Race 1: CALOUNDRA CUP 16TH MAY 2015 BM75 H’CAP – 2200M
JOSHUA’S MIGHT – When questioned, L. Tarrant stated that at no stage in the event did his mount travel comfortably and was under pressure from the 800m, however he could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than that the gelding had lost its near fore plate. A swab sample was taken.
Race 2: HOT 91.1 LADIES OAKS DAY – 29TH MAY 2015 MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M
TRI PAL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
NEVER GIVE IN – Rider B. Stewart was reprimanded for shifting in near the 1300m when not sufficiently clear. Taken wider on the track by another runner near the 1200m.
SUPERIOR SUN – Had to be steadied near the 1300m to avoid the heels of NOOSA HEADS (T. Bell), which shifted in. T. Bell was reprimanded.
CAPTAIN KITTINGER – Rider dropped his whip after passing the 200m.
ROSS RIVER – Made contact with another runner near the 300m and became unbalanced.
HIDING – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly. Taken wider on the track by another runner near the 1200m.
HOLLYWOOD RAIN – Slow to begin. Shifted out to avoid heels near the 1300m. Made contact with another runner near the 300m and became unbalanced.
ASHULUPA – Jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.
CZEBRAY – Tightened for room when overracing near the 1300m and then continued to overrace until near the 900m.
DUKE’S GOLD – Tightened for room when overracing near the 1300m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
SAHARA GOLD – Overraced in the early stages. Checked off heels and blundered when runners to the inside shifted out near the 1200m.
SUMMER JEWEL – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Performed uncompetitively. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N. Larkin was advised that the horse’s nomination would be refused for TAB meetings until such time as the filly performs competitively at country meetings.
Race 3: COASTLINE BMW MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
CALL ME BILLY – Raced wide without cover.
DEEKS – Raced wide throughout.
ISSY COMMAND – Had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 1100m.
SAMMY SPARROW – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field from the wide alley. The horse was ridden accordingly.
GAYLEN – Fractious in the barriers, removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Raced wide without cover. Lost its off hind plate in running.
POETIC SAGA – Slow to begin.
SAYS ME – Had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 1100m. Had to be momentarily steadied from heels when overracing leaving the 900m.
MOSTLY LUCKY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
Race 4: BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M
DO NOT GO GENTLE – Improved on to heels and had to be steadied when the pace slackened near the 700m and continued to overrace until leaving the 600m.
THE FRIENDLYMAULER – Apprentice B. Derbyshire reported that her mount laid in under pressure in the home straight.
QUELLE LIAISON – Raced three wide without cover. After passing the 200m was struck across the face with the whip of another rider. When questioned regarding the horse’s poor performance, R. McMahon stated that after being caught three wide to the home turn, the horse failed to respond to his riding under pressure and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.
POCILLO – Raced wide without cover.
Race 5: BOQ MOOLOOLABA QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1000M
CELESTIAL DRAGON – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that CELESTIAL DRAGON raced greenly throughout the event.
CHOC MOUNTAIN – Had to be steadied to avoid heels when weakening near the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance, R. Wiggins said that when he was unable to muster sufficient speed to lead the event, the horse did not travel comfortably as in his opinion it performs best when able to obtain a position in the lead. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LADY DENMAN – Forced wider by another runner when entering the home straight.
SURPRISE RESULT – Reluctant to hold its position when racing tightly to the inside of other runners near the 550m.
Race 6: SKY RACING CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M
GLACIER EXPRESS, which was involved in an incident whilst being floated to the track, was a late scratching at 12.58 pm on veterinary advice.
BALAKLAVA – Rider dropped her whip approaching the 200m. Tightened for room and had to be checked over the concluding stages. Apprentice M. McGillivray, the rider of APEGASUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding for permitting his mount to shift out under heavy riding at that point of the race, resulting in BALAKLAVA being checked, and was suspended for 7 mtgs, to commence at midnight on Sunday 5 April and expire at midnight on Thursday 16 April 2015. Stewards questioned apprentice Eilbeck in relation to her riding after passing the 900m as she had obtained a position outside the lead one off the fence and after being crossed near the 800m then was positioned three wide outside the lead. She stated that she had allowed WEWONYA to cross near the 800m as she as had been advised that BALAKLAVA may overrace when being restrained and shifted wider anticipating WEWONYA continuing to cross to the fence. However when that gelding remained one off the fence she was caught three wide as HOTILLA had improved to her inside. She added that with hindsight and now having ridden the horse in a race, she would have steadied more than she did and remained in a one off position. Stewards advised her that she had erred on this occasion, however, given her instructions, were satisfied with the explanation.
CAVU – Bled both nostrils. Trainer T. Sears was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and before resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.
WEWONYA – G. Goold reported that it had not been his intention to lead, however when it became apparent in the early stages that he would not secure a position closer to the fence in a midfield position, he elected to ride forward to take up a position outside the lead.
CLASSIC ELEMENT – Raced wide without cover.
ENCHANTEE – Tightened for room at the start. J. Kokotajlo was cautioned regarding his whip above shoulder height.
Race 7: ACCESS INSULATION BM80 H’CAP – 1400M
Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to scratch GULLY COMMAND by the prescribed time.
KERADARI – Stewards questioned apprentice T. Wolfgram regarding his tactics from the 600m where he had opportunity to improve outside VOODOO BLUE MAGIC and then also raised concerns regarding his apparent lack of vigour after leaving the 400m. Apprentice Wolfgram indicated that he did not wish to be placed in a position where he would be forced wider rounding the home turn and therefore elected to stay behind VOODOO BLUE MAGIC as he felt the horse was travelling sufficiently to take him into the race. He added that in the home straight the horse had a tendency to lay in and this affected the way in which he rode the horse and also caused him to stop riding and swap the whip over to the right hand. He further added that over the concluding stages the horse was doing its best work and felt the horse would be suited to a step up to 1600m.
HLUDOWIG – Slow to begin.
VOODOO BLUE MAGIC – Underwent a veterinary examination after slipping in the wash bay and passed to take its place in the field.
Race 8: PARKLANDS TAVERN NOW OPEN CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
BASHAN – Stewards questioned rider J. Byrne regarding the performance and his tactics. He stated that due to interference occurring forward of him near the 800m and because of the steady pace being set in the event, he shifted wider on the track rather than steady from heels. He added that he was wide as a result of this, however the horse travelled well into the home straight and was doing its best work over the concluding stages and he was pleased with the overall performance.
ROCK HUNTER – Forced to race in restricted room between the 800m and the 600m.
SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin.
BARCELONA BOUND – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CHAIRMAN’S VOTE – Forced to race in restricted room between the 800m and the 600m.
CROCKETT’S MISTAKE – Overraced in the early stages before racing four wide without cover. Apprentice R. Williams was reprimanded for shifting in after passing the 800m, tightening runners to her inside. Stewards advised apprentice Williams that despite having been instructed to obtain cover, she would have been better served allowing the horse to stride forward after passing the 1000m when the horse was overracing badly.
FATHER SHADY – Slow to begin. Overraced during the early stages before racing wide.
EARHART – Raced three wide without cover.
