As J. Jones was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Hot 91 (Cushion Track) Class 3 Plate - 2150m
1st – Eedeeal 2nd – No Limitation 3rd – Tanae Amber 4th – Straight Edge
ZIBO (N. Thomas) and LION BLANC (O. Turpin) were slow to begin.
LION BLANC raced ungenerously in the early stages.
INTEREST (L. Rolls) raced wide from the 800m onwards.
K. Yoshida, rider of VIOLET’S WISH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m, he shifted out when insufficiently clear of LION BLANC (O. Turpin), resulting in that horse having to be checked. K. Yoshida was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight 30 June and to expire at midnight, 12 July.
Race 2: Contour Consulting Engineers (Cushion Track) 1MW Last year H'cap - 1600m
1st – Armstrong Jones 2nd – Charvicky 3rd – Jussemi 4th – Nevada Gambler
CHARVICKY (L. Cassidy) and ANOTHER SPEIGHTS (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
When the pace slackened leaving the 1200m, UNCLE JAN (K. Pope) commenced to overrace, resulting in ILUVA QUEENSLANDER (L. Rolls) had to be steadied.
CHARVICKY and SAILOR SALUTE (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
ARMSTRONG JONES lost its off fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER revealed the gelding had been galloped on on the near foreleg.
Following the running of race 2, stewards met with a delegation of senior riders and inspected the crossing near the 1800m. After consultation with the Course Ranger, maintenance work was carried out to alleviate the concerns.
Race 3: RCQ Phelan Ready Classic QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Daneomite 2nd – Bob And Dolly 3rd – Machination 4th -
Trainer J. Wilson was reprimanded for failing to present RUNNING FOR ROSES on course by the prescribed time.
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer M. Jacobs for the late declaration of G. Colless for AL MAZAYA.
BRUJITA (A. Best), FIRST OPTION (P. Wolfgram), SURF’S UP (B. Evans) and RUNNING FOR ROSES (N. Thomas) were slow to begin.
TASTY TIDBIT (J. Bowditch) was tightened for room on jumping away between JUSTLUK (D. Browne) and MISS SANCTITY (K. Pope), which jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 500m, MISS SANCTITY (K. Pope), which was losing ground, was momentarily tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of FALPLAY (O. Turpin), which shifted in when inclined to hang in.
SURF’S UP and RUNNING FOR ROSES raced wide throughout.
AL MAZAY lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 4: Neil T. Fallon Services Class 3 Plate - 1200m
1st – On The Leather 2nd – Guns 3rd – Citiwyse 4th - Beurre
As G. Boss failed to arrive on course, J. Bowditch was substituted as the rider of JUST A CLASSIC. Trainer J. Bannon was fined $100 for declaring G. Boss without first confirming such engagement.
JUST A CLASSIC (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with SILKEN APPEAL (M. Cahill).
BEURRE (A. Best) overraced in the early stages.
When the pace slackened approaching the 800m, JUST A CLASSIC commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of ON THE LEATHER (D. Browne) and shifted wider, forcing SILKEN APPEAL (M. Cahill) wider on the track. Both horses then raced wide from that point onwards.
Near the 200m, WORTH DOING (B. Evans) was momentarily tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between CITIWYSE (L. Cassidy) and BEURRE (A. Best), which shifted in and away from ON THE LEATHER.
JUST A CLASSIC lost its off fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of HIRSUTE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Summerveld Racing Stables Class 6 Plate - 1000m
1st –His Boy Elroy 2nd – Monashee Knight 3rd – Cardio 4th – She’s Meaner
The start of this race was delayed due to concerns from the riders regarding the use of the 1000m shute. Stewards subsequently ordered that the race be started from the 1000m mark on the course proper.
MONASHEE KNIGHT (J. Piper) was slow to begin.
HIS BOY ELROY (S. Galloway) was tightened for room at the start between MONASHEE DANCER (J. Byrne), which shifted out, and HAIL FREE (M. Hellyer), which shifted in.
Near the 900m, THE CHANSTER (Michael Palmer) was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between SEETHING DUCK (A. Spinks), which shifted out, and HAIL FREE (M. Hellyer), which was taken in by SCENT OF GOLD (B. Evans), which shifted in.
SHE’S MEANER (L. Cassidy) and MONASHEE KNIGHT (J. Piper) raced wide throughout.
SCENT OF GOLD lost its near fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of THE CHANSTER, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: XXXX F&M H'cap - 1400m
1st – His Boy Elroy 2nd –Monashee Knight 3rd – Cardio 4th – She’s Meaner
The start of this race was delayed due to OUR JANGLES having to be reshod.
COOL EDITION (S. Galloway) and RISEUPSINGING (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away.
Leaving the 1200m, RISEUPSINGING (M. Hellyer) and HUSSTA LA VISTA (O. Turpin) were crowded for room between SANDTON (E. Wilkinson) and SECONDE (T. Agland), which after initially shifting in slightly, was then taken in by PERTINENCE (J. Bates). In the circumstances, stewards took no direct action.
Jockey E. Wilkinson, rider of SANDTON, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 200m, resulting in S. Galloway, rider of COOL EDITION, having to take hold of his mount.
Apprentice B. Evans reported that HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN was making an abnormal respiratory noise on return to the enclosure following the event. Trainer A. Bailey advised he would have the mare scoped and furnish the results of such endoscopic examination to the stewards. A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Yalumba Wines CG&E Class 6 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Patties Mate 2nd – Mauries Pick 3rd – Frisco’s In Charge 4th – Framous
L. Rolls was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
DAWN’S PRIDE (M. Hellyer), and THE LORDING DRAGON (K. Pope) were slow to begin.
DEACON (B. Pengelly) lost ground at the start after jumping away awkwardly, and made heavy contact with MR DOYLE (M. Cahill).
A post-race veterinary examination of TELESTO WARRIOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 8: Bruce McLachlan Glasshouse H'cap - 1400m
1st – Lucky Luna 2nd – Rockpecker 3rd – Rags To Riches 4th – Jacqueline Rouge
SHAKARA (A. Spinks) and COCKTAIL SUPREME (T. Treichel) were slow to begin.
Near the 800m, SAVE A BUCK (B. Evans) raced in restricted room between VOICE COMMANDER (T. Agland), which lost ground quickly at that stage, and NEXGEN (K. Forrester), which was taken in by DALZAR (C. Reith), which in turn was taken in by PUBLIC NUISANCE (N. Thomas).
SAVE A BUCK overraced in the middle stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of VOICE COMMANDER, T. Agland stated that the horse failed to show its customary early speed today and after receiving a minor amount of tightening near the 900m lost significant ground and did not feel comfortable in today’s track conditions. T. Agland further added that once the horse was able to balance up in the home straight, the gelding worked home well over the concluding stages.
Mr A. Bailey, trainer of CHARMING ROGUE, which proved disappointing today, advised stewards he would have his veterinary surgeon inspect the horse in the days following the event and would report any condition which may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance.
SOMMERSEA DRIVE lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 9: CNW Electrical & Data Supplies Caloundra Cup (Listed) – 2400m
1st – Reggie 2nd – Phaze Action 3rd – Deraismes 4th – Cape Breton
ALEXANDER OF HALES (B. Pengelly) and DERAISMES (G. Boss) came together near the 400m when DERAISMES shifted in to obtain clear running.
PHAZE ACTION (D. Browne) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Jockey L. Cassidy reported that OUR LUKAS failed to handle today’s track conditions.A post-race veterinary examinations of OUR LUKAS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the performance of ALEXANDER OF HALES, B. Pengelly stated that the horse did not feel comfortably in today’s track conditions and whilst he had placed the horse under pressure leaving the 800m, he was unable to make ground and the horse tired considerably over the concluding stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of SCATTERGUN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 10: XXXX Sunshine Coast 3yo Guineas – 1600m
1st – Za Magic 2nd – Walk In The Park 3rd – Syndrome 4th – Jazz Heart
YUMMY was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.58 pm when the filly was found to be sore in the off foreleg.
SILVER WHISPER (N. Thomas) was considerably slow to begin. Trainer A. Williamson was advised that he must provide 2 barrier certificates for SILVER WHISPER prior to its next race start.
A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE (B. Hull) was slow to begin.
SCONANDTINK (J. Piper) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, ALTERATION (M. Allen) and JAZZ HEART (S. Scriven) were both tightened for room between ZA MAGIC (G. Colless) and DORF COMMAND (B. Pengelly), which shifted in.
APPARITIONS (J. Byrne) had a tendency to overrace in the early stages.
YAMARJIE (M. Palmer), WALK IN THE PARK (L. Cassidy), VISION OF FALVELON (A. Spinks) and THE GROGOCH (S. Galloway) raced wide for the majority of the event.
SPIRTO GENTIL lost its off fore plate in running.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by C. Grylls on SYNDROME after that horse settled further back in the field than anticipated. C. Grylls explained that shortly after the start his mount commenced to overrace and as he believed that this would have resulted in him taking up the leading position, which he had been specifically instructed not to do, he chose to steady the horse, however SYNDROME resented being restrained and lost ground sharply. Trainer M. Moroney confirmed the instructions specifically in regards to the horse leading, and added that SYNDROME was a lightly raced gelding that was still learning to race.
Race 11: The Lily Room (Cushion Track) CG&E Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Red Rocker 2nd – Lotachoc 3rd – Shere Khan 4th – Mr Daybreak
MR DAYBREAK (T. Treichel) and LOTACHOC (R. Hurley) were slow to begin.
When the pace steadied approaching the 1200m, BINRASY (A. Merritt), which had a tendency to overrace, had to be steadied from the heels of RED ROCKER (N. Thomas).
Near the 800m, IVAN’S CHOICE (B. Evans), which made the turn awkwardly, shifted out, forcing MOUBASSIN (E. Wilkinson) out on to CITY LIMITS (S. Scriven), which in turn shifted out, resulting in MR DAYBREAK (T. Treichel) having to be checked to avoid that horse’s heels.
R. Hurley, rider of LOTACHOC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of IVAN’S CHOICE (B. Evans), resulting in B. Evans having to take hold of IVAN’S CHOICE when tightened between LOTACHOC and GIVE IT TO ME (C. Grylls), which further resulted in MOUBASSIN (E. Wilkinson) also having to be steadied when IVAN’S CHOICE shifted out as a result of being restrained. R. Hurley was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 June and to expire at midnight, 8 July.
GIVE IT TO ME (C. Grylls) raced wide throughout.
Race 12: Ambassador Travel (Cushion Track) F&M Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Shocking Blue 2nd – Countless Moments 3rd – Often Wrong 4th – Second Hand Mac
G. Baker was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on JENSWAY and was replaced by C. Grylls.
S. Galloway was also stood down by the club’s doctor and replaced by N. Thomas on COUNTLESS MOMENTS.
COUNTLESS MOMENTS (N. Thomas), which reared as the start was effected, was further hampered shortly after between OFTEN WRONG (J. Byrne) and HIDDEN HEART (M. Cahill), which shifted out.
A post race veterinary examination of CUGAT’S LADY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
COUNTESS MOMENTS lost its near fore plate in running.
