1st – I’m Busy 2nd – Noonday 3rd – Hawky 4th - Markoto

NOONDAY (J. Byrne) and MARKOTO (J. Kropp) were slow to begin.

COMPADRE (M. Hellyer) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

Leaving the 600m, KENTARO (J. Taylor) shifted out to improve and as a result became awkward and shifted wider on the track. NOONDAY, which was following, was obliged to shift out to avoid that gelding’s heels.

Near the 500m, MARKOTO improved onto the heels of PRIVATE OFFER (W. D'Avila) and had to be checked. COMPADRE, which was following, was also forced to check as a result and shifted out, making contact with HAWKY (R. Wiggins).

Leaving the 500m, OCTAVAR (K. Wharton) became awkward at the heels of ADINI (A. Spinks) when attempting to take a tight run to the inside of that gelding.

NOONDAY commenced to lay in on entering the straight and did so until a point near the 200m.

MARKOTO had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Race 2: Stanley River Thoroughbreds QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Gotta Be Lucky 2nd – Weona Dazzler 3rd – Class Of Gold 4th – Vivarea

Apprentice J. Wood was reprimanded for being dually engaged on EASY LAGER and ETCHED IN GLASS. D. Missen was substituted as the rider of EASY LAGER.

EASY LAGER, which dislodged its rider en route to the barriers and galloped for a considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 12.57pm on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on EASY LAGER were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

GOTTA BE LUCKY (M. Palmer) was tightened for room at the start and lost ground between BLACK BANNER (W. D'Avila) and STAG (M. Hellyer), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

YOUR MOVE (G. Colless) and ETCHED IN GLASS (J. Wood) were slow to begin.

DENS ERA(P. Hammersley) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 900m, BLACK BANNER was tightened for room between STAG and WEONA DAZZLER (A. Spinks), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Leaving the 800m, ETCHED IN GLASS (J. Wood) improved on to the heels of STAG and shortly afterwards shifted out whilst being steadied across the heels of BLACK BANNER and lost ground.

Near the 700m, CLASS OF GOLD (B. Wallace) had to be steadied when racing to the inside of WEONA DAZZLER, which was taken in by VIVAREA (D. Barron). D. Barron, rider of VIVAREA, was reprimanded for this incident.

Rounding the home turn, AVGAS (J. Byrne) shifted out to improve and made contact with WEONA DAZZLER on a number of occasions, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

WEONA DAZZLER laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of DENS ERA revealed the horse had sustained a laceration to the mid canon on the near hind leg.

Race 3: Hotel Maleny Maiden H'cap – 1000m
1st –Angelcourt 2nd – More Than Curly 3rd – Running Vixen 4th - Cervance

PUSH FORWARD was declared a late scratching at 11 am following advice from trainer
L. Birchley that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer L. Birchley will be advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

Correct weight was delayed to enable J. Byrne, rider of the 3rd placegetter, RUNNING VIXEN, to view the stewards patrol film approaching the 400m to ascertain if he had grounds against the 2nd placegetter, MORE THAN CURLY. Subsequently after viewing the film, J. Byrne elected not to protest.

MYSTICAL SANDS (A. Spinks) jumped away awkwardly.

DIXIE FLYER (W. D'Avila) was tightened for room at the start between CERVANCE (M. Wood) and TOUGH TACTICS (J. Kropp), which shifted out.

Shortly after the start, CERVANCE (M. Wood) shifted in, forcing DIXIE FLYER in on to the hind quarters of TOUGH TACTICS, which resulted in DIXIE FLYER becoming awkward and having to be steadied from the heels of TOUGH TACTICS.

Approaching the 500m, TOUGH TACTICS (J. Kropp) shifted in, making contact with SHADY DEAL (M. Gray) and as a result shifted out across the heels of ANGELCOURT (R. Wiggins) and had to be steadied. This resulted in GOT THE ROCK (M. Palmer) being taken wider on the track.

Near the 400m, MORE THAN CURLY (J. Taylor) shifted out, making contact with RUNNING VIXEN (J. Byrne).

Approaching the 200m, CERVANCE was disappointed for a run between RUNNING VIXEN, which shifted out, and ANGELCOURT, which shifted in. As a result, M. Wood, rider of CERVANCE, was obliged to stop riding and shift out to obtain clear running.

DIAMANTINA GIRL (D. Barron) and ANGEL COURT (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Centrepoint Apartments Caloundra Open H'cap - 1400m
1st – Patties Mate 2nd – Go Cart 3rd – Joyeaux Joy 4th - Telfire

GO CART (R. Wiggins) and TELFIRE (S. Galloway) were slow to begin.

JOYEAUX JOY (D. Green) raced wide from the 800m onwards.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice jockey K. Ashton, rider of TESTIMONIAL and D. Browne, rider of SNEAKY LONG, regarding the tactics adopted on their mounts, in particular the pace which was set during the early and middle stages. Apprentice Ashton stated that after initially placing TESTIMONIAL under pressure from the barriers, she attempted to take hold within the first 100 metres of the event, however the horse commenced to race keenly and continued to do so before tiring from the 500m. D. Browne stated at no stage did he pressure the horse and that he had been instructed to come out on SNEAKY LONG as quietly as possible as it had had a tendency to overrace in the past. He added that SNEAKY LONG raced very keenly on the outside of TESTIMONIAL until a point near the 800m when his mount responded to his attempts to restrain, and he then was able to get the horse to settle just behind TESTIMONIAL. Both riders were of the opinion that the racing characteristics of both horses had a detrimental effect on the way their respective mounts finished their races off. The comments were noted.

Stewards questioned M. Radecker, rider of REBOUNDED, regarding the performance of that gelding. She stated she was forced to pressure her mount in an attempt to hold a position in the early stages due to the fast pace which was being set in the event. M. Radecker further added that she was forced to steady momentarily near the 900m to avoid the heels of PATTIES MATE, which shifted in. Miss Radecker was of the opinion that her mount failed to quicken as anticipated from the 600m despite her urgings and was of the opinion that PATTIES MATE would be more suited to races over 1600m or longer.

R. Wiggins, rider of GO CART, was questioned regarding the performance of that gelding. He stated that after being slow to begin, the horse failed to muster speed and he was forced to pressure his mount throughout the race. He added that GO CART has performed better on rain affected going and was more suited to races over longer distances.

Race 5: Caloundra Community Bendigo Bank m
1st – Ali’s Gold Class 2nd – Angel From Above 3rd – Elusive Shadow 4th – Greys A Rockin

FLYING MEL (A. Spinks) and MEDICI (S. Wiseman) were slow to begin.

R. Wiggins, rider of MAJESTIC JEWEL, which was racing wide approaching the 1200m, elected to shift wider on the track and ride forward to assume a position outside the leader, and near the 900m shifted in, tightening the running of MEDICI (S. Wiseman), which resulted in FIERY CINDER (M. Hellyer), which was racing to the inside, being tightened for room and having to be steadied. R. Wiggins, rider of MAJESTIC JEWEL, was reprimanded.

Near the 800m, GREYS A ROCKIN (B. Richardson) shifted out to improve around the heels of the leader and in doing so made contact with MAJESTIC JEWEL (R. Wiggins).

BILLUM (C. Munce) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

MEDICI raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned B Wallace regarding the tactics he adopted on ANGEL FROM ABOVE, particularly the reason for shifting away from the rail leaving the 500m, which resulted in him being held up on the heels of the tiring MAJESTIC JEWEL until a point leaving the 400m when he was forced to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running. Apprentice Wallace stated that as it was his opinion that the racing surface away from the fence was superior and it had been his intention to shift off the fence and improve into the race with BILLUM, which was racing to his outside. However BILLUM was unable to obtain clear running and this forced him to remain at the heels of MAJESTIC JEWEL. The explanation was noted.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAJESTIC JEWEL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 6: Counties Welcomes Caloundra 13 Feb Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Duke Of Danes 2nd – Plazsni 3rd – Desertsunprincess 4th – Gold Budda

The start of this race was delayed when COUNT IGLESIA, which had to be resaddled at the barriers, kicked its rider, C. Munce. As a result of this, C. Munce was unable to fulfil his engagement on COUNT IGLESIA and the gelding was declared a late scratching at 3.19 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on COUNT IGLESIA were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

WINDSONG (A. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

GOLDEN SPIRES (A. Spinks) was hampered on jumping away when DESERTSUNPRINCESS (J. Kropp) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

GOLD BUDDA (J. Taylor) was slowly into stride.

Leaving the 900m, FINAGLE (J. Byrne) overraced for a short distance before being restrained from the heels of DESERTSUNPRINCESS. GOLD BUDDA, which was following, was also steadied.

M. Gray, rider of INTO THE DARK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that at a point near the 800m he shifted in when not sufficiently clear of GOLDEN SPIRES (A. Spinks), resulting in that mare being tightened for room between INTO THE DARK and GOLD BUDDA (J. Taylor), which was racing on the rails. As a result of being checked GOLDEN SPIRES lost considerable ground. M. Gray was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings to commence at midnight, 20 February and to expire at midnight, 5 March.

GOLD BUDDA (J. Taylor) was held up for clear running from the 600m until leaving the 500m.

Leaving the 400m, GOLDEN SPIRES was forced to race in restricted room between WINDSONG (A. Taylor) and INTO THE DARK (M. Gray), which shifted in.

ABBAJAZZ (W. D'Avila) and MOUNT FREEDOM (J. Wood) raced wide throughout the race.

Race 7: Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 4 H'cap - 1300m
1st –Golden Cash 2nd – Tasty Tidbit 3rd – Sheza Hero 4th – Bossie Boy

KINGS ARTIST (M. Wood) and BOSSIE BOY (S. Galloway) were slow to begin.

Near the 500m, BOSSIE BOY (S. Galloway) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by BLACK DAKOTA (D. Browne), which laid in at that point and continued to lay in until the early stages of the straight.

DIAMONDSAUCASH (K. Ashton), IT'S WUNDERBAR (J. Kropp) and BLACK DAKOTA raced wide throughout.

Race 8:Tensens Class 2 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Rapid Leica Jacko 2nd – Vipera Gold 3rd – Smart ‘N’ Crafty 4th – Fantastic Carat

SHERBROOKE (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.

SARGASSO (J. Byrne), which overraced in the early stages, improved onto the heels of TYPHOON FURY (D. Browne) leaving the 900m and had to be steadied.

SARGASSO and FANTASTIC CARAT (W. D'Avila) were held up rounding the home turn.

LAVENDI (B. Richardson) and ALICE COUPEZ (A. Spinks) travelled wide without cover for the majority of the event.
