Race 1: XXXX Gold Ratings Band 0-70 H’cap 1200m

PATRONIZING – Held up for clear running from the 450m until passing the 200m.  Stewards inquired into the riding of the gelding and questioned jockey D. Browne in relation to his decision to relinquish the lead in the early stages.  Jockey Browne stated that he had been given no specific instructions other than to say that the horse has in the past had a tendency to race with its head in the air when restrained.  He indicated that after going a short distance it became apparent that SIGNPOST  was being ridden vigorously and the rider appeared to want to lead. He therefore steadied and was comfortable with the position he obtained behind the lead as he had not wished to pressure the horse in the early stages and have it become keen and overrace. He indicated that he was content with the way the gelding travelled in the middle stages, however as WORTHY HERO remained tight to his outside he was unable to secure clear running until leaving the 200m.   Stewards also questioned trainer Mr S. Kendrick, who confirmed  the instructions and indicated that he was content with the  position jockey Browne had obtained in the middle stages and satisfied with the decision to steady during the early stages.  Stewards indicated to jockey Browne they would have the betting department analyse the betting on the event however took no further action at this time.

WORTHY HERO – Jockey A. Taylor was fined $100 for returning to scale overweight.  Stewards questioned trainer J. Wehlow regarding the seemingly improved performance.  He indicated  that the horse at its most recent start finished last after being significantly disadvantaged during the first half of the event as the rider lost an iron out of the barriers and was unable to regain that iron until passing the 800m.

The start of this race was delayed when GIVEN WINGS required farrier attention after losing a near fore plate during the preliminary.

I GOT A TURBO – Underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start and cleared to take its place in the field.  Hung out from rounding the turn and laid out under pressure in the straight.

BIG GREEN PONY – Obliged to alter course to secure clear running when disappointed for a run near the 300m.

GIVEN WINGS – Raced wide without cover.

ATTITUDINAL MISS – Forced wider  near the 1300m  before being steadied to take up a trailing position closer to the rail.

Race 5: Sunshine Toyota Maiden H’cap – 1400m

WAITING GAME – Declared a late scratching at 8.15 am due to no rider for the horse being available.

TICKETS TO RIDE – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EXCITED DREAM – Slow to begin.

CENTENARIO – Slow to begin.

STATE OF TEXAS – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: XXXX Summer Bright Ratings Band 0-58 H’cap – 1400m

BALINESE BOY – Jockey L. Londregan reported that his mount did not handle the rain affected track conditions.

FELIX – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FAST TRICK – When the pace slackened passing the 900m was forced wider on the track until approaching the 700m.  When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice A. Sewell indicated that after passing the 900m the gelding commenced to overrace and refused to settle and also had a tendency to lay out. He added that these factors, along with the horse failing to run out a strong 1400m, affected the overall performance. Trainer S. Kendrick agreed with the comments of apprentice Sewell and advised that the horse would now be sent for a short break and would be placed in races over shorter distances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LAKOTA SIOUX – Raced wide without cover.
