STEWARDS REPORT Sunday April 7th 2001

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Dead / Good
Moveable rail out 8 metres for the entire circumference.

RACE 1
NORTHCOAST FOODS PLATE 1400 metres

GO NORTH TO ALASKA jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

MILLER BOY was slow to begin.

After jumping away awkwardly SKIMBLESHANKS shifted out making contact with SALAD SANDWICK which shifted out inconveniencing DIAMOND FIRE, FINAL NOTICE and POWER AND DESIRE.

When weakening near the 200 metres MILLER BOY had to be steadied off the heels of DIAMOND FIRE which shifted in momentarily.

Following the running of Race 1 the track was upgraded to GOOD.

RACE 2
BIG KART TRACK PTY LTD HANDICAP 1400 metres

TEMPE TIP and TAG AND RELEASE were both slow to begin.

SIR WIGG jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

When the pace slackened after passing the 900 metres MANALOA improved up on the heels of AQUA LEONE and had to be steadied.

ARDOSH was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

MOON PIXIE was held up for clear running for some distance in the straight.

RACE 3
COMPUTERCUT SIGNS & PRINTING HANDICAP 1000 metres

MANDINO and NOBLE LADY made contact on jumping away.

CAESAR’S BOUNTY and MAIZCAY MAGIC made heavy contact on jumping away.

MAC’S FORTUNE and MISS DE LAGO were hampered on jumping away between RAPID VICTORY and RAYMONDS REWARD which shifted out abruptly.

After jumping away awkwardly BEST APPEAL shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of MAC’S FORTUNE causing BEST APPEAL to become unbalanced.

Near the 600 metres MAC’S FORTUNE shifted out slightly causing MISS DE LAGO to be checked.


After passing the 600 metres NOBLE LADY had to be checked to avoid the heels of MISS DE LAGO which was taken out momentarily by MAC’S FORTUNE. Jockey W. Orbell rider MAC’S FORTUNE was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn GLENNIE GAL was inclined to lay in resulting in MANDINO being momentarily cramped for room.

RACE 4
CALOUNDRA BLOCKS HANDICAP 1000 metres

Permission was given for the removal of the cross over nose band on BLACKBAN.
Trainer B. Laming was fined the sum of $50 for failing to submit a gear change for BLACKBAN by the required time.

HARRY’S HAT jumped away awkwardly.

TOM’S EX and MEGARA MOA were both slow to begin.

GIRL INTERRUPTED was forced to race wide throughout the event.

Near the 200 metres FREEWILL improved up on to the heels of GIRL INTERRUPTED and as a result had to be checked.

RACE 5
CALOUNDRA LAW HANDICAP 1400 metres

Prior to entering the saddling enclosure NICADOR became fractious and in doing so slipped over resulting in the mare losing its near fore plate. NICADOR was subsequently replated, inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

As the gates were released NICADOR reared in the air and made heavy contact with the barrier partition. In this incident jockey M. Pelling lost his left iron which took some time to regain.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NICADOR M. Pelling confirmed that he had lost his iron on jumping away and explained that the mare over raced in the early stages. He further added the mare was making an inspiratory noise throughout the event.
Trainer G. Moon stated that when NICADOR was unable to lead the mare then commenced to race fiercely and when placed under pressure in the straight compounded badly. Trainer G. Moon undertook to alert Stewards should anything become apparent in the following days to explain the horse’s performance.
A post race Veterinary examination revealed that NICADOR was making an inspiratory noise and Stewards advised Trainer G. Moon this would be monitored in future.

SHARMEEN STAR lost the near side front plate during the event.

RACE 6
KOASTAL TRENZ HANDICAP 1600 metres.

VACEN LEE, OLE SUNDOWNER, RAW INSTINCT and TEKWILA were all tightened for room between HAGAR THE HORRIBLE and PEE AITCH DEE both of which shifted ground.

Near the 600 metres ANOTHER OFFCUT shifted in and made contact with the running rail. ANOTHER OFFCUT returned to the enclosure with a cut to the off side flank.

RACE 7
NOOSA TRUSS & TIMBER HANDICAP 1600 metres

On jumping away NAKED SPUR and SCOOTERS were both tightened for room between ZED STAR and MAGRITTE both of which shifted ground.

Shortly after the start FLASHBORNE shifted out inconveniencing DIOCLES and SOMMELIER’S CHOICE.

ZED STAR was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Rounding the home turn until passing the 200 metres PRINCESS MELINA was held up for clear running.

SHOW GOLD was held up for clear running in the straight and as a result shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of VIZANARI near the 200 metres.

For a short distance in the straight SCOOTERS was held up for clear running and near the 200 metres was disappointed for a run between NAKED SPUR and ZED STAR both of which shifted ground.

RACE 8
PACIFIC FORD HANDICAP 1200 metres

SCOOBIE SNAX was slow to begin.

At the 800 metres HUGGER MUGGER had to be steadied out and away from the heels of COUNTRY CARAT and from that point was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event.

After passing the 800 metres the near side iron on apprentice R. Hurley’s saddle became detached placing R. Hurley rider of AYNSLEY GOLD at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

M. Lister rider of SIDEKICK was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the 600 metres resulting in TEARDROP having to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn LITHE had to be steadied off the heels of COUNTRY CARAT which shifted out to improve.

TRIP TO VEGA was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
