Race 1: Sky Racing Maiden Plate – 1200m

APOLLO HOPE – After the saddle shifted backwards shortly after the start when the horse began awkwardly, the colt then raced awkwardly for a short distance.

SYAMANTAKA MANI – Began awkwardly and was severely hampered soon after the start. Raced greenly throughout the event. Rider B. Pengelly indicated that the horse may benefit with the addition of blinkers.

REVALDOR – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner before overracing in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 2: Yalumba Maiden Plate – 1200m

DANEBERRY ROAD – Slow to begin and raced very greenly throughout the event. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners as it had a tendency to overrace throughout and was quite untractable and laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HEROIC ROCK – Slow to begin. Apprentice L. Tarrant reported to stewards that the horse felt sore in the near hind leg following the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of inspection. Stewards advised Trainer R. Simpson that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next race start.

KING OF THE CASTLE – Jockey J. Lloyd reported his saddle shifted forward near the 1000m, placing him at a disadvantage. Raced 3 wide without cover.

BEER ‘N’ BARMAID – Raced wide throughout.

DREAMWARD BOUND – Following this race jockey D. Griffin became ill and was stood down from his engagement in Race 5. Jockey Griffin was advised he would be required to provide a medical clearance. Jockey J. Byrne replaced D. Griffin.

Race 3: Local News Maiden H'cap – 1600m

ZARIA’S FIRE – Slow to begin. Held up momentarily passing the 400m and again when approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.

DESERT GAMBLER – Raced wide until approaching the 900m.

AKACHETA LEE – Commenced to weaken in the home straight and laid in under pressure after passing the 300m and when the rider corrected his mount it shifted out abruptly, causing interference to runners to his outside. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A. Allen indicted that the horse travelled well until the 600m but was then under pressure, weakening badly over the final 400m. Trainer R. Heathcote indicated that the disappointing performance may have been as a result of the horse having its first start over 1600m on a soft racing surface, however he was at a loss to explain the performance. He indicated he would contact stewards in the coming days should anything come to light.

LORD CHAMBERLAIN - Inconvenienced and forced wider passing the 300m.

MCGILL - Inconvenienced and forced wider passing the 300m.

CASINO GOLD - Inconvenienced and forced wider passing the 300m.

RAH RAH BOY – Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Maiden H'cap – 1600m

SOLDIER OF WAR – Slow to begin. When asked to explained the disappointing performance, jockey T. Bell stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however when asked to quicken from the 600m, the horse was immediately under pressure and was disappointing in his view. Stable representative Glen Thompson indicated in light of today’s performance the horse would now be sent for a spell.

SUNCANSING – Slow to begin.

BIAPTIC – Steadied when tightened for room near the 1100m.

Race 5: BOQ Mooloolaba Class 5 H'cap – 1600m

RED CENT – Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Slow to begin and as a result settled worse than midfield.

UTMOST FAITH – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to take up a leading position near the 900m. Forced wider at the 800m.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE - Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to take up a leading position near the 900m.

COMACINA – Shifted out to avoid heels when the pace slackened near the 800m and then raced 3 wide from that point onwards.

WILL’S CHOICE – Jockey M. Hellyer reported the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened badly and finished a distant last, revealed it to be in a very distressed state and suffering from a poor post race recovery. Connections were advised that WILL’S CHOICE must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start and undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which to be reported to stewards. The trainer’s representative indicated that in light of today’s performance the horse would either be sent for a significant spell or be retired.

Race 6: Kendrick Racing Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1000m

EXPLORE THE WORLD - Apprentice L. Londregan was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance.

SILENT DUKE – Apprentice J. Orman reported that the horse travelled comfortably until placed under pressure approaching the 400m and from that point failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

AD MAIORA SEMPER – Jockey R. Fradd reported that the horse weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

PATAPINDA – When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance, trainer P. Duncan indicated that at the horse’s must recent start, in his view, the gelding was ridden quite poorly and when overracing was settled wide on the track. He felt that this had a significant effect on the performance. Mr Duncan added that at the start prior to this the horse did not appreciate the firm racing surface at Dalby on 9 August and he felt that this may explain the improvement on the horse. He was also of the view that the addition of blinkers today was beneficial.

Race 7: Access Insulation C, G & Entires Class 3 – 1200m

PARTY SPIN – Slow to begin.

TRUBIA – Overraced in the middle stages when the pace slackened.

NARSONS DUKE – After being unable to muster any early speed was caught 3 wide without cover.

SUIT – Stewards questioned jockey J. Stanley regarding the tactics adopted between the 700m and until rounding the home turn as to his reasons for improving wider on the track. He indicated at that point of the race the horse was travelling strongly and he felt there was opportunity for him to improve into the event without having to overly pressure the horse. Jockey Stanley was of the view he was able to improve quickly and was confident of the horse’s chances when rounding the home turn, however he explained that shortly thereafter his mount failed to respond to his riding and, in his view, may not have appreciated racing in a tongue-tie. He recommended to connections to remove this piece of gear. Connections indicated that they would have the horse scoped and would contact the stewards with the results. Stewards noted the explanation and took no further action.
