McKenzie, rider of the 3rd placegetter, ASTATUS, against BELL’S EXPRESS (J. Morris) being declared 2nd. After viewing the relevant films over the final stages, stewards were satisfied that no objection should be lodged and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. Stewards however issued a reprimand against jockey E. Wilkinson, rider of the winner, FOREST WAY, for failing to stop riding his mount when it shifted out under pressure.
DESTINY’S ANGEL (L. Tarrant) and HITMAN HARRY (P. Homes) were both slow to begin.

ENCLOSURE (A. Allen) was slow to begin.
Stewards inquired into the handling of handling GIVE IT BERRIES. Of particular concern was the fast pace which the mare set when leading. Apprentice Jeffries explained that she had been instructed to take up a forward position and therefore rode vigorously during the early stages, and when passing the 1500m elected to place further pressure on GIVE IT BERRIES in order to cross CRAIGLEA RELOAD (K. Yoshida) to assume the lead. Apprentice Jeffries stated she attempted to restrain the mare after passing the 1400m, however GIVE IT BERRIES took charge and she was unable to ease the mare’s pace until passing the 800m. Trainer Mr M. Spackman confirmed the instructions, adding that this was the mare’s first start over 1600m. After considering the evidence tendered, stewards advised apprentice Jeffries that, in their opinion, she had erred in riding vigorously to cross CRAIGLEA RELOAD. This caused GIVE IT BERRIES to race keenly. Miss Jeffries was further advised that stewards would monitor her rides in the future as this ride fell below an acceptable standard.
ENCLOSURE bled during the event. Connection were advised that ENCLOSURE would be barred for 3 months from racing.
