER LEW JACKET is a one paced type and as the horse was travelling in a comfortable rhythm, he did not believe it was in the best interest to restrain at that point of the race. He added LEATHER LEW JACKET commenced to weaken from the 600m and in the home straight he desisted from pressuring the gelding as he was concerned with its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

At a subsequent inquiry rider M Rodd was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) for the manner he shifted ground at this point in an attempt to secure clear running. In issuing a reprimand Stewards noted the left arm of M Rodd momentarily contacted rider J Bayliss, however they were comfortably satisfied there was no intent on the part of M Rodd to make contact with jockey Bayliss. In all circumstances both riders were reminded of their obligations under the rules when riding competitively in close proximity.

Change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Rider D Thornton reported THE FIXER raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event and was of the opinion this had a detrimental effect on the finishing effort of the horse in the home straight. Lost both its hind plates in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BEST SONG – Turned its head as the start was effected and as a consequence was slow to begin. Raced keenly for some distance near the 800m.

DAUNTING LADY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CLAUDIUS – When asked to comment on tactics adopted in leading the event, rider S Willis advised it was not her intention to lead, adding the horse can be slow out of the barriers and today, after being very well to begin from the wide barrier and with limited speed shown by runners drawn to the inside, CLAUDIUS raced keenly and as a consequence she allowed the horse to stride forward and lead the event. Apprentice Willis further stated CLAUDIUS can be a difficult horse to restrain in its races and for this reason she was reluctant to over restrain the gelding in the early and middle stages. Trainer P Duff advised it would now be his intention to drop CLAUDIUS back in distance and consider gear changes, adding he would also consider engaging a senior jockey for future race starts.

CLEARY ADONIS – Checked shortly after the start when BIRMINGHAM was hampered and taken in by PARCHEMIN which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.Retired from the event passing the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed CLEARY ADONIS to have bled from both nostrils for the first time and also to be displaying symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer T Hurley was advised the geldingwould be stood down from racing under AR79(4) for a period of 3 months, must trial satisfactorily or gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward and must also obtain a veterinary certificate inclusive of a satisfactory ECG test prior to racing again.
