SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Sunshine Coast 17.11.13: Stablehand Aiden St Vincent was found guilty of a charge under AR. 175(q) (improper conduct) in that while he was attending to CHASTELAIN, which competed in Race 7 at this meeting he kicked that particular horse in the vicinity of the underbelly. Mr St Vincent was fined the sum of $200, which was suspended under LR. 22(f) for 6 months on condition that he does not breach the same or any rule of a similar nature within the period of the suspension of penalty.
Race 1: ACCESS INSULATION CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M
TORCELLO (C. Schmidt) and EAST VILLAGE (L. Tarrant) bumped on jumping away.
Near the 1000m SERIOUSLY READY (J. Orman) shifted in, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.
NARCISSUS (M. Carson) raced wide throughout.
P. Holmes (OUTBACK BIFF) was reminded of his obligation to ensure he rides his mounts out to the end of the race.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective.
Race 2: STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS BM80 H’CAP – 1400M
The start of this race was delayed when TO THE NORTH (L. Tarrant), which kicked out in the barriers and became cast, was removed from the barriers and inspected by the veterinary surgeon. Acting on veterinary advice, stewards ordered that TO THE NORTH be declared a late scratching at 5.36 pm. Following this, HEARTFELT QUEST (M. Carson), which was drawn inside TO THE NORTH, reared and got both forelegs over the partition for a short time. HEARTFELT QUEST was removed from the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race. ROCK HOME LATE (C. Schmidt) also reared in the barriers and got its off foreleg over the partition, making contact with ZIPPITY JET (R. Johnston-Bell). ZIPPITY JET also underwent a veterinary inspection and was passed suitable to race. ROCK HOME LATE was also inspected by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 5.40 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer B. Herne will be advised that the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race. MASSURI (A. Butler), which was drawn in an adjoining barrier, was also removed from the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race. Trainer B. Currie’s representatives was advised that TO THE NORTH must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to it being permitted to race again.
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TO THE NORTH be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 5.36 pm:
27 cents in the dollar for the Win #5
27 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
25 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ROCK HOME LATE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed between 5.36 pm and 5.40 pm:
13 cents in the dollar for the Win #5
13 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10
Following the event, trainer C. Williamson lodged a complaint as to why his representative ZIPPITY JET was allowed to start when he was of the opinion that the saddle was broken prior to the start. After taking evidence from Mr Williamson, starter M. Henderson and apprentice Johnston-Bell, it was established that apprentice Johnston-Bell was questioned on a number of occasions by Mr Henderson as to whether the saddle was suitable to ride in, and on all occasions apprentice Johnston-Bell indicated that he was satisfied to ride ZIPPITY JET.
WRITER (A. Kitson) began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground, and then commenced to race ungenerously in the early stages.
Race 3: ACCESS INSULATION CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed as a result of the delay caused to the start of Race 2.
KAHAANI (S. Fawke) and LEICA SNIPPET (J. Orman) were slow to begin.
HE DON’T CARE (L. Tarrant) jumped awkwardly.
FLYING RIDDLE (A. Merritt) shifted in on jumping and made contact with ISIS FLYER.
To allow apprentice A. Hearn (HAVEN QUEEN) to be represented by his master, an inquiry into an incident near the 1000m where FLYING RIDDLE, DANDY FINE (P. Homes) and HAZY HUNTER (A. Butler) were all hampered was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
After leaving the 1000m HAVEN QUEEN shifted out and was checked away from the heels of REVACIOUS (B. El-Issa). HAVEN QUEEN then continued to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 400m FLYING RIDDLE was tightened for room between HAVEN QUEEN and REVACIOUS, which shifted out slightly.
Approaching the 300m DANDY FINE (P. Homes) had to shift out abruptly away from the heels of the tiring ISIS FLYER (E. Wilkinson) and in doing so made contact with HAZY HUNTER (A. Butler), which shifted out, resulting in FLYING RIDDLE having to be checked between HAZY HUNTER and HAVEN QUEEN.
Race 4: CSR BRADFORD INSULATION CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M
Ms G. Harrison, the trainer of AUDACIOUS AL, was reminded of her obligations to present her horses in order when parading.
AUDACIOUS AL (K. Wharton) and TENDERLOIN (T. Bell) were slow to begin.
Near the 1300m STAND’N’STARE (S. Apthorpe) had to be steadied from the heels of QUEEN’S LEGEND (P. Homes).
T. Bell (TENDERLOIN) was fined $100 for failing to weigh in 5th.
T. Bell will be interviewed regarding his whip use in the home straight.
Race 5: ACCESS INSULATION MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
FAIRWAY CLOSE (L. Tarrant) lost ground on jumping away when tightened for room between GENERIS HEART (G. Goold) and PRIMUS MAXIMUS (B. Stewart), both of which shifted ground.
WHITE HUMOUR (M. Hellyer) and LULIN (J. Kokotajlo) made heavy contact on jumping away, resulting in J. Kokotajlo almost being dislodged.
Approaching the 200m ELEGANTLY (P. Homes) had to be checked when tightened for room between GENERIS HEART and PHIRARNY (S. Fawke) which after being taken out shifted away from PRIMUS MAXIMUS, which was taken out by WHITE HUMOUR, which had a tendency to hang out. M. Hellyer (WHITE HUMOUR) was advised that he should have straightened his mount sooner than he had done on this occasion.
Leaving the 200m FAIRWAY CLOSE was inconvenienced between REAL DYNAMITE (R. Ride) and LULIN, which shifted out slightly.
Apprentice G. Goold was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on GENERIS HEART. He stated that he was advised to have the gelding wherever comfortable in the run, and when it began awkwardly he elected to ease the gelding back in the field in an attempt to gain cover as he did not wish to race wide. He added that the gelding overraced in the middle stages and forced to race wide approaching the home turn. His explanation was noted.
A. Taylor was questioned regarding her riding tactics on ALIBOTA. She stated that she had no specific instructions and when the filly began well, she allowed it to stride forward and lead.
M. Hellyer reported on returning to scale that WHITE HUMOUR wanted to lay out for the majority of the event.
Apprentice R. Ride (REAL DYNAMITE), who was dislodged after the race, was examined by the Club doctor and passed fit to take her ride on KARGIL in Race 6.
LULIN (J. Kokotajlo) lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 6: STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M
As J. Morris was indisposed, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of HARKAWAY GIRL.
SEXTANT (L. Tarrant) was slow into stride.
Leaving the 1200m MS BA BELLA (E. Wilkinson) commenced to overrace for some distance.
HARKAWAY GIRL (M. Hellyer) raced wide in the early stages.
Near the 900m SEXTANT improved on to the heels of ROCK HUNTER (B. Stewart) and had to be steadied.
Apprentice A. Butler reported at scale that LAST BET felt short in its action. A post-race veterinary examination of LAST BET revealed no abnormalities.
Race 7: ACCESS INSULATION MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M
SOUTHERN THREAT (T. Harrison) and TOTAL DESTRUCTION (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
K. Wharton was questioned regarding his riding of VAINACIOUS in the early stages of the straight, particularly his reasons for looking at runners to his inside near the 350m. K. Wharton stated that he looked to his inside to establish where SOUTHERN THREAT, which he believed was his main danger, was racing as he was of the opinion that at that stage he had the leaders covered and then approaching the 200m he placed his mount under full pressure Whilst stewards noted his explanation, he was nonetheless advised to ride his mounts in a manner such as not to leave himself open to questioning.
TOTAL DESTRUCTION was examined by the veterinary surgeon post-race and found to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. It was also noted that the gelding had lost its off fore plate in running. Stewards will interview trainer T. Thomas in coming days to see if there is anything seriously amiss with the gelding.
Apprentice I. French (ISAPHAN) was reprimanded for using his whip in an excessive manner.
