ChallenBookmakers Supervisor – W. FlynnStarter – R. Hanson Stewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski GENERAL As apprentice H. English was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. As G. Colless and apprentice S. Race 1: FIREFLY EDUCATION CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M DON’T RUSH ME – Jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened approaching the 1300m and was then permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1000m. STEERING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. STAINER – Overraced when the pace slackened near the 1300m, improved on to heels, had to be steadied and shifted wider and as a result raced three wide without cover for the remainder of the event. MANDAROSSO – Bled from both nostrils, first time. Ineligible to race for 3 months and before resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward. Race 2: GLENVIEW PAR 3 GOLD CLUB MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M HAY LIFE – Had to be steadied from heels rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the horse’s above market expectation performance, trainer B. Dowden indicated that as he has only had the horse for three runs prior to today, he has been satisfied with the way in which the horse has been performing, given that he believes the horse is not suited to racing over 1200m. He advised that he felt that a step up in distance would be appreciated and he also advised that the horse would improve further when stepped up to 1600m. He indicated that he was not surprised by the forward showing today. KING DRABADORE – Overraced in the early stages before being steadied from heels and shifting wider on the track and as a result raced wide from the 800m. WAITING GAME – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Hung out from the 600m until entering the home straight. D’LEEAJET – Slow to begin. KITTY – R. Wiggins reported that it had not been his intention to lead, however when the horse began well, he pressed his mount in the early stages and as a result the horse led comfortably. UP THE TEMPO – Steadied near the 1000m when placed in restricted room. Stewards asked J. Lloyd to comment on the horse’s performance. He indicated that it had been his intention to position the horse in the forward half of the field, however after being crowded for room in the early stages, he was obliged to steady and then was following a horse which was steadied further at a point near the 700m, which resulted in him being in the second half of the field. He then indicated that from approaching the 500m he pressured the filly and she did not quicken, however when afforded clear running after being held up rounding the home turn, the horse found the line well and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. He indicated that the horse would be much better suited to racing over 1600m with a slower tempo in the early stages where the horse can obtain a position closer to the lead. VENETIAN BEAUTY – Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room near the 900m. G. Colless, the rider of MYSTYKO, was reprimanded and advised to provide runners more clearance when shifting ground. CHIEF JOSEPH – Raced wide throughout. Race 5: FENCEPAC BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1600M SECRET HARMONY – Connections advised that although the horse has been ridden forward in the past, the instructions today will be to attempt to secure cover. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. FUSINA – J. Byrne reported that the horse laid out in the early and middle stages approaching the 800m and did not let down when pressured in the home straight and was disappointing. Trainer R.
