SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As S. Shield and J. Holder were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary sheet. Both S. Shield and J. Holder will be required to produce medical certificates before their next riding engagements.
Race 1: MIDAS CAR CARE SYSTEM/BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP - 850m
1st – Sleepy Jackson 2nd – Unstoppable Lady 3rd – Syllable 4th - Poncho
CRAIGLEA COWGIRL (N. Jolly) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start SNAGAPOT (C. Spry) began to buck, was quickly restrained and tailed off. Trainer M. Hicks was advised that SNAGAPOT must perform satisfactorily in two official barrier trials before being permitted to start again.
Approaching the 700m UNSTOPPABLE LADY (M. Cahill) was momentarily steadied from SYLLABLE (L. Morrison) which shifted in. Shortly after this PONCHO (R. Plumb), which was following SYLLABLE, was steadied from that horse’s heels when the pace slackened.
SHEDAWN (G. McCarthy) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: IDEAL ELECTRICAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Jacaranda Leader 2nd – Banjo 3rd – Chatostar 4th – Gunatilla
CHATOSTAR (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.
At the start STRATEGIC DREAM (R. Plumb) and BANJO (M. Palmer) were both tightened between SH’BOURNE KAHLUA (B. El-Issa) and BWANA HARI (J. Taylor), both of which shifted ground.
HEIR TO GREATNESS (C. Eaton) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1200m MOURNFUL (A. Best) hung in despite the efforts of its rider and momentarily tightened STRATEGIC DREAM and SH’BOURNE KAHLUA to the inside.
HOT NOTES (S. Drake) was caught wide in the early stages.
GUNATILLA (S. Scriven) was caught wide during the early stages and then settled closer to the rail nearing the 800m.
MOURNFUL was caught wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn DOUBLE EXCELL (O. Turpin) was momentarily held up to the inside of JACARANDA LEADER (S. Katsidis). Shortly after, BANJO (M. Palmer) was held up behind SCISSORSPAPER ROCK and to the inside of CHATOSTAR, and when shifting out shortly after, bumped CHATOSTAR.
Over the concluding stages J. Taylor (BWANA HARI) was accidentally struck on the left arm by R. Plumb (STRATEGIC DREAM).
JACARANDA LEADER shifted in over the concluding stages when under pressure.
STRATEGIC DREAM ducked in approaching the line.
SCISSORSPAPER ROCK returned to the enclosure with blood in both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which SCISSORSPAPER ROCK had bled, it will incur the mandatory three-month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from SCISSORSPAPER ROCK.
Race 3: CENTREPOINT APARTMENTS MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Stirring 2nd – Mr Hot Property 3rd – Blackal 4th – Frisco Darling
A warning was placed on MERA, which was difficult to load.
MERA (T. Pannell) lost its off fore plate on jumping away.
JACARANDA SPINIFEX (M. Radecker) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after was bumped when BLACKAL shifted out.
KALINGA DANCER (J. Bowditch) jumped out when released, taking BILLI WHO (C. Eaton) out on to FRISCO DARLING (M. Hughes).
Passing the 1000m BLACKAL (S. Scriven) was bumped by MERA which was hanging in and as a result KALINGA DANCER, which was following, had to be momentarily steadied.
JACARANDA SPINIFEX was caught wide throughout.
Approaching the home turn MR HOT PROPERTY (S. Katsidis) was momentarily held up to the inside of LERTEL (O. Turpin).
Between the 600m and the 400m MR HOT PROPERTY had a tendency to lay in.
Race 4: CRUSHERS LEAGUES CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Rojah Lass 2nd – Key To Happiness 3rd – Certiori 4th – Legs Undici
As S. Galloway failed to arrive on course on time, M. Cahill was substituted as the rider of LUCKY MIX.
Connections advised stewards that, if circumstances permit, KEY TO HAPPINESS would be ridden in a position handy to the lead or mid-field. A public announcement was made to this effect.
On leaving the enclosure ARSANG dislodged its rider, who suffered a harmless fall, and then escaped for some distance around the track. ARSANG was subsequently withdrawn by order of the stewards at 2:05 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on ARSANG be refunded in full, with deductions of 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply to bets made before 2:05 p.m.
DELISTED (S. Drake) jumped out at the start and made contact with DEPUTY DODGE (R. McMahon).
LUCKY MIX (M. Cahill) blundered on jumping away.
Shortly after the start DELISTED was crowded between DEPUTY DODGE and KEY TO HAPPINESS (B. El-Issa), which had a tendency to lay out.
Approaching the 800m CERTIORI (S. Scriven) became awkward on the heels of LEGS UNDICI (L. Morrison). At a subsequent inquiry, L. Morrison was issued with a severe reprimand under AR. 137(a) and instructed that in future when shifting in she is to ensure that riders to her inside are given sufficient racing room.
Rounding the home turn CERTIORI was momentarily held up to the inside of KEY TO HAPPINESS.
Over the concluding stages KEY TO HAPPINESS began to hang in despite the efforts of its rider, who attempted to straighten on at least three occasions. Jockey B. El-Issa reported that KEY TO HAPPINESS was accidentally struck over the head in the straight by the whip of jockey L. Morrison (LEGS UNDICI).
LILLY DANCER lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 5: LABELS OF EUROPE 3YO & UP CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Lennon 2nd – Inaspin 3rd – Thundering Girl 4th – Al Seef
AUSTRICA ONE (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.
From the 600m until the 400m JAKELLI (B. El-Issa) had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider.
THUNDERING GIRL (M. Palmer) shifted out rounding the home turn to obtain clear running, taking AUSTRICA ONE wider. Shortly after, THUNDERING GIRL was taken out by CHARDONAIR (R. Hinricks) which shifted out under pressure and brushed AUSTRICA ONE.
Over the concluding stages LENNON (S. Scriven) hung out despite the efforts of its rider.
Race 6: SUNCOAST CABS 3YO & UP CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1000m
1st –Sammy’s Illusion 2nd – Caesar’s Jewel 3rd – Vive Le Roi 4th – Les Jeux D’Esprit
Apprentice S. Drake was fined $100 under LR. 51(1) for accepting dual engagements on FRIGATE and WABESTO. R. McMahon was subsequently engaged on WABESTO.
SKY MINE (B. El-Issa) reared in the air on jumping and shortly after began to overrace on the heels of FRIGATE (S. Drake).
VIVE LE ROI (S. Galloway) was momentarily held up rounding the home turn to the inside of FRIGATE and on the heels of KALINGA MATT (J. Bowditch).
Approaching the 300m SKY MINE hung in and as a result SKY MINE shifted in and bumped KALINGA MATT.
Race 7: NORTH COAST FOODS CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – National Forest 2nd – Master Illusion 3rd – Rojo Dios 4th – Jondy Rex/Bitofasmartie
Trainer L. Ross was fined $100 under LR. 51(1) for engaging apprentice A. Winfield on ROJO DIOS when she had previously been engaged on SHADDAR. M. Palmer was subsequently engaged as the rider for ROJO DIOS.
DIRECTIONAL (D. Van Bekkum), WINDY SHORE (L. Morrison) and SHADDAR (A. Winfield) were all slow to begin.
TARA FLASH (J. Bowditch) stood in the barriers, losing considerable ground. At a subsequent inquiry trainer G. Osborne stated that the mare would now be retired. Stewards instructed Mr Osborne that TARA FLASH, if brought back to racing, would have to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before starting again.
The saddle on SOUTH OF THE RIVER slipped shortly after the start, placing D. Green at a considerable disadvantage throughout.
Approaching the 1300m JONDY REX (S. Galloway) hung in and away from NATIONAL FOREST (S. Scriven) and in doing so momentarily crowded FAIRSEA (S. Drake), which was steadied.
Shortly after leaving the 1300m IRON RULER (J. Walk) began to overrace and nearing the 1200m laid in and momentarily crowded ENCOSTA ROCKET (N. Thomas), which was also overracing. IRON RULER continued to overrace for some distance and shortly after leaving the 800m elected to move wider.
DIRECTIONAL was caught wide throughout.
ENCOSTA ROCKET was caught wide from the 1200m.
TRIPLE TIME (D. Griffin) was momentarily held up on the heels of SOUTH OF THE RIVER (D. Green) approaching the 400m.
Approaching the 300m SOUTH OF THE RIVER rolled in under pressure and brushed DESERT MONARCH (S. Katsidis).
WINDY SHORE was held up for some distance after leaving the 300m and over the final stages elected to shift out over the heels of MASTER ILLUSION (R. McMahon) which had a tendency to lay in.
Leaving the 300m FAIRSEA was momentarily crowded to the inside of INNOCENT BY BIRTH (S. Wright).
Trainer M. Kropp reported that JONDY REX had sustained a puncture wound behind the off knee and a small abrasion near the near knee during the event.
Race 8: EBB WATERFRONT DINING & CELLAR CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Willy Leica 2nd – Udder Brilliance 3rd – Casaco 4th – Mighty Icon
GOTCHA COVERED (J. Bowditch) and RISING TOWER (D. Van Bekkum) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start UDDER BRILLIANCE (B. El-Issa) shifted out taking MR LISTER (K. Wharton) wider.
MIGHTY ICON (M. Radecker) and RISING TOWER raced wide throughout.
GOTCHA COVERED shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of WILLY LEICA revealed a small abrasion to the off fore fetlock.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that GET SALTY was sore in the off hind leg. Trainer B. Smith was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required before GET SALTY starts again. Mr Smith indicated that GET SALTY would now be retired.
Race 9: THE ASMUS FAMILY OF KAWANA CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – King Leonidas 2nd – Englobo 3rd – Grand Laddie 4th – Craiglea Countess
Trainer F. Adams was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare M. Palmer as the rider of KRASNOROUTSKAYA by the prescribed time.
KING LEONIDAS (D. Tanti) and DARBINGA (B. El-Issa) were slow to begin.
On jumping away BALADI (S. Galloway) and GRAND LADDIE (G. Colless) came together and bumped.
ALMOST TANGO (C. Eaton) raced wide during the early and middle stages.
SILVA RAZZ (B. Johnson) and RAMBO STAR (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 800m DUAL OPINION (S. Drake) became awkward on the heels of CRAIGLEA COUNTESS (M. Rice) when overracing, and approaching the 700m had a tendency to lay out across the heels of CRAIGLEA COUNTESS.
Shortly after leaving the 300m ENGLOBO (S. Wright) shifted out under pressure and bumped MULGA BOB (K. Wharton).
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GRAND LADDIE, jockey G. Colless stated that he felt that the horse was one-paced and overraced during the middle stages. He added that when he let the horse down turning into the straight he responded for a short distance but then failed to run on and was disappointing. He further added that he mentioned to connections that he felt that GRAND LADDIE was not suited to rain-affected tracks. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
KING LEONIDAS lost its off near plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of LYRICAL STYLE (J. Bowditch) revealed no abnormalities.
