S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN. 03/08/03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A Reardon (Chairman), Mr D Collingwood, Mr P Gillard, Mr W Geggie.

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good

RACE 1: GARY LEE HANDICAP - 1400M.

DANTE'S VIEW reared as the gates opened and lost ground.

CHEEKY MONKEY jumped away awkwardly.

COLEYVILLE ROAD raced greenly in the early stages of the event.

When steadying off the heels of TRIKWILA approaching the home turn COLEYVILLE ROAD shifted out abruptly forcing CHEEKY MONKEY wider on the track.

RACE 2: LEIGH SEDLEY HANDICAP - 1600M.

Apprentice M Rice was fined the sum of $50 for failing to weigh in on 2nd placed TELESIO.

TELESIO was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200 metres JESTICA was inclined to hang out taking HOODED GEM and GLADMAC wider on the track.

RACE 3: KIRSTEN PIKE HANDICAP - 1800M.

Acting on Veterinary advice CLEEV was declared a late scratching at 12 noon when the gelding was found to be sore in the near fore shoulder.
Trainer L Gough was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for CLEEV prior to its next race start.

As N Day was indisposed he was replaced on DANCING MAN by J Hoopert.

COVET IN CASH was slow to begin.

DANCING MAN blundered on jumping away.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HYMETTA jockey R Pittman stated he could offer no explanation however added that the mare was under pressure from the 600 metres.
A post race Veterinary examination of HYMETTA failed to reveal any abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of DISPORTS apprentice Z Purton stated he could not offer any reason for the poor performance other than when returning to the enclosure he felt that may have been something amiss with the gelding.
A post race Veterinary examination of DISPORTS failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer Rod Smyth advised that DISPORTS would be immediately spelled.

RACE 4: AARON MAYNARD HANDICAP - 1300M.

DESERT SAMBA was slow to begin.

On jumping DON PICCOLO was tightened for room between JAROSLAV and TRAVEMONDE.

When steadying off the heels of MAIZY MAY approaching the 1000 metres LITTLE JOHN'S GIRL shifted out taking CRAVACHE out on to GALLANT HARRY which had to be checked off the heels of GOLD LOGIE.

Approaching the 800 metres GOLD LOGIE improved to the inside of JUST A GIGOLO making contact with LITTLE JOHN'S GIRL forcing that horse across the heels of MAIZY MAY.

At the 800 metres EAT 'N' RUN shifted in taking ROOKY ROGER in on to the hind quarters of DESERT SAMBA and as a result had to be steadied. G Baker rider of EAT 'N' RUN was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

RACE 5: MARAYKE JONKERS HANDICAP - 1200M.

Prior to the event MISS DA NANG was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

KELTATT'S GEM was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Near the 300 metres PERUGINE STAR shifted out and made contact with LOVE TO WIN which became unbalanced.

RACE 6: XXXX RISING STARS HANDICAP - 1200M.

Prior to the event FELICITATE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

HILDA CHOICE was slow to begin.

After leaving the 800 metres FELICITATE had to be steadied off the heels of POWER BREAK which shifted in.

Following the event D Tanti reported that he felt something was amiss with KATABATIC over the concluding stages. Trainer B Brown advised he would have the horse scoped and forward the result of that examination to the Stewards.



RACE 7: JARED WHITTAL HANDICAP - 1300M.

As M Dale was indisposed he was replaced on QUID JESTER by R Hancock.

PUSADORO was slow to begin.

When steadying off the heels of L'ELEVE after leaving the 1000 metres CRUSHED ICE shifted out taking QUID JESTER out on to MADIBA which had to be checked off the heels of CYMBALIST.

When being restrained off the heels of L'ELEVE approaching the 800 metres CRUSHED ICE again shifted out making contact with QUID JESTER resulting in MADIBA having to be checked when tightened for room between that runner and COERCED.
PUSADORO which was following CRUSHED ICE was inconvenienced in this incident.

Near the 550 metres PUSADORO had to be restrained off the heels of L'ELEVE.
PUSADORO was then held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

RACE 8: T J WELFORD HANDICAP - 1300M.

Jockey P Wolfgram was reprimanded for being overweight and unable to fulfil his engagement on RUNAWAY MARIE. The mare was subsequently ridden by M Carson.

EARLSTOUN GRACE which was slow to begin was tightened for room shortly after by LOUD BLUE which shifted out.

After jumping away awkwardly SCENT OF ROMANCE shifted out and made contact with KAWENDE.

HOT CHAR brushed the rail after leaving the 800 metres.

HIT THE COT was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Approaching the 200 metres VROOM shifted in under pressure taking HIT THE COT in on to RUNAWAY MARIE. In this incident HIT THE COT had to steady and alter course to the outside of the heels of VROOM.
Apprentice M Rice rider of VROOM was reprimanded for this incident
Approaching the finishing line HIT THE COT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of VROOM which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice M Rice immediately straightened his mount.


All winners were sent to be swabbed.
