Race 1: East Coast Shades Maiden Plate – 1200m
HE’S OUR MATE – Began awkwardly, losing ground. Then continued to race awkwardly in the early stages.
BOLD HAVEN – Bumped on jumping away.
MOROCCAN ROSE – Tightened for room between runners and steadied nearing the 200m. Rider R. Fradd reported the horse commenced to weaken shortly after entering the home straight and, in his opinion, did not run out a strong 1200m.
JUST CALL ME LOUIE – Steadied from heels near the 700m. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
AUBE – Improved onto heels leaving the 700m and shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight, jockey Carson was reprimanded for allowing AUBE to shift back in, causing interference to another runner.
MISS ALATI – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Centrepoint Apartments Caloundra Maiden H'cap – 1600m
QABLA – Presented with bandages. Trainer E. Singh was reprimanded for failing to make application to add this piece of gear.
Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by Rider M. McGuren, rider of the 3rd placegetter, against BE ALLE BELLE being declared 2nd on the grounds of interference near the 200m. After reviewing the available evidence stewards were of the view that whilst BE ALLE BELLE shifted out under pressure resulting in interference to MASTER CAT, they could not be satisfied that the interference suffered by MASTER CAT resulted a reversal of the placings given the 1½ length margin between the 2 runners. The protest was subsequently dismissed and correct weight given on the numbers semaphored.
BE ALLE BELLE – Rider A. Allen, rider of the 2nd placegetter, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure, resulting in a tightening to MASTER CAT, which was taken out on to the hind quarters of CASINO BLUE. This caused the rider of MASTER CAT to take hold of his mount, resulting in that horse losing ground near the 200m. A. Allen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 September, and up to including 26 September.
RAVE ON – Slow to begin.
RISE OF THE PHOENIX – Slow to begin. Overraced during the early and middle stages.
PODIUM PRINCESS – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner.
SECRET OF THE ROCK – Bumped at the start.
SHALAKO – Shifted out passing the 1000m after improving onto heels and as a result raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the race. Stewards questioned N. Summers regarding the tactics adopted during the middle stages of the race which resulted in her being placed 3 wide leaving the 1000m. Apprentice Summers stated that she was reluctant to overly restrain the gelding as she had been instructed to not fight the horse if it commenced to overrace. She therefore allowed it to shift 3 wide after improving onto the heels of INTERIM APPROVAL and was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Stewards advised Miss Summers that, in their opinion, she had erred in failing to make a greater effort to remain in a trailing position behind INTERIM APPROVAL at that stage of the race.
EL JADIDA – Shifted out near the 400m in an attempt to gain clear running and in doing so had to be steadied from heels.
QABLE – Raced wide for the majority of the race without cover.
INTERIM APPROVAL – C. Van Der Werf pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift in under pressure near the 250m, resulting in EYEFORIT being tightened for room onto the hind quarters of SHALAKO, which resulted in EYEFORIT having to be checked and lose ground at this stage. C. Van Der Werf was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 September and to expire at midnight, 24 September.
Race 3: Curran Group Class 3 Plate – 1800m
MADHURIMA - Considerably slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which tailed off, found it to have shifted its off hind plate, resulting in the horse being lame in that leg. Trainer J. Stanton was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next race start.
DAYUAN – Steadied when placed in restricted room at a point near the 1600m.
KAISER FRANZ – Held up rounding the home turn.
WANT FOR NOTHING – Shifted out after entering the home straight to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with another runner and became unbalanced.
HEREAFTER – Became unbalanced after receiving contact from another runner shortly after entering the home straight.
LEMAITRE – Stewards questioned trainer Mr M. Bailey and rider N. Summers regarding the tactics adopted on that gelding. Of concern to stewards was the fast pace set by Miss Summers during the first 1200m. Mr Bailey indicated he had instructed Miss Summers to ride the horse in a forward position and lead if possible as the horse races best when not overly restrained in the middle stages. Apprentice Summers advised stewards that she was endeavouring to fulfil these instructions and was content that the horse whilst setting a fast tempo was travelling comfortably. Stewards after viewing the patrol footage and reviewing the sectional times of the event were of the view that Miss Summers had erred in not attempting to steady her horse when racing between the 1200m and 600m and, in their opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. Given Miss Summers status as a provincial apprentice, advised Miss Summers that it was their opinion that, in the circumstances, she would be required to attend the Rider Review Panel as this ride, along with her ride in the previous event, fell below a standard expected of a provincial apprentice.
Race 4: Golden Beach Tavern QTIS 3yo

MURPHY’S PROSPECT – Slow to begin.
ESTEVEZ – Overraced in the early stages and shifted out at a point near the 1000m before racing wide throughout.
CUT UP – Held up rounding the home turn.
OVER THE CHOICE – Steadied near the 200m when tightened for room.
YAHUSHA – After being bumped near the 1000m and forced wider on the track, the rider elected to push forward and attempt to secure a position closer to the fence, however was obliged to race 3 wide outside the lead with cover. Raced wide throughout.
NEUSCHWANSTEIN – Had to be steadied near the 900m from heels when the pace slackened.
Race 7: Rumba Beach Resort Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
SAN CLEMENTE – A veterinary examination prior to the start cleared the horse to take its place in the field.
WARRIOR SKY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
PALACE WHISPERS – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned trainer T. Hall regarding the tactics adopted on PALACE WHISPERS, which was in contrast to the horse’s established racing pattern. He indicated he had advised jockey R. McMahon that he should not bustle the horse in the early stages and allow the horse to travel comfortably. He gave no specific instructions as to the positioning of the horse. Jockey McMahon confirmed this and added that horse’s performances had proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer T. Hall was advised by stewards that in similar circumstances he would be required to advise stewards of any instructions which may result in a change of tactics. Mr Hall was reprimanded. Mr Hall advised stewards it was now his intention to step the mare up over 1600m and was advised by stewards should he anticipate a change of tactics, they would be expect to be notified of this change.
Race 8: Sunshine Coast Falcons Class 5 H'cap – 1400m
Connections advised that NEW DAY RISING was stepping up in distance and would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit.
A pre-race veterinary examination of DARK ANGEL, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, cleared the mare to start.
