Race 1: SCTC 30th Anniversary Cup 25 July QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m

The start of this race was delayed when MORE THAN A ROSE shifted its off fore plate, requiring farrier attention.

BARBERANCE – Slow to begin.

MORE THAN A ROSE – Jockey R. McMahon was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of the filly. He indicated after being slow to begin the horse travelled well enough in the middle stages and improved rounding the home turn. He added he was obliged to manoeuvre away from heels of a weakening horse near the 300m and had some difficulty securing clear running shortly thereafter. He again had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 100m and was pleased with the filly’s overall performance. A swab sample was taken.

DAM WONDERFUL – Jumped away awkwardly.

EVERYDAY HERO – Jockey B. Pengelly reported that the gelding travelled well throughout the event until entering the home straight, and when asked for an effort proved disappointing and proved disappointing as it failed to respond as he would have liked. He added that, in his opinion, the horse may be coming to the end of its preparation.

SHADES OF PEARL – Steadied away from heels near the 150m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

IT’S A STICK UP – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

LA MASTER – A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which finished a distant last after weakening in the home straight, revealed lameness in the off foreleg.



Race 2: Blacklaw & Blake Enterprises Pty Ltd Maiden H'cap – 1000m

The start was delayed when KHALEEQ shifted its near fore plate, which required farrier attention.

REVALDOR – Began awkwardly bumping another runner. Raced greenly in the early stages and was restrained from heels and became awkward near the 700m.

TANNIC – Bumped at the start. Tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the 800m. Raced wide without cover.

GAZIMBER- Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace leaving the 700m and improved onto heels before shifting wider on the track, causing interference to runners to its outside. Tightened for room leaving the 500m and had to be restrained when disappointed for clear running.

KASCHUBA – Slow to begin.

KISSED BY DESTINY – Ridden forward and caught wide early before being restrained to the rear of the field to obtain cover. Inconvenienced by another runner near the 500m and had to be steadied from heels before having some difficulty obtaining clear runnering during the early stages of the home straight.

GALLIVANTING – Tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the 800m. Tightened for room near the 700m.

BUBBA BASSANO - Tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the 800m. Tightened for room near the 700m and obliged to steady, losing ground. Inconvenienced by another runner near the 500m.

TIBURON – Apprentice G. Goold was reprimanded for shifting in near the 800m causing a tightening to other runners. Raced wide without cover.


Race 3: Workplace Central QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m

DON’T RUSH ME – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout and improved onto heels passing the 600m, having to be steadied.

DAKOTA ROCKS – Jumped away awkwardly and had to be steadied from heels. Raced in restricted room near the 900m and had to be steadied.

DANGLISSA GIRL – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SOL WITNESS – Raced wide throughout.

OPINIONATED – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 200m. Jockey R. McMahon reported the horse felt short in its action on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination confirmed the filly was short in its action but not lame.



Race 4: Costa Constructions Class 4 H'cap – 1000m

ONE IN ONE OUT – Reared as the start was effected, losing considerable ground, and then raced at heels and had to be steadied for some distance near the 700m. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and had to be steadied from heels.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Slow to begin.

YOUNG FUN – Had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight, and near the 150m rider L. Dittman was obliged to stop riding for a short distance.

NADHIMA – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.


Race 5: Steve Venn (Century 21 Coastal) F&M Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1200m

CHORUSES – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

KALA’S BELLE – Slow to begin.

SCARLET JANE – Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened leaving the 900m and continued to be checked from heels until leaving the 600m. Jockey N. Day commented that the poor performance could be attributed to the racing manners of the horse, and indicated that connections would consider sending the filly for a spell.

LILY MY GIRL – Raced 3 wide without cover.



Race 6: Coastal Flooring XTRA Maiden H'cap – 1400m

CASINO GOLD – Jumped away awkwardly and was further hampered shortly after the start, losing ground. Had to be steadied approaching the 200m when inconvenienced by another runner.

I’M O’REILLY – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide.

LUCRETIA – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner.

ASHULUPA – Tightened for room at the start.

STONECAST - Had to be steadied from heels near the 1100m and overraced for a short distance. Raced wide without cover.

GOOD INTENTIONS – Held up rounding the home turn.

HIDRIFTER – Raced 4 wide without cover.


Race 7: K. Smith & Son Jewellers Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1800m

HOT SAGA – Slow to begin.

DANSOLEI – Slow to begin. Shifted wider near the 600m to improve and then approaching the 500m was forced wider again and made the home turn wide.

TIPS ‘N’ TALES – Slow to begin.

TAIL AND ALL – Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to a position outside the leader leaving the 1300m.

ROSEY JOAN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the race.

BERNIE OF BABYLON – L. Dittman was asked to comment on the disappointing performance. He indicated that he had been instructed to improve from the 600m and was able to do so, improving inside the leader approaching the 400m, however from that point the gelding commenced to weaken and, in his view, was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed cheek ulcers on both sides of its mouth. A swab sample was taken.


Race 8: Office National Caloundra CG&E Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1200m

HOW CAN I HELP – Blinkers were fitted to the gelding at the barriers when it was confirmed that it had raced in that gear at its previous start in Rockhampton. Overraced in the early stages.

NOT WITHOUT SIN – As jockey G. Geran was stood down by the doctor after riding in Race 2, P. Romeo was substituted as the rider of the horse.

PIGGY BANK – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied near the 150m when tightened for room, and then was unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the event. Jockey Matthew Palmer, rider of a TAHOE CITY, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear near the 150m. .

CANNY BE FAMOUS – Began awkwardly, losing ground.

GROOMED FOR GLORY – Had to be steadied approaching the 500m when attempting to secure clear running.

NOT WITHOUT SIN – Raced wide throughout.

TAHOE CITY – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey M. Palmer indicated he had been instructed to lead however the gelding did not have sufficient pace to do so, and after being steadied, travelled comfortably throughout the race, however only finished the race off fairly.


Race 9: Cellar Maintenance Australia Class 3 H'cap – 1400m

GAME THIEF – Shifted out to improve approaching the 600m and made heavy contact with another runner. Apprentice L. Dittman was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated he pressured the horse from the 600m which was earlier than he wanted due to the leader gaining a significant advantage. He felt that approaching the home turn the horse was travelling well, however proved disappointing in the straight and changed stride on a number of occasions after passing the 300m.

O’GRADY – Bumped heavily approaching the 600m.

UNBOWED: Stewards questioned apprentice Fancourt regarding her riding of the gelding in today’s event, which was not the horse’s established racing pattern. She indicated that her instructions were to ride the gelding in a negative fashion in the early stages and attempt to have it settle back in the field, however her mount raced keenly and she allowed it to improve to the lead. She added that she attempted to restrain her mount however the horse continued to race keenly and she was satisfied that the gelding was travelling well in front. Stewards noted the explanation.
