GENERAL
As R. McMahon was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards' Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Yalumba Wines Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus QTIS 2yo Fillies Maiden Plate – 1000m
SURF SKI – Declared a late scratching at 7.35 am due to the downgrading of the track.
FIGLIA VELOSE – Declared a late scratching at 9.45 am due to the downgrading of the track..
LUCKY SHOW GIRL – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied. Then held up rounding the home turn and when racing greenly in the home straight was obliged to alter course to secure clear running near the 100m. Lost its near hind plate in running.
KELTIC GODDESS – Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 600m, inconveniencing runners to its outside. After leaving the 600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
RUSTIC MISS – Forced wider near the 600m.
LADY CASUARINA – Forced wider near the 600m. When laying in in the home straight, rider M. McGillivray attempted to swap his whip over into his right hand and in doing so dropped the near-side rein near the 300m and was therefore not able to fully test his mount until approaching the 100m.
Race 2: Parklands Tavern Maiden H'cap – 1000m
VAIN GODDESS – Declared a late scratching at 7.35 am due to the downgrading of the track.
DELASUN - Due to having a long break from racing, the gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field.
TYPHOON HENNY – Inconvenienced shortly after the start by another runner and lost ground. Shifted in near the 700m and had to be restrained to avoid heels.
RED CABOOSE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions and straighten.
WAR HAMMER – Raced greenly in the home straight.
Race 3: Meredith Kitchens Class 4 H'cap – 1000m
MAFIA PRINCESS – As M. Hellyer was to be overweight, A. Hearn was substituted as the rider of that horse. M. Hellyer was reprimanded.
TISANI TOMSO – Slow to begin, and then hampered shortly after the start, losing ground. Rider L. Tarrant lost his whip passing the 100m.
CEE THE DRAGON – Steadied near the 500m when placed in restricted room.
ONE IN ONE OUT – When asked to comment on the performance, rider D. Browne stated that the horse hung out throughout the event, however travelled well into the home straight, but when asked for an effort did not respond as anticipated and was somewhat disappointing in the run to the line.
Race 4: Sunshine Coast Food Services Maiden H'cap – 1400m
ONEMORE FOR NAARA - Declared a late scratching at 7.35 am due to the downgrading of the track.
CHANGLY - Declared a late scratching at 7.35 am due to the downgrading of the track.
KOBI CREEK – Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer M. Palmer for the late declaration of rider for the horse.
LAKOTA SIOUX – The start was delayed when the horse proved difficult to load. A warning was placed on the horse regarding its pre-race manners. Raced greenly and leaving the 800m improved onto heels and hung out. The horse then continued to race greenly and hang out and was unable to be fully tested in the home straight, resulting in the rider being obliged to stop riding on a number of occasions. Trainer Mr B. Wakefield was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners.
ROCKDAY – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 1000m and overraced on heels until leaving the 800m.
LEO’S HERO – Slow to begin.
ROSE OF WOORIM – Improved onto heels near the 500m and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Following this event, D. Browne reported after travelling very strongly into the race at the home turn, his mount did not respond to his riding as anticipated and proved somewhat disappointing in the home straight.
ROAD TO THE TOP – Raced wide throughout before tailing off and finishing a distant last.
Race 5: Andrew Porter Memorial BM 75 H'cap – 1600m
DAYUAN - Trainer A. Mead was reprimanded for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.
PHANTOM WHISPER – Slow to begin.
BRILLANCONI – Improved onto the heels of the weakening Dayuan and had to be checked, losing significant ground and shifted wider on the track.
DAYUAN – Raced wide throughout and commenced to weaken from the 700m and finish a distant last.
CALL ME RUSTY – Had some difficult obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 6: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Class 1 H'cap – 1800m
The start of this race was significantly delayed when Contravention had to have both front plates reattached prior to the start.
CONTRAVENTION – When being restrained passing the 1400m raced ungenerously and became awkward at heels.
FAIRYTALE BELLE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
EUGENIE – Rider B. Grylls reported at no stage did her mount handle the rain affected conditions and weakened over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Grylls was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 1600m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Contravention, which caused that horse to be taken in on to the rightful running of Deep Pockets, which resulted in that horse being tightened onto the hind quarters of Armoured and causing rider A. Fancourt to take hold of Deep Pockets and lose its position. B. Grylls was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 March and to expire at midnight, 8 April.
Race 7: Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 2 H'cap – 1400m
Trainer L. Richardson was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for Outback Carlson by the prescribed time.
FORWARD SPEED – Slow to begin.
UNBOWED – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start. When asked to explain the poor performance last start at Balina, trainer Mr P. Duff indicated that the horse was taken wider near the 1000m and raced very wide from that point onwards and this caused the horse to have an extremely hard race and as it was its first start back from a spell did not finish the race off well.
LIGHTNING DRIFT – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 300m.
GUMDALE BOY – Weakened over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
INDIANA HEART – Rider A. Allen was fined $100 for striking the horse forward of the shoulder and for using the whip when out of contention.
Race 8: Hot 91.1 Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
Jockey T. Bell was fined $100 for being dually engaged on Silent Duke and Action Button. L. Tarrant was substituted as the rider of Silent Duke.
LUNAR VOYAGE - Declared a late scratching at 7.45 am due to the downgrading of the track.
SEEBOURN - Declared a late scratching at 7.45 am due to the downgrading of the track.
FRONT FUN – Slow to begin.
ACTION BUTTON – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey T. Bell stated the only excuse he could offer was the horse did not handle today’s prevailing track conditions. Trainer M. Dunn will be interviewed regarding the filly’s performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
SILENT DUKE – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalance.
BOLD NAVIGATOR – Raced wide without cover throughout.
AEROSTAR – Stewards afforded trainer N. Doyle the opportunity to comment on the performance of the horse. He stated that the gelding did not appreciate the heavy track conditions today and as a result failed to run out the 1200m distance of today’s race.
