Lacy reported that her mount raced greenly throughout the event. MUSTOLA GOLD – Apprentice A. Fancourt reported that her mount overraced in the middle stages. CHASE THE WIND – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. AZARENKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey D. Griffin reported that the horse held its breath throughout the event. Race 2: Spire Law Class 3 H’cap – 1000m BIG GREEN PONY – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. NATIONAL TRAIL – Slow to begin. Raced wide. CHOOSE A SAGA – Jockey G. Colless reported that his mount was under pressure throughout the event. Race 3: Thompson McNichol Lawyers Maiden H’cap – 1600m HESEZSO – Declared a late scratching at 10.45 am on veterinary advice after the horse was found to have a high temperature. On return to scale a protest was lodged by the connections of the 2nd placegetter, ABBEY DAZZLER, against MIA MAGIC being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, it was established that near the 400m MERE MAGIC was shifted wider to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with ABBEY DAZZLER, causing that horse to be buffeted and become unbalanced. Furthermore MERE MAGIC shifted out under pressure near the 200m and made contact with ABBEY DAZZLER and also the whip of Nathan Day struck that horse over the head at this point. Stewards were therefore satisfied that the ground lost in these 2 incidents was sufficient to revers the short head margin, and the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings altered to read: No. 8 – Abbey Dazzler – No. 6 – Mia Magic - No. 1 – Beers At Sunrise – No. 4 – Day Of The Fox DAY OF THE FOX – Slow to begin. Hung out from the 800m. ZASTYLE – Slow to begin. ENDLESS HOPE - Stewards interviewed jockey J. Orman regarding his riding of the filly and its performance. He stated that it had been his intention to ride the horse in a forward position and if possible lead, however his mount was unable to muster early speed and this resulted in him having to position 3 wide throughout. He added he attempted to ride forward however the filly did not quicken at any stage of the race, and was under pressure from the 600m after having laid in throughout. Stable representative Mr Chris Meagher advised steward that ENDLESS HOPE would now be sent for a spell in light of today’s performance. Race 4: SV Partners Class 2 H’cap – 1200m OUTBACK STORM – Declared a late scratching at 2.11 pm after arriving at the barriers it had shifted the near fore plate and upon inspection was found to have stood on the toe clip, causing the horse to be lame. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to refunded with the following deductions applicable 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets on the winner Zip To The Moon5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place gets on the winner Zip To The Moon4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets on 2nd placegetter Cool SequenceStarting prices subject to deduction KAPGUN – Blundered on jumping away. DON’T DOUBT MARLEY – Hampered by KAPGUN on jumping away and had to be steadied and lost ground. Jockey M. Cahill was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated that, in his opinion the overall performance was disappointing and that he had expected to settle at the tail of the field as the mare has a history of being slow to begin. He indicated this was the case after suffering interference on jumping. He added that he had considered improving to a position midfield in an attempt to trail ZIP TO THE MOON, however as he had been instructed by trainer Mr D. Vandyke to ensure that the horse had clear running in the event he did not wish to improve to the inside of runners at that point. Jockey Cahill stated he pressured his mount from the 500m and whilst the horse finished the race off fairly he was nevertheless disappointed. He also indicated that, in his view, the mare would appreciate starting over a similar distance next start however in a race which has a more genuine tempo in the middle stages. PUNISHING – Jockey J. Orman advised that his mount, which performed disappointingly, travelled well until the home turn, however when asked for an effort weakened badly and it was his opinion that the horse would appreciate a softer racing surface. Trainer L. Birchley advised that he would notify stewards of any abnormality that came to light in the coming days which may have had a bearing on today’s performance. Race 5: JPG Design & Print Maiden Plate – 1200m MAKING SHADOWS – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Orman was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated that from the wide alley he was content to position the horse at the tail of the field and he also added that his mount was slow to begin. It was his opinion the horse raced greenly throughout and he was obliged to niggle the gelding during the middle stages in order to hold a position trailing SPANISH GARDEN. Jockey Orman indicated his mount was under full pressure from the 600m and whilst the gelding laid in under pressure in the home straight, found the line strongly and would benefit from a step up in distance. MUCHAS CORONAS – Slow to begin. CANUNGRA KID – Held up in the home straight after passing the 200m behind the weakening MACHONIC. ENDLESS DON – Laid in in the home straight. Raced wide without cover. BOLD HEART – Lost off fore plate in running. DEVIL’S RUM - Apprentice S. Lacy reported her mount laid out throughout the event and then blundered after passing the winning post. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start. DUNN GREAT – Jockey L. Tarrant reported his mound laid out rounding the home turn. CAPE DENISON – Jockey M. Hellyer reported it had not been his intention to ride his mount in a forward position, however after beginning well settled just off the pace. Race 6: Aquarius Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m REAL CUTE – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the identification papers for the horse. Overraced in the middle stages. ROCKY SUPREME – Apprentice S. Lacy reported her mount laid out over the concluding stages. Race 7: Savills Class 5 H’cap – 1600m KINGTANTES – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more positively and take up a forward position in the first 2 or 3. After being slow to begin was ridden hard in the early stages to take up a forward position. TOPENDING – Blundered on a number of occasions after passing the 600m. Apprentice S. Lacy reported that after the pace was only steady in the middle stages, when the field quickened after passing the 600m her horse was left flatfooted. ENDLESS PUZZLE – Lost its off fore plate in running. Race 8: Moaic Property Group Class 1 H’cap – 1400mADHERE – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be forward in the first half of the field as it overraced and settled at the tail last start. Ridden accordingly, however overraced in the lead during the middle stages. CHEERS ROSSCO – Slow to begin. TONY BALONEY – Jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground. Inconvenienced near the 600m. Stewards questioned jockey D. Browne regarding the early stages of the race. He indicated that despite his urgings the horse couldn’t muster speed and he was obliged to pressure his mount for the majority of the event. He also added that the horse laid in significantly under pressure in the straight, placing him at a disadvantage from the 300m onwards. TEHOPOLY – Steadied from heels near the 600m before shifting wider to improve and in doing so inconvenienced another runner.
