SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Mackay 14 May 2015: R. McMahon was fined $200 for failing to fulfil his engagements at this meeting.

Race 1: SUMMERVELD RACING STABLES H’CAP (BM95) – 1800M

EIGHT’S A PARTY – J. Byrne reported at scale that his mount was under pressure prior to the home turn and did not respond to his riding. Trainer D. Bell advised stewards that the horse had pleased him in the lead up to today’s event, however he was very disappointed with its run today. He added that he would monitor the horse’s post-race recovery and advise stewards should anything come to light in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.

BILLY AUCASH – Raced wide during the early stages. S. Payne reported that his mount laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

FAST ARROW – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. T. Harrison reported at scale that her mount was most disappointing and in her opinion may not have backed up from its start on 6 May. Trainer M. Mair agreed that the performance was disappointing and said that he would have blood tests carried out on the horse, the results of which he would report to stewards. He added that he would give consideration to sending the horse for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

MARKOUT – Raced wide during the early stages.

MISS HUSSON – Slow to begin.

COLOUR CHARGE – Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m and went to the line without being fully tested.

Race 2: PARKLANDS TAVERN H’CAP (F&M) – 1400M

LOVE SHUTTLE – Raced wide without cover.

HALLSIDE ROSE – Slow to begin, then overraced when being restrained passing the 1200m. S. Payne reported that after travelling well behind the lead, his mount was under pressure near the 400m and in his opinion was disappointing in the run to the line.

MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL – A. Taylor reported that her mount was unable to muster sufficient early speed to take up a more forward position due to the step back in distance of today’s event.

SHE’S MISS DEVINE – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

TINA MELINA – Slow to begin. Had to be checked when tightened for room leaving the 100m.

BOARD DIRECTOR – Had to be checked when tightened for room leaving the 200m.

RED HOT DREAM – Checked away from heels near the 600m and shifted out.

Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BRUCE MCLACHLAN MEMORIALCLASSIC-LISTED2YO – 1200M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Byrne, the rider of MR OPTIMISTIC, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against HANDFAST being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 1100m. After viewing the videos and taking evidence from all parties, it was established that leaving the 1100m HANDFAST did shift in, resulting in MR OPTIMISTIC having to be steadied, however, bearing in mind where the incident occurred and the margin separating both runners at the finish, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry T. Bell was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at that stage.

MR OPTIMISTIC – Had to be checked near the 800m.

TAILLEVENT – Overraced approaching the 1100m and shifted out abruptly, causing interference to other runners.

HANDFAST – Had to be checked approaching the 1100m.

RANI’S DYNASTY – Slow to begin.

Race 5: XXXX SUNSHINE COAST GUINEAS – GROUP 3 (3YO) – 1600M

MERION – Steadied off heels at the 700m and was then held up from that point until entering the home straight. Tightened for room near the 300m and had to be steadied.

WORTHY CAUSE – Shifted out and made heavy contact with another runner passing the 400m and became unbalanced. J. Stanley reported at scale that his mount raced a little fresh today and was positioned more forward than he had anticipated.

RHODIN DRIVE – Raced 4 wide without cover. Buffeted by another runner near the 400m.

SKYLIMIT – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

REDEEM CODE – Bumped by another runner near the 400m and became unbalanced.

SWIFT LADY – Obliged to alter course after passing the 100m to secure clear running.

ELUSIVE CATCH – Slow to begin.

Race 6: LINKED GROUP PLUMBING CALOUNDRA CUP – LISTED – 2400M

INDEX LINKED – Held up for clear running near the 600m.

TREMEC – Fractious in the barriers, removed, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. T. Bell reported at scale that on jumping he lost the use of his offside iron, which resulted in the horse being placed further back in the field than he had intended. He added that his mount was under pressure prior to the home turn and did not finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than that the horse had lost its near hind plate in running.

ESCADO – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward after passing the 1700m.

ONGOING VENTURE – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward after passing the 1700m. Tailed off and finished a distant last. M. Cahill reported at scale that his mount wanted to hang in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

KOBI CREEK – Raced wide without cover from the 1200m.

Race 7: HMR PROJECTS PTY LTD GLASSHOUSE H’CAP – LISTED – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed when PHELAN READY proved difficult to load and ABU BEN ADAM, which got its leg caught after kicking out in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon who advised that the horse had sustained an injury in the incident. Acting on that advice, stewards declared ABU BEN ADAM a late scratching at 4.05 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ABU BEN ADAM be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

1 cent in the dollar for the Win #2
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place #7
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #11

KEMPELLY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider R. Fradd was questioned at scale following the event as it was observed that there were specks of blood visible on his colours. R. Fradd indicated that the horse had a laceration to the poll. Following this information, stewards interviewed trainer K. Kemp and foreperson Mr A. Wallace to ascertain when the gelding had sustained the injury. As stewards were unable to identify how or when the injury had occurred, they noted their explanations and no action was taken.

TYPHOON RED – Raced wide without cover.

ALLEZ EAGLE – T. Bell reported that his mount travelled well throughout the event, however when asked for an effort did not respond and was very disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer T. Pike advised that the horse may not have been suited to the pattern of today’s racing and that the very fast tempo set in the early stages may have had an effect on the horse’s finishing effort. Mr Pike undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. A veterinary clearance for the horse will be required prior to its next start.

BLACK JET – Slow to begin.

BLACK CASH – R. McMahon was fined $200 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
