STEWARDS REPORT Sunday 23rd December 2001

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good
Moveable rail out 6 metres for the entire circumference.

RACE 1
SUNCOAST CABS HANDICAP 1000 metres

GEOMANCER, RYTHMIC PHANTON and BOUDICA were all slow to begin.

GO NORTH TO ALASKA jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

After leaving the 800 metres RHYTHMIC PHANTOM raced greenly and had to be steadied off the heels GEOMANCER.

When racing greenly approaching the 700 metres GEOMANCER blundered on two occasions and became unbalanced. A short distance later GO NORTH TO ALASKA was tightened for room between FRASER which shifted in and GEOMANCER which shifted out slightly. Apprentice T. Ikenushi rider of FRASER was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

On straightening SPANKSTER shifted out to avoid the heels of JOANNE GIFT and in doing so hampered FRASER.

In the straight CREPITATE shifted out on two occasions when struck with the whip.

TALK ABOUT REAL and CREPITATE were both forced to race wide throughout the event.

DUAL SUCCESS lost the off hind plate during the event.

A post race Veterinary examination of TALK ABOUT REAL failed to reveal any abnormality.
A post race Veterinary examination of GEOMANCER also failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2
THE DAILY JUICE CO HANDICAP 12000 metres

As Ms Desiree Gill failed to arrive to fulfil her engagement on PLAYING FOR KEEPS she was replaced by C. Kearney.

CLOUDMASTER, MURKY and PLAYING FOR KEEPS were all slow to begin.

Race 2 Contd..
TROGLODYTE which was slow to begin was hampered shortly after the start by JACKMORE which shifted in abruptly.

Near the 1100 metres when being steadied JACKMOR was inclined to throw its head in the air.

Near the 1000 metres WHITE RAJA had to be steadied off the heels of ZALZALLA which was taken in by RIVETTING LAD.

Near the 700 metres WHITE RAJA had to be steadied when tightened for room between OUR NOVA and ZALZALLA which shifted in and away from BLAGGARD.

When pulling hard approaching the 400 metres WHITE RAJA shifted out to avoid the heels of RIVETTING LAD taking ZALZALLA wider on the track.

After passing the 200 metres BLAGGARD had to be steadied off the heels of CLOUDMASTER which shifted out to improve.

After passing the 100 metres OUR NOVA shifted out and made contact with VITAL ISSUE.

RACE 3
AUSSIE WORLD HANDICAP 1200 metres

KNITTED and LORKITA were both slow to begin.

After jumping away awkwardly LADY WITH THE LAMP shifted in abruptly causing BRAVE RETURN to be checked and JUST A SPY to be hampered.

Making the first turn NATURAL MOMENT had to be steadied off the heels of
JUST A SPY which shifted out.

Approaching the 600 metres JUST A SPY again shifted out making contact with NATURAL MOMENT.

Approaching the 500 metres JESSIE’S SISTER had to be steadied when attempting a run where there was insufficient room to the inside of MISS LADEDAH. Apprentice M. Rice rider of JESSIE’S SISTER was advised to exercise more care in future.

JUST A SPY returned to the enclosure with a small laceration to the head.

RACE 4
GRAND PACIFIC RESORT HANDICAP 1000 metres

BAAL YABBA was slow to begin.

SHOW STAR and MORNING RIPPLE both jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 500 metres SALIENT PRINCE shifted in slightly taking BAAL YABBA in on to SHOW STAR which made contact with the running rail.

RACE 5
S & D POWERLINE CONTRACTORS HANDICAP 1600 metres

REALE D’OR and ALICIAN made heavy contact on jumping away. As a result of this incident ALICIAN became unbalanced and lost ground.

RIPASYN and CALEDONIAN LAD brushed on jumping away.

GUARDED HONOUR had to be checked on jumping away when tightened for room between TRILOBITE and BANNING’S PAGE.

ROYAL SEA was forced to race wide until leaving the 800 metres.

CALEDONIAN LAD was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

RACE 6
BRACKEN RIDGE TAVERN HANDICAP 1400 metres

Trainer John Wade was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for RISING ROYAL by the required time.

Jockey D. Hayse rider of RISING ROYAL accidentally dropped his whip near the 300 metres.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SPY KING apprentice M. Dracos stated he could offer no excuse for the performance however he was forced to race wide throughout the event.

SPY KING and VATULELE were both examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon following the event and no abnormality could be found.

RACE 7
RAY WHITE CALOUNDRA HANDICAP 1200 metres

HARRIO and LORD RUSTIC were both slow to begin.
FOXMORE jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 400 metres WILD LOLA had to be steadied when tightened between GLASSY and TRANSCEND both of which shifted ground.
At the entrance to the straight MIDSHIPMEN ALL was disappointed for a run between TRANSCEND and FOXMORE.





RACE 8
NK VISION AUSTRALIA HANDICAP 1000 metres

Following a confirmed telephone call from Trainer M. Lewis SHINING POWER was declared a late scratching at 3pm after the horse became fractious and injured itself en route to the course.

After being loaded, THE ANTS PANTS was declared a late scratching at 4.31pm after the gelding broke through the barriers and galloped for some distance
On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on THE ANTS PANTS be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar for the win and 11 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
Trainer Jeff McCarter was advised that a warning has been placed on THE ANTS PANTS relative to its barrier manners.

Near the 850 metres MOYNIHAN and SUPERCHARGER were both tightened for room by INTERIOR TRIM. Apprentice Steven McLean rider of INTERIOR TRIM was severely reprimanded over this incident and advised be must be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 600 metres MOYNIHAN had to be checked when tightened for room by SUPERCHARGER which was taken in by SAHARA LOCH. Whilst it was acknowledged that MOYNIHAN and SUPERCHARGER had made contact prior to the incident apprentice Linda Meech rider of SAHARA LOCH was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.

Approaching the 200 metres MEGAFUN had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MIRROR which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice James Fleming was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.

When questioned regarding the performance of SUPERCHARGER jockey S. Katsidis stated that on two occasions in the event the gelding had met with minor interference and had become unbalanced and after entering the straight when placed under pressure SUPERCHARGER failed to respond to his riding and as a result the gelding was eased down over the concluding stages..
Trainer P. Balzen will be contacted in relation to the poor performance of SUPERCHARGER.



All winners were swabbed.
