STEWARDS REPORT Sunday 24th March 2002

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Slow / Dead
Moveable rail out 6 metres for the entire circumference.

GENERAL: As apprentice James Fleming was indisposed he was replaced as follows:

RACE 1
SUNCOAST CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE PLATE 1000 metres

After jumping away awkwardly RYTHMIC PHANTOM shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of SIR VO.

Shortly after the start MACHTIG MATTANASHI, RED HALI and EARLSTOUN ROSE were all tightened for room between TOMMY BAY which shifted out and RYTHMIC PHANTOM which shifted in and away from SIR VO.

When the pace steadied near the 900 metres BATTER UP had to be steadied off the heels of SIR VO.

RYTHMIC PHANTOM was forced to race wide throughout the event.

Following the running of Race 1 the track was upgraded to DEAD.


RACE 2
JOHN R TURK HANDICAP 1000 metres

SUMMER LOVE shied on the way to the barriers dislodging its jockey D. Hayse and after galloping for some distance the filly was declared a late scratching at 12.52pm.
MYOAKEY which became fractious and broke through the barrier was also declared a late scratching at 1.03pm.
On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SUMMER OF LOVE and MYOAKEY be refunded with deductions of 13 cents in the dollar for the win and 15 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of all bets placed prior to the first scratching at 12.52pm.
All monies invested between 12.52pm and 1.03pm were subject to deductions of 5 cents in the dollar for the win and 6 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of all bets placed prior to 1.03pm.
Both trainer P. Wheatley (SUMMER OF LOVE) and trainer J. Wilcock (MYOAKEY) were advised a warning has been placed on both fillies regarding their manners. .

BEST APPEAL and SUMMER CLANG were both slow to begin.

RACE 3
SHEARWATER RESORT HANDICAP 1400 metres

Trainer Roy Dawson was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for LORKITA by the required time.

The starting time of this event was amended to 1.38pm.

As BIDDADDABA was unable to be loaded into the barriers the colt was declared a late scratching at 1.41pm.
On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BIDDADDABA be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on win bets and 9 cents in the dollar on for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
Trainer K. Tinsley was advised a barrier certificate must be obtained for BIDDADDABA prior to its next race start.

LORKITA shifted out at the start and made contact with URANIA.


RACE 4
DENMAC PLUMBING HANDICAP 1600 metres

When questioned jockey Michael Tracey stated that after being slow to begin SCOOTERS commenced to over race and he was forced to race wide throughout the event. He also stated he may have erred in his judgement in not allowing SCOOTERS to take up a leading role in the middle stages.

A post race Veterinary examination of IANITIS failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 5
HUDSON TIMBER & HARDWARE HANDICAP 1400 metres

The explanation of trainer Harry Williams for the late declaration of a rider for SILVER EXPRESS was accepted.

A short distance after the start WILD LOLA had to be steadied off the heels of ZED STAR which was taken in by GLACIES.

After passing the 600 metres ZED STAR improved up on to the heels of GLACIES and had to be steadied.

Shortly after entering the straight WILD LOLA was retired from the event. A post race Veterinary examination of WILD LOLA revealed the mare had sustained an injury to the off fore tendon.
Trainer G. Moon stated that WILD LOLA would be retired from racing immediately.

RACE 6
REED PROPERTY GROUP HANDICAP 1400 metres

After being slow to begin STOP FLIRTING had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room by FREEDOM ROAD which was taken out by LATIN QUARTER and RAGNAR which was taken in by HAGAR THE HORRIBLE.

Rounding the home turn LATIN QUARTER shifted out and brushed HIGHFIELD LAD which became unbalanced. HAGAR THE HORRIBLE which was following was obliged to shift out causing RAGNAR to strike the heels of HIGHFIELD LAD and blunder.

RACE 7
ALFIE’S ON THE BEACH HANDICAP 1200 metres

The explanation by trainer T. Judge for failing to declare a rider by the required time for ALDERNITI LAD was accepted.
OZZEL was slow to begin.

ARTIQUE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 800 metres CAPTAIN MALLORY improved up on to the heels of DANRULE and had to be steadied.

Trainer Ian O’Neill was advised that ARTIQUE, which bled from both nostrils, will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from ARTIQUE.

RACE 8
CALOUNDRA R.S.L. HANDICAP 1200 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice SRIMATHU was declared a late scratching at 8.15am.

After jumping away awkwardly HI ZURF shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied.

SAGIT HERO jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making heaving contact with the hind quarters of LEE CHEREE.

Near the 700 metres SAGIT HERO was inclined to lay out and had to be steadied off the heels of OUR WILLPOWER.

After passing the 400 metres HI ZURF was disappointed for a run between LEE CHEREE and GARGOYLE.


All winners plus ARTIQUE (Race 8) were swabbed.
