SCTC STEWARDS REPORT TUE. 05/11/02

WEATHER: Fine TRACK RATING: Good

STEWARDS: Mr G Ireland (Chairman), Mr J Hackett, Mr W Flynn, Mr C Ferguson (Cadet).

RACE 1: CASTLEMAINE SOVEREIGN HANDICAP – 850M.

ALLY BEE was slow to begin.

BRIGHT STRIDE and COOPER KING were tightened for room at the start between CIMARRON TRAIL and NIBBLER both of which shifted ground.

COOPER KING raced greenly in the early stages of the event and near the 600 metres shifted out taking SMART HONEY wider on the track.

When placed under pressure inside the 200 metres TAR BABY was inclined to shift out.

RACE 2: HAHN PREMIUM HANDICAP – 1000M.

Trainer Trevor Thomas was reprimanded for failing to declare a rider for HARD STAR by the required time.

KATIEMU and CHARLEE BUKIT were both slow to begin.

MISS LOPEZ jumped away awkwardly.

BLUE FANTASY which also jumped away awkwardly shifted out and made contact with SUCCESSFUL DEAL.

Near the 650 metres MY PET BUDGIE shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced for some distance.

Approaching the 600 metres BLUE FANTASY was tightened for room between SUCCESSFUL DEAL and RICHLEY’S FLING which shifted out.

Approaching the 500 metres RICHLEY’S FLING was inclined to hang in and away from BLUE FANTASY. As a result ROBERT DEE which was racing to the inside of RICHLEY’S FLING had to be checked.
CHARLEE BUKIT which was following had to be steadied and shift out to avoid the heels of ROBERT DEE.

MCKENZIE RED was forced to race wide throughout the event.

Jockey D Schmidt rider of DELSKI ROAD was fined the sum of $100 for weighing in overweight.


RACE 3: XXXX GOLD HANDICAP – 1800M.

The explanation by jockey K Pope for the dual acceptance of rides on both A’SQUADRO and MAJOR THOMSON was accepted. MAJOR THOMSON was subsequently ridden by jockey D Schmidt.

SAMANDER was slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages of the event KINGSTON CHIEF raced fiercely.

RACE 4: MIX FM HANDICAP – 1000M.

GET MOBILE was slow to begin.

When shifting out to improve near the 100 metres KOSA clipped the heels of SANDY SLIDE then shifted out abruptly hampering MUJAHID and ZEDALITY.

RACE 5: TOOHEYS NEW HANDICAP – 1400M.

CAPTAIN MALLORY jumped in the air as the gates were released and lost considerable ground.

Rounding the 800 metres turn TRUMP OF COLOGNE was tightened for room between OELAND and TEKWILA which shifted out momentarily.

Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight SHOWZON was held up for clear running.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OELAND apprentice C Eaton stated that after being forced to race in a three wide position throughout the event the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure in the straight.
Trainer N Petersen’s representative could offer no explanation however advised that should anything come to light over the next few days to explain the performance of OELAND trainer N Petersen would notify the Stewards.
A post race Veterinary examination of OELAND failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 6: CORBOULD PARK BOOKMAKERS HANDICAP – 1400M.

Prior to the event THYLACINE was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

RACE 7: XXXX BITTER HANDICAP – 1300M.

CAPE HOPE which was slow to begin was tightened for room shortly after the start between TYCOON ROSE and RON’S XENA both of which shifted ground.

For some distance near the 1000 metres KYM’S CONQUEST raced in restricted room between GO NORTH TO ALASKA and RULANCER which was inclined to shift in.

RON’S XENA made the 800 metres turn awkwardly.

Jockey D Schmitt rider of RULANCER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RON’S XENA causing the mare to be tightened and lose its position.
D Schmitt was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Saturday 9th November 2002 and to expire at midnight on Saturday 23rd November 2002.

A Pattillo rider of RON’S XENA was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount near the 300 metres when it shifted out and tightened RULANCER on to the hind quarters of ALL CRAFTY In this incident D Schmitt rider of RULANCER was accidentally struck on the arm by the whip of A Pattillo.
