MAJOR BO – Raced wide throughout. Stewards questioned jockey B. Pengelly regarding the tactics adopted as to why he remained in a 3 wide position, when It appeared he had opportunity to improve forward and take up a position closer to the fence, however he elected to restrain and remain in a 3 wide position. He explained that near the 1200m he improved outside LITTLE MISS MONACO and at this point the rider of that mare appeared to allow his mount to stride more forward. He was of the view that the rider would allow the horse to cross the horse to the inside and take up the lead, which would enable MAJOR BO to follow that horse across and assume a position one off the fence outside the lead. He indicated however that when he made this decision the rider of LITTLE MISS MONACO then appeared to steady and as the field was now approaching the 1000m, he felt asking the horse to produce a second effort to would be detrimental to the horse’s chances. Stewards, after viewing the patrol footage, accepted jockey Pengelly’s explanation.
