WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Dead / Slow
Moveable rail out 5 metres for the entire circumference.

GENERAL: As N. Jolly was unavailable to fulfil his engagements he was replaced as follows:

As D. Gill was indisposed she was replaced as follows:

RACE 1
KIRK MIXERS HANDICAP 1400 metres

SPICE MARKET was slow to begin.
NEVER IN DOUBT made contact with the barrier on jumped away.
CANALETTO and PAST AND PRESENT made contact on jumping away. As a result of this incident PAST AND PRESENT became unbalanced and shifted in making contact with NEVER IN DOUBT.
When the pace slackened after passing the 1200 metres SPICE MARKET got its head up and raced fiercely.
When attempting a run in restricted room after passing the 300 metres SUTRA was momentarily tightened when CANALETTO shifted in.

RACE 2
DIET COKE HANDICAP 1000 metres

MISTER BENGAL and SILVER SHEPHERD were both slow to begin.
WHISKEY BOY jumped out at the start making contact with VITAL ATTACK.

RACE 3
FANTA HANDICAP 1800 metres

BEER BELLY BOB which became fractious in the barriers was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
As CHINA CLASSIC was reluctant to leave the barriers Trainer Glen Pierce was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained for the mare prior to its next race start.
PETE’S REVENGE was slow to begin.
After being slow to begin DANZIG’S QUEST raced ungenerously rounding the first turn.
After passing the 1600 metres CHINA CLASSIC pulled hard for some distance.
SAHARA SUZY and PETE’S REVENGE were both forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

RACE 4
SPRITE HANDICAP 1400 metres

PERI REX was slow to begin.
TELUSTRE jumped away awkwardly.
At the start PULL MY STRING and PAIUTEE were both tightened for room between SAHARA FLIER and CAN GET EXCITED both of which shifted ground.
Near the 900 metres MAKTIG WAIAIGRA NU had to be steadied off the heels of FUTURO which was taken in by FESTIVA.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of FESTIVA jockey M. Cahill stated that when placed under pressure the gelding failed to handle the track conditions. M. Cahill further reported that FESTIVA dipped and floundered on several occasions during the event.
A post race Veterinary examination of PERI REX revealed the gelding was lame in the near side shoulder.

Following the running of race 4 the track was downgraded to SLOW.

RACE 5
MT. FRANKLIN HANDICAP 1200 metres

Approaching the 800 metres RIPASYN had to be steadied when tightened for room between PERFORM and TANJENONG both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 200 metres TANJENONG shifted out abruptly. RIPASYN which was following had to be checked to avoid the heels of that gelding.

RACE 6
COCA-COLA CUP 1200 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice ABSENT FRIEND was declared a late scratching at 3.10pm after the gelding became fractious in the barriers, reared and fell and sustained minor bruising.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ABSENT FRIEND were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 5c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 6c in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
Trainer B. Miller’s representative was advised a further barrier certificate must be obtained for ABSENT FRIEND prior to its next race start.
APPREHENDED was slow to begin.
IDEALISTIC and OUR CHARIOT made contact on jumping away.

RACE 7
LIFT HANDICAP 1300 metres

BRITANNICUS was declared a late scratching at 2.39pm as the gelding had incurred a slow track ban.
MR. IVAN jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching and rounding the 800 metres turn LATIN QUARTER was inclined to over race.

RACE 8
POWERADE HANDICAP 1600 metres

TIGER YEATS was slow to begin.
A post race Veterinary examination of CERRUTI failed to reveal any abnormality.


All winners were swabbed.
